I find it very interesting that some stations play number one songs more than 100 times and others only about 60 times. Why is that? Do the stations which play number 1 only 60 times air Lovelines at night or do they just have more variety in the music? My local station played Yeah by usher 89 times during the week. Pitiful. MORE VARIETY! THAT'S WHAT MOST LISTENERS WANT AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE IT BUT THEY DON'T!

The stations that spin their power songs with low turnaround are usually more recurrent- and gold-heavy than stations with 100+ spin totals. Specialty shows don't really make much of a dent. In fact, songs that are heard on a specialty show counts as airplay on affiliate stations.

Syndicated airplay could have the opposite effect of what 3970 said. Playing Carson's Most Requested five times a week with presumably "Yeah!" on most or all of the countdowns could give "Yeah!" five spins in five hours (one hour a day) whereas it may get 2 to 3 spins in a random five hour nonsydicated period on the same stations.
