Yeah, it's pretty much normal for a certain group of holiday favorites to be played to death more so than others, but it seems to me that this year's reigning champ is not one that I typically hear that much.Β The song I'm referring to is The Carpenter's version of "There's No Place Like Home For The Holidays".Β I swear I've heard this song more times this year than Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby combined!Β Is it just me?
Oddly enough, my second place selection goes to Hall & Oates version of "Jingle Bell Rock".Β I don't ever recall a year where I heard that version more than the Bobby Helms original, so this is definitely a first.

Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song has been playing every other hour on my local all Christmas station.Β Great song, but every other hour?
Probably the second most played song is Johnny Mathis's It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.
But somewhat surprising to me - no Faith Hill's "Where Are You Christmas? so far this year!Β I know it's not a classic, but still...

I want Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer to go away. And the worst thing about that song is that it gets played on all kinds of stations - over and over again!

I've been hearing that Christmas Shoes song over and over.Β The one about the kid wanting to buy a pair of shoes for his mother before she dies.Β Β Nothing like a nice depressingΒ Christmas song.Β Β :'(Β

I wonder if it's a regional thing. The songs I mentioned upthread aren't even among the top 15 most played Christmas songs at AC, yet I hear them incessantly. Meanwhile, some songs in the top 15 I've hardly heard at all.

I'm really sick of hearing Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christma Is You," and I actually like the song (except when they seem to play it every 30 min or so).

I haven't seen anyone mention Wilson Philip's song that I've heard a thousand times, it's probably called "Hey Santa". It annoys me to no end.
The overload of christmas music is definitely not one of my favorite parts of the christmas season.

Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas is You" is getting played tons here this year but I'm not complaining about that one cause I like it. The most played song here is Kalan Porter's " Mary Did You Know" . Its not bad but the fangirles are going crazy over it so its making all the countdowns. At least its not Clay's version their playing. And speaking of Clay the station here has been playing about 5 of his songs here on a regular basis and it's driving me crazy. I've never heard such souless Christmas music before in my life

The same as every other year: "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee, with the Nat King Cole version of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" not too far behind.

I want Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer to go away. And the worst thing about that song is that it gets played on all kinds of stations - over and over again! I second that! The song was only funny the first umpteen times I heard it, but then it got so old. To make matters worse, back around 1985 or so, they re-recorded the song and it was even worse, especially when they yell and try to go back to singing. If you listen to that version (which, BTW, is the only version you hear anymore), you'll see what I'm talking about (the first instance is when they were talking about how they found her Christmas morning. Another one is how THEY SHOULD NEVER give a license to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves) Fortunately, I have the original version on 45.

I find most of the "humorous" Christmas songs they play on pop stations to be annoying.
The song I've heard most so far is "All I Want For Christmas Is You", but I also like the song so I don't mind.

To me his religious renditons are emotional and beautiful. I am tired of the Eurythmics "Winter Wonderland", Paul's "Wonderful Xmas Time", and Lennons" Happy Xmas (War is Over) and chesnuts from Andy Williams, Gene Autry, Burl Ives, played ad nauseum.

I totally agree about Clay's songs. Anyone who doesn't hear heart and soul in his singing these songs is just blocking it out for other reasons---as in, they don't like him. The man has a fabulous voice and ability to sing Christmas/religious music. And it is very moving to lots of people to hear him sing these songs. Don't really know how anyone could have more emotion when singing them. Maybe you need to download the mp3s of the concert versions.

I'd love to throw in one that just about any Canadian with a Standard Radio station would agree with...
O Holy Night or Silent Night, both by Take Three.
Now, Take Three is a Canadian group. One of their members just happens to be the daughter of Standard Radio head Gary Slaight. Because of this, any Standard station that plays Christmas music is forced to have Take Three in pretty major rotation, I'm talkin' like 21 spins a week (which is a LOT considering how much Christmas music there is to play when you only play 1 song an hour!)

I rather like John Lennon's Happy Xmas song, but I do get tired of hearing it every single hour. But at least it's not as bad as Melissa Etheridge's version. She butchered it, but good!

It's been 2 years since I posted it, and the most overplayed one is still Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad. I remember last year I had the AC station on as I celebrated Black Friday and I swear in the time I spent driving from place to place I hears that song at least 5 or 6 times.
