Jennifer Lopez has always been urban. Madonna never appeared desperate. She never was in a situation where she put out several rock albums and then when one flopped, she started remixing it with hip-hop producers to get it to sell. It doesn't seem desperate to me at all that Lenny did a remix... Jennifer Lopez has always been POP. She had 2 minor R&B radio hits... out of numerous singles. She was the desperate one getting the rapper of the moment Ja Rule to rap on an Urban remix of a song that was originally a pop song then going on to re-release her album and a remix album after that. If Lenny's a sell out, Madonna and J.lo are sell outs. Lenny had done work on Jay Z's album now its not ok for Jay Z to return the favor all of the sudden and I might add that Jay Z is on the original version of Storm..... ...just not buying that Lenny K is somehow selling out buy putting out an Urban remix to a pop song that already has some Urban qualities to begin with....

Jennifer has never been 1 format. she has always been a crossover artist. She had some urban produced songs on her first album, pop songs, latin songs. She was neve 1 thing or the other..........she has no real musical identity. She can just make some catchy songs.

But pop music basically is urban now. It's not a major feat to crossover from urban to pop anymore.

But pop music basically is urban now. It's not a major feat to crossover from urban to pop anymore. Very true but i wouldnt go so far as to say she was only an urban artist. When she came out in 99 with her 1st single, eventhough dark child produced it, it was very much pop but it had some urban qualities to it because Darkchild produced it. Feelin so Good was an urban track without a doubt. Waiting for tonight was pop though....so I dont think she can really be classified as one thing or the other. She definately isnt r&b so i wouldnt called her an Urban artist. For artists like Her and Janet who make music that appeal to all different formats I just call them crossover artists. The debate on it could go on forever so I think labeling them as crossover artists is the most politically correct way to put it.

J. Lo has Urban influences in her music, her sales were never in jeopardy, neither were Madonna's at the time. Lenny's last two album have been underwhelming to expectations, and his career has taken a blow. Virgin might not give him another chance or merely let his contract expire. When your sales are steady, you can experiment and collaborate more freely, when you're flailing, the record label wants you to go w/ what appears a sure formula.

So you are telling me that Erotica and Bedtime Stories were big hits and that J.lo was a HUGE hit(when I'm Real first came out).

Well they certainly weren't flops! Yes coming off of albums that sold in access of 10 million copies 2 million copies couldn't possibly be considered a flop. It doesn't matter if an album is a flop or not. I mean look at Vanilla Ice he was at the top and he was considered a sell out still. Selling Out is what knocks you off your pirch. It has never made a difference when the artist is already flopping. I still would not consider Lenny to be selling out because he wants to do a hip hop remix of his song especially considering he made hip hop remixes of his songs when his songs were hits.

You know the part where I said it was irrelevant.... if an album is a flop or not. I mean look at Vanilla Ice he was at the top and he was considered a sell out still. Vanilla Ice blatantly ripped off a Queen & David Bowie song for his hit "Ice Ice Baby" and in a sense mocked the Black culture to further his career, he has admitted to selling out and wearing what he wore, etc. for the money.
J. Lo was already huge then, the remixes to some of her songs furthered her career.
Of course it does, the record label wants to be that much more involved in every aspect of one's career when one's not selling well and costing their label money. Therefore they go with a path that they believe will bolster sales.

I've gotta say that I do agree with Adonis that Lenny isn't selling out. Remixes of his songs have been a shtick of his for awhile now. His album may not be doing all that well, but I don't think that's been a big surprise to anyone; his albums have never been red hot items, except for maybe the 5 album, which was a relatively big hit for him.

Just to further Adonis' reason on this. We don't really have to look for the remixes, when there are at least three songs on the "5" album ("Thinking Of You", "I Belong To You" and "If You Can't Say No") that dabbled with soulful/R&B sounds. And have you guys forgotten "Believe In Me", from "Lenny"? Oh, and remember "Heaven Help" from "Are You Gonna Go My Way", which was a take on 70's soul? Oh, and don't forget his cameo on the Jay-Z album from two years ago, his collabo with P. Diddy, Pharrell and Loon on the "BB2" soundtrack or his guest spot on N.E.R.D.'s last album.
Which kind of makes me pop the question: you guys knew all this, but still wanted to stir some kind of artificial controversy, didn't you? ;)

ENOUGH BUMPING ASKING FOR MP3'S!
If someone has one, they'll post it. This doesn't need to be bumped twice a day asking for an MP3.

LOL But it doesn't need to be bumped again and again and again. If I get one, I'll post it. Or if someone else has it, they will. I can't find an MP3 either.
