It's not first single material, just like Trouble wasn't. Had this been released second, it would've done well. She needed something in your face like Complicated, and that song was Daydream. Now it's not even included in her album.

I wonder if this is a case where Avril's music sounded fresh and exciting two years ago, but now after a string of hits by Avril, as well as other simliar artists such as Michelle Branch and such, maybe the light-rock/pop sound doesn't sound so fresh anymore. It maybe seems kind of ordinary now. That's maybe why radio has turned back to the Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera/Jessica Simpson style of pop.
I still think "Don't Tell Me" is a good song, though.

Its not as horrible as I originally thought, but its by far not first single material. Should have been filler. I have a feeling they expected it not to do that well...just because of how they are treating it.I have not seen immense press and didnt the video just come out? Maybe they were expecting the responce to be lukewarm. Hearing the song, I dont know how they could expect otherwise...

I havent heard this song at all, so i cant say whether i think its first-single material or not.... but it does seem there's a new trend where all the big recent acts that seemed to have guarenteed success arent necessarily guarenteed anything anymore, Pop radio is the most diverse and unpredictable its been in years judging by a quick glance of the charts.

Yes Yes Yes!!! I honestly dont know what they were trying to prove with this release. It sounds like the same exact thing all over again and the album doesn't come out for months. This was completely un-necessary. I also have a feeling that her album is going to fall right through the cracks as well because its Let Go Part II. I can't say I feel sorry for her. She is one of the most unknowledgeable "singers" (and I use the term LOOSELY) and there is NOTHING special about her at all. I hope this album spells the end for her because there is no real need for someone so plain and boring in the industry.

I don't particularly like Avril either, but the reason for that is cuz she talks so much trash about other artists and consistently ends up sounding like a jealous brat. She's always trying to show people how really original and cutting edge she really is, but, sorry Avril! You're a frumpy looking teenager with mediocre singing and songwriting skills and in desperate need of some sun.

Even if it flops, Avril will always be remembered for her record-breaking debut... Oops, I just remember that the record it broke was for most Grammy losses ever.

I'm really starting to get pissed off she's not releasing " Daydream." I could see her flopping with " Don't Tell Me" and it seems it would be a shame to know her career could have been saved.

You guys are so hilarious... I remember with Jewel's "Intuition"... the gains dropped a bit and everyone was already calling it a flop.
That song eventually made the Top 10 and I think Don't Tell Me will as well. It's done well on very little "hype" so far... and by hype I mean Avril didn't kiss Madonna, get married for 50 hours, show her tit at the superbowl or anything like that... it's just purely anticipation for the music.
I don't think she's got much to worry about. I'm not even an Avril fan at all... but I think she'll do well.

Well the bullet is down a lot now. . . I love Don't Tell Me, but her record company really screwed up this time cause it's a terrible first single choice.

Me too, I don't know what she was thinking! How stupid could you possibly be to not put potentially your 2nd biggest hit ever on the album? (I don't think anything will ever out beat "Complicated")
That's a good point actually, I forgot about that, didn't lose it's bullet too? I sure hope Avril can resurge and at least make the top 10!

For all those lamenting the fact that "Daydream" won't be on the album... the song might still be included on a soundtrack at some point (Avril put either 2 or 3 unreleased songs on soundtracks after her first album), and it could even be a single at some point. So it's not totally done just because it's not on the album.

Maybe I'm the only one who's not crazy about "Daydream". It has nothing over "Don't Tell Me" beyond a catchy chorus. Both have bad lyrics and bland verses. "Daydream" sounds like a post-sellout Liz Phair throw-away to me. I still think they have something up their sleeve for the second single.
Maybe Avril is screwed now that her sugardaddy LA Reid has left to go to Def Jam.

I think the catchy chorus made it better than Dont Tell Me. Dont Tell me-horrible and bland and average Daydream-a little bland, but with the catchiest chorus I have heard in a long time
I also think they have to have something up their sleeves for the second single.

I love the verse of "Daydream"! It's very 90's, I actually see Alanis singing it. The only part I don't like about "Daydream" is the "I try to be sensitive" part, because she does a lot of stuff that sounds like that. "Daydream" has got to be the most infectious song she has ever made.

The "Don't Tell Me" video is very standard, but Avril does a lot of dangerous stuff like smashing a cup (better than Jennifer Love Hewitt in "Can I Go Now?"), punching a mirror, and crossing the street without looking for traffic.

I'm really liking the song now, but I think its chorus, while catchy, is not memorable enough. A little hard to sing along to and remember the lyrics. It certainly doesn't look like a #1 hit anymore, even if it does pull ahead into the Top 10.

I think it's her best video, but that's not saying too much. None of her videos have been too great.

Like someone said here earlier on, this song may do the same thing as Jewel's song. She is gaining again and up to no 18 on Mediabase.
I don't think the video is that good and the song isn't that good either but it is catchy. When people can buy the single it will go up on Billboard too.
I guess the songs which aren't going to be singles are better than the songs which are going to be singles just like Let Go.

Well the song is currently only 5 spins away from the peak spin total of "Losing Grip", so it should at least pass that.

I don't understand how this song made the Top 10. "Losing Grip" was a much better song and it only got as high as Top 20. Maybe it's lead-single hype?

Maybe its just a case of payola for an awful choice of 1st single? They have a lot riding on Avrils "comeback" and with Pink having a successful album like "misubderstood" and having a comeback flop like "try this" they dont want the same for Avril. Can you imagine??? I really believe people have lost interest in Avril, she was a short term fad. The rebelious girls who flocked to Avril when they didnt want to be BRitney Spears anymore have moved on from Avril and found a new obsession...or maybe its cool to like Britney again, who knows. But Avril doesnt seem to have much hype around her. it is as if no1 but her "hard core" fans really care and its sad cause this is only her second album and she barely a mainstream artist anymore. By her 3rd album they will be saying "Avril who?"

They are really making Avril do an enormous amount of promotion for this album. That is a sign that they don't want this album to flop.
A lot is depending on the second single. If that song doesn't become a hit then it feels like the album can be a flop even if it sold much the first weeks of its release.
Avril is really good at doing rock songs and she deserves to have success but the more poppier songs that she is releasing as singles might not get people to see that.
Some fans may have moved on or even back to Britney.
Avril is the woman who is rebelious and does what she wants. She showed that on TRL yesterday.
