This is a Christmas classic. It was produced by Phil Spector. Easily my favorite Christmas song as far as the pre-80's collection of them goes.

hmmm... this song... or All I Want for Christmas Is You... It's tough. As one critic of this song said, "Darlene Love can summon snow in July." But I guess you could say that about Mariah seeing as how AIWFCIY got spins during summer. I love every year when Darlene Love goes on Letterman to sing this.

Everytime I hear this I think of the "Home Alone" movie....Wasn't this from that movie?

Everytime I hear this I think of the "Home Alone" movie....Wasn't this from that movie? Darlene's "All Alone On Christmas", a very similar sounding song, was in Home Alone 2.

Phil Spector wrote this with the Brill Building team of Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, who co-wrote a lot of the songs Spector and his girl groups made famous. Together, this trio wrote:
River Deep, Mountain High-Ike and Tina Be My Baby-Ronettes Crystals- Da Doo Run Run I Can Hear Music-Beach Boys/Ronettes Chapel of Love-Dixie Cups Not too Young to Get Married - Darlene Love (as lead for Bob B. Soxx and Blue Jeans) Baby, I Love You-Ronettes Then He Kissed Me-Crystals Wait 'Til My Bobby Gets Home-Darlene Love
On their own, without Spector, Greenwich/Barry wrote: Hanky Panky-Tommy James and the Shondels Do Wah Diddy Diddy-Manfred Mann
among others...
Just thought I'd give credit where it's due.

Hearing this song is, for me, what really makes it feel like the holiday season. Truly a classic.

not sure the obsession with the Mariah version when the original Darlene Love version is right there. from the great Phil Spector Christmas album A Christmas Gift for You which was released in 1963.

This song already has a thread.
I’m a huge fan of Mariah’s version but even I know the original is a classic and beautiful sang by Miss Love, who I’ve always loved.
There’s room for both. Even Darlene herself said her favorite cover of her song is MC’s. 💅

I’m obsessed with Mariah’s version because it’s an impeccable cover and I’m able to enjoy either because both offer something the other doesn’t. And since I’m such a lamb, I tend to prefer her version.

I was today years old when I learned that Cher sings backup on this ("Christmaaaaaassss") and now it's all I can hear.

Wow, a new peak already this year?! It should go higher before the end of this season. Nice. I wonder why it's doing better this year?

Darlene needs to stay away from Mariah with all the nasty comments she's made this year, including attacking Mariah on her motherhood. Fake ass bitch.

Why would Mariah duet with someone who totally disrespected her like that and never apologized? Darlene can kick rocks as far as I'm concerned.

Cher covered this for her new Christmas album in a duet with Darlene Love . as mention Cher sang background on the original version . if they were to push that as a single Darlene would pass Cher in being the oldest to chart at pop radio with her being 82 . it probably won't happen though. they performed it together last night in NY for the Christmas tree lighting.
