Our local chr/pop station has a new spot where they claim that they play "more music than so," the competitor. But the sad thing is, they just play the same ten songs much more often than the other stations do. It is literally limited to about ten to fifteen songs these days. They also claim that they play "ALL of Today's best music" I've heard some amazing new music played often on on their competitor which the other station wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. No explanation why from the deejays. Simply, "request something else, we don't have that song" And requests-that's another problem. Our local station has a request line and deejays encourage listeners to call in their fave songs. If thirty thousand screaming girls requested Ben Jelen's song Come On, they would not play it. The deejay has said "We can't play it because we want to see if it will do well first" Well, wouldn't it do well if thirty thousand screaming girls requested it and they played it? Isn't that how a song gets to be heard? Or do I have that all wrong? Forgive me for rambling I am confused about how CHR/pop stations operate.

Radio hasn't played requests since the 90's. Sad, but true. If you want to request something get an XM radio.

Our local chr/pop station has a new spot where they claim that they play "more music than so," the competitor.... They also claim that they play "ALL of Today's best music" 1. When pop stations talk about playing more music than their competitor or playing ALL of today's best music, they're usually just referring to the fact that they play a few rock/Hot AC songs which their Rhythmic competitor will not play. 2. About 10,000 screaming girls requesting Ben Jelen's "Come On," I think stations don't want to get sucked into this downward spiral where they end up playing more and more music for teen girls, which as a listening demographic, does not bode well for advertizing dollars.

I like my pop stations promos. They say "if you listen to (station) you can't hear this: (song), if you listen to (station) you can't hear this (song). If you listen to Kiss 95.7, you can't miss this..." then they play the next song.
They also have a newer one where they say "if you listen to (station) you can hear this: (song), if you listen to (station) you can hear this (song). But there's only one one place where you can hear both."

One thing I don't get is when a station says "(insert city)'s #1 hit music station", when they're the only hit music station in the area.

One thing I can't stand is the way my local CHR/POP station (WHTZ) touts its commercial-free hours in promos airing right before a commercial break.

Another one I don't get is "today's best music". I hear this on CHR and hot AC stations. But exactly what is today's best music?

Here's another one. WSSR-FM, Star 96.7, in Joliet, IL (southwest suburbs of Chicago), has the slogan, "The best of the 80s, 90s, and today." Problem is, they play a lot of 70s stuff as well.

Not only that, but it gives the false impression that they play 50 minutes continuously.

(Cox Radio) stations that play music has the slogan '50 minute music hours'. I noticed that when I heard Birmingham Cox stations saying that. I thought it was just an Atlanta Cox thing, but I guess it's a nationwide directive from the higher-ups.
