Cherie- I'm Ready is one of the worst songs to hit the charts in a very long time. It sounds like a commerical for Depends or Women's Tampons.

Darn "The Reason," looks like it is going to make #1. *sigh* I'm not really looking forward to that. >:(

what's with the huge drop in impressions today? ??? If the CHR/Pop audience impressions drop is across the board then perhaps what hapenned is that Mediabase used the latest Arbritron ratings (winter book) to recalibrated the a.i. per spin per station per time period. If the ratings, in general, for CHR/Pop are lower then the last measure they used then a.i. would drop across the board.

I wondered that myself. I figured a change in the reporting panel was the prime culprit. After checking, it looks like the panel is down to 124 stations (it was 128 when I last checked a couple months back). Who did we lose? It's been 124 stations for weeks. XHTO El Paso to CHR-Rhythmic, KBFM McAllen-Brownsville-Harlingen to CHR-Rhythmic, KQKQ Wichita to Hot AC, and WNHT Fort Wayne to CHR-Rhythmic are the most recent losses. The first three of those had good ratings. The radio station ratings still call XHTO CHR-Pop. KBFM is the only one of those with good audience per spin.

That Cherie song belongs on the opening credits of a sitcom, not the radio.

Cherie sounds EXACTLY like Celine Dion. But her song needs a MUCH stronger chorus. She should fizzle soon enough. Remember Maria? (Not Mena)
No, didn't think so.....

Cherie sounds EXACTLY like Celine Dion. Wow I don't see the resemblance in the voices. And I don't think that I'm Ready is bad for radio whatsoever. And for the record, many "sitcom" or "commercial" songs hit it big.

The AC station here plays Cherie a bit. The first time I heard it I thought it was a commercial for vaginal herpes.

Wow... who would wanna buy that? ;) No one. That's why they made such a bad song to advertise it.

CHR-Pop seemed to have a good or okay Winter 2004 book, and I wouldn't expect Mediabase to have Winter 2004 changes go into effect yet. Maybe the lag time for the ratings used by Mediabase is so long they only started to just now use the Fall book, which was a bad one for CHR/Pop. Or maybe they use a rolling average. Does anyone know the precise methadology?

That Maria Mena song is funny, LOL It seems more like a novelty act type thing than a real song. The top ten is so boring. Hoobastank's song is awful. The rest is just as bad. Did anyone else expect "Hey Mama" to reach this high? I thought it would do even worse than "Shut Up". Liz Phair only at +109 This song is so much better than its position.

I still can't believe Avril's bullet is as high as it is now. I can't remember if it ever been so high. 261...

The Reason is #1....by TWO spins :o yay, at last a song that deserves to be #1. I've really gotten into this song these past few days. I can see why it's so popular. Might this be the song that will end up being #1 for the year? It is a rock/alternative track, and those are the strongest contenders for snagging the #1 spot at year-end countdowns. We have yet to see.

It is a rock/alternative track, and those are the strongest contenders for snagging the #1 spot at year-end countdowns. No kidding! It's been the trend for 6 straight years so far: 1998: Goo Goo Dolls - Iris 1999: Sugar Ray - Every Morning 2000: Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want 2001: Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment 2002: Nickelback - How You Remind Me 2003: 3 Doors Down - When I'm Gone Now that we're almost halfway through the chart year, the biggest rock/alt contender we've had has been "This Love". And it doesn't look very likely that it will be the year's top hit. "Here Without You" had it's chart run split between two years, so that's a big minus for that. "Someday" could be in the running, as it doesn't look like stations will be dropping it from recurrent rotation any time soon. Could "The Reason" pick up the baton? Or will we, at long last, have a "pure pop" or rhythmic/urban leaning tune on top for the year? Guess we'll have to see if any other rock/alt tracks catch fire in the second half of the year.

I loathe it too. Not as much as that Kevin Lyttle song though I'll never get over what a piece of trash that song is.

I think both Outkast songs have a fair shot. "The Reason" probably came along a bit too late, but it still has a small chance.

Jessica Simpson has a better chance at #1 for 2004 than Outkast.
YAY HOOBA!!!
Hanson has broken the top 50, but with the current trends, it could take them a month to crack the top 40, if at all.

it has to be one of the most bland and boring songs I've ever heard. certainly would explain why radio loves it so much!

Was it #1 according to R&R or just according to Dees?), but that is where it would end. (Topping in 1996 was "Missing".) Otherwise, it's not just rock/alt track, but it's also rock/alt group track. (It needed to be said)

Britney up one place to no 22. She is still going strong and will probably some time next week be in the top 20.
Avril likes no 12. I wonder if she likes it as much as she did with no 14 because she sure stayed there for a long time.

Hey Mama and Don't Tell Me are slowly slowing down. Hey Mama may get into the top 10, but Avril's may get #11, and how many more of those do we need?
Roses finally growing with Hey Ya! and The Way You Move getting removed from the top 40.
I heard JoJo's song for the first time on American Top 40 jumping out of the box- hopefully it doesn't on American Top 40 and as for R&R I hope it falls back into the box soon- this very bad.
Someone said I'm Ready should be flying up the charts, it has hit around 200 spins- so that's a start!
poor Liz :'(
