I noticed Chad Kroeger - Hero recently went gold. It seems to me that for the last three years, rock songs are dominating the pop gold chart on mediabase. This is so stupid.
Any sane person would know it's time for these non-rock songs to become gold:
Nelly/Country Grammar Nelly/Ride Wit Me Janet/All For You Kandi/Don't Think I'm Not Nelly/E.I. Eminem/Stan
And many more. How can you make that chad kroeger song from summer of 2002 gold but not something from fall 2001 (J.Lo - I'm Real, Hero by Enrique, Izzo, Livin It Up, U Got It Bad, fall 2000 or even summer 2000 gold? Like Blu Cantrell - Hit Em Up Style???? This has just become stupid! I'm sorry but Hit Em Style is 9 months, if not 10 months older than that stupid Jimmy Eat World song, The Middle. hmmm..... Oh look at that, Country Grammar is on the radio now oh but it's gonna be logged as a recurrent, not that golden title it deserves, I'm gonna go listen! peace!

Not to mention "I Knew I Loved You" and "Back Here" are still recurrent.

Does that kandi song really get THAT much recurrent play? It was hardly a smash... ???

It seems like "Complicated" should go gold eventually.

Excuse me if I'm asking a stupid question, but what does a song have to do to be moved from recurrent to gold status? Does it have to have a certain number of total spins at the format?

It's not like Gold is some magical threshold a song must reach to become a "classic". It only refers to the age of the song. Granted, there seems to be no real rule that is followed.
And "Hit 'Em Up Style" was from summer/fall 2001, not 2000.

if there is a rule, I'd love to know it. lol Madonna's Music and Don't Tell Me are both still recurrent, yet there are tracks after it that are now Golds. Are we sure it doesn't have to do with # of spins?
BTW- anyone know why Mediabase doesn't show the to-date totals for spins at pop radio anymore? When looking at the Song Analysis Menu, the to-date pop totals are severely lowere than they were a few weeks back (yet the to-date totals for AC and Hot AC haven't been altered).

yeah I know it's from 2001, I didn't mean to put those two sentences together lol.
The point isn't that by now all these songs from X year should be gold. It's the white trash rock music that seems to be going gold faster. Why are they tryin to hold the rappas down???? hmm...
Someone find me a rap gold from 2000! If "It's Going Down" by the X-Ecutioners is gold now, there's nooooooooooooooooo reason why Blu Cantrell isn't gold. If "She Hates Me" is gold, there's noooooooooo reason why I'm Real isn't gold. Oh and in response to Complicated going gold, I bet that will stay recurrent for at least 9 another months, most likely more. But if that song goes gold before I Need A Girl Pt. 1, there's defintely wrong.

I've also noticed that the total number of video channel plays for some older songs have been re-set to zero.
