I'm surprised stations still do stuff like this, especially CHR/POP stations. When I was younger, it was very common for stations of all formats to run weekend-long countdown specials over holidays. This was, of course, before variety on radio became virtually extinct.
It seems like they won't do them anymore because it means playing more than 75 different songs, and geez we can't be having that nonsense now, can we?!

Yeah, I remember when WLS in Chicago used to count down the Rock 500 on Memorial Day weekends. Then, since there were very few people who'd be able to stay up during the whole duration, they listed the songs, 50 at a time, on the backs of their weekly album and singles surveys, where they usually included lyrics to a song that was charting and a bio about the group who sang the featured song. Ah, those were the days. As far as I know, the last Rock 500 they did was in 1986. That was the year there was a new number one song. In the three previous years, "Hey Jude" by the Beatles held the top spot, with "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin in the runner-up position. In 1986, the two songs switched. Then, in 1987, the year the station switched to Adult Contemporary, the Rock 500 became a thing of the past. Too bad :(

Q102/Philly often does a flashback thing for 3-day weekends like this. Not sure if it's happening this year. It makes for some great radio though, hearing dance and hip-hop that hasn't been on the radio for years.
