After spending about three months as a Christmas only station, blink 102.7 in NYC changed to MIX 102.7. They sound like a Hot AC station that plays mainly older music. So far I've heard Jeffrey Osborne, STars on 45, Amber, Daniel Bedingfield, and The Calling.

They should just realize that all this tinkering won't work. They need to pick one format and stick with it.
If I were them, I would just give NYC the country station that it sorely lacks.

Mediabase lists them as Mainstream AC but I could see that changing.

Mediabase lists them as Mainstream AC but I could see that changing. Well they were considered Adult Contemporary before they went all-Christmas and even if they consider themselves Hot Adult Contemporary, Mediabase makes their own decision. All-Christmas stations were not put back on the panel immediately after Christmas. XHTO went to playing all rhythmic music and changed BDS panels but is still on the CHR-Pop panel. The radio station ratings which lag behind format changes never changed them from Hot Adult Contemporary to Adult Contemporary, and if they call them Hot Adult Contemporary now I don't know they will acknowledge them ever being Adult Contemporary. They play plenty of Hot Adult Contemporary than Adult Contemporary played also or isn't any less Adult Contemporary than other songs Adult Contemporary plays: ''Drift Away," "Big Yellow Taxi," "Unwell," "White Flag," "Calling All Angels," "It's My Life," "Standing Still," "Why Don't You & I," "The First Cut Is The Deepest," "A Thousand Miles," "Soak Up The Sun," "I'm Like A Bird," "Complicated," "The Game Of Love," "Wherever You Will Go," "Landslide," and "Superman (It's Not Easy)" Songs in the Top 20 not in WNEW's Top 30: "Forever And For Always" "Sunrise" "Look Through My Eyes" "I Can Only Imagine" "You Raise Me Up" "Have You Ever Been In Love" "Fallen" "Tiny Dancer" "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" "Peace (Where The Heart Is)" Their worst song for Adult Contemporary is "Lady Marmalade" This is a majority (playing 9 out of 20) of the songs and shows they are more Hot Adult Contemporary than Adult Contemporary. Their Top 30 has even less songs on the Hot Adult Contemporary Top 20 (6). They're not playing Adult Contemporary artists like Celine, Shania, Phil, and Rod Stewart featuring Cher. They're also not playing songs that charted on Hot Adult Contemporary and won't chart on Adult Contemporary like "Someday" and "So Far Away." For Train and Matchbox Twenty, they're playing the big hit like Adult Contemporary stations do, while Hot Adult Contemporary is playing the followups more ("Bright Lights" more than "Unwell" and "When I Look To The Sky" more than "Calling All Angels").

On radio-info they said this caused WLTW and WPLJ to use "mix" to describe themselves also and that it may hurt them if their listeners write down "Mix" which would have Arbitron credit it to WNEW instead. They said a person already listening to WLTW or WPLJ wouldn't make that mistake but a person new to the area might. WNEW has a low enough rating that even getting a 0.1 share of listeners to other stations credited to them would have a significant affect. They said radio stations tell a specific slogan that if written in a diary would be credited to them but that a "Mix" in WNEW's name would take precendence over a "mix" in a slogan of WLTW or WPLJ.

I'm honestly starting to think that everyone time I win something from that station, I cause it to go broke and change formats...
Back in May of 2002 (when it was WNEW) I was on the Ron & Fez show and won a portable DVD's player and a ton of other crap.
In May of 2003 (Blink) I won a trip to California to see the MTV Movie Awards
So now if I win again in May 2004, does this mean it will change formats again in January. I guess we'll see..

On radio-info they said www.mix1027.com is a Clear Channel station in Ohio. Somebody said Clear Channel should put something on that website directing people looking for WNEW to WLTW. I don't know if Clear Channel read that, but they did that. If anybody wants to influence radio stations, come to radio-info.

I haven't listened much to 102.7 since it flipped, but I have to say I'm disappointed they gave up the "Blink" monker...That was so unique, it really had a ring to it...There are a million "Mix" stations out there...Blink was new...
Oh, and I miss Ron and Fez!!...

This station is really boring. It's just a typical Hot AC of which we already have. Only this one throws in the occasional R&B song.

With WXRK flipping from Alternative to Active Rock, will this Infinity station flip to Jack?

It should switch to Alternative. Couldn't do any worse than it already is in ratings.

WNEW clearly has no sense of direction with all the tinkering of formats. I don't know how far back the dance genre goes to but the playlist can't be very big since they don't play any (or very few) currents.

It should switch to Alternative. Couldn't do any worse than it already is in ratings. This station is awful. It's a complete waste. What NYC really needs is an Alternative station. Not a *rock* station, but a REAL Alternative station. NYC has a huge Alt scene, as seen by how quickly Alt bands sell out large venues in the area. K-Rock's problem is that it now plays blue collar rock, and that's really not what floats in NYC, the hipster capital of the country. We don't want Southern screaming hillbilly rock, we need a station that cuts out all active artists and instead focues on artists like U2, The Killers, Coldplay, as well as classic 90s Alt bands like Green Day, the Chili Peppers, Weezer, Garbage, Foo Fighters etc. A station more likely to have Gorillaz in the Top 5 than Crossfade.

As much as I like the classic dance, a station like what you described really is EXACTLY what NYC needs.
