One of my favorite newer Christmas songs, and one that seems to get far too little air play or attention, is Kenny Rogers's "Pretty Little Baby Child."
It's on Kenny's album "The Gift," but for some reason iTunes does not have it for individual download. (I have it on cassette but would like to get a digital version to put on mix CDs, and to play on my laptop, etc.) I don't even think iTunes has that particular album for download.
The song was not written by Kenny. (I have the authorship credits somewhere.) It has a sort of caribbean/country flavor (how's that for a fusion!?) to it, and is very catchy.
The lyrics are:
Pretty little baby lyin' in a manger, He was starin' at the strangers Who'd come so many miles. They were told to follow the star up in the heavens Till it brought them to the stable Of the little baby child.
Is this the Kingdom of the high and mighty? Is this the ruler born here tonight? Should we lay our treasure here by his cradle? Tell me, are you the Saviour, Pretty Little Baby Child?
Chorus; Sometimes the greatest of miracles Comes from the smallest of things. We knew as we knelt there beside him We were looking in the eyes of a king And that his Tiny little fingers could bring us together Forever and ever, Pretty Little Baby Child.
Wonder of wonders there in the darkness! The light of the promise, How it shines in his eyes! Angels were singing the Hallelujah Chorus For the Savior before us, Pretty Little Baby Child.
Chorus
