The theme song to The Grinch, one of the biggest movies in 2000. I love this song, probably one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time. A very endearing ballad.

I liked it a lot when it was out. Hot Mariah Carey written hit! Mariah originally intended to record it.

Should this be moved to the new forum "Holiday Releases", since it's a Christmas-themed tune and all?

It's kinda boring and Mariah would have sang it infinitely better.

Great Christmas song. I love hearing this one in the Christmas rotation. A Mariah version would be interesting to hear

I despise this song, and WHAT THE **** was she thinking wearing CRIMPED 80's hair in the video !? Tacky for such a class act. Michael New Orleans www.michaelduvic.comp.s. Can't wait for her new album!

It was the biggest movie in 2000. Only in the US. But sad to say, the world does not revolve around the US. It was the no. 6 movie of 2000 when all the countries in the world has been factored in. That is hardly the biggest movie of 2000.

I like this one a lot. Less so now than when it was first released, but it's still really good. I'd love for Faith to finally release the Christmas album that she's been talking about doing for years.

i was surprised this was never nominated for an oscar or golden globe. ofcourse mariah would've recieved the credit tragedy this was never sung by mariah (after all, she wrote it) - If I ever meet mariah, I am going to ask her about this song. She NEEDS to sing it.

^^^ Yes, she does need to sing it. It's one of her best lyrics ever.

Hi everyone,
Could someone refresh my memory and tell me the story behind this song and why Faith ended up doing it? And did Mariah ever record a version?
Thanks a mill!

Mariah was all set to record the song, but Tommy Motolla put a stop to it because the soundtrack for "The Grinch" was for another rival record company of Sony's. (I can't think of the label's name, maybe Universal?) There was nothing Mariah could do because she was under her Sony contract at the time, so the other label had Faith Hill do it. Even though she was disappointed she couldn't sing it herself, she was pleased with Faith Hill.

Well now that she is not under contact with Sony, she should do her version of the song. As long as her voice is healthy and strong, no raspy vocals. I have a feeling she did a demo to this song though, I don't know why my instincts tell me there is a rough cut of a Mariah version somewhere.

i like this song and i think faith does a really fine job with it....
but it really only pertains to the movie. it doesn't fit any other christmas feelings at all.

^^ Yeah, Sony has all of her master recordings. I do hope Mariah does her own version of this song, but it seems unlikely at this point.
