This song has been getting a lot of play on the Christmas-only stations in NYC. I really didn't care for it at first because it doesn't sound particularly seasonal so to speak, but that aside it really is a nice song!

That's interesting, because it isn't a seasonal song. I suppose you could say it's a New Years Song. It's a nice song though. He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Hope he is doing ok.

It also references Christmas Eve. I love it!

Annoying. The dude just whines in the whole song. Yes, it's a heartwarming tune if you want to say it. But something to listen to over and over again during the Christmas season - bleh!

This was not intended to be a Christmas song. But since he mentions Christmas Eve in the lyrics, someone decided that it was and it stuck. I do like the song, but I cringe when radio stations drag it out exclusively during the holiday season.

I really didn't care for it at first because it doesn't sound particularly seasonal so to speak, but that aside it really is a nice song! Like some have said, it wasn't a holiday release. I seem to remember that it became a hit a short time after the holiday season. It went through the usual hit-recurrent-gold cycle, and some years later it began to be treated as a seasonal oldie. It's a nice little tune but doesn't stand up to frequent play.

This made the Top 20 on the charts in early 1981. It's considered a New Years song.

^Actually, it made the Top Ten.
I love this song. It does sort of bring tears to my eyes at times, since I can only imagine how it must feel to get acquainted with an old flame, and feel lonely and empty as they parted ways again. The snow turning into rain signified a happy time that turns quite melancholy. Sort of hits home right now, since my girlfriend and I almost broke up recently, but yesterday, we patched things up.

WLIT still plays the song once in a while during its Holiday Lite Christmas music months.

I wonder if Christmas radio stations played it with mention of Dan Fogelberg's recent death...
