British Soul prodigy Joss Stone is plotting the release of her follow up to The Soul Sessions, her debut EP. Her sophomore effort, Mind, Body & Soul, is due in September, and will feature collaborations with Betty Wright, Portishead's Beth Gibbons, Angie Stone and The Roots' ?uestlove, among others. As with The Soul Sessions, the new set was co-produced by S-Curve Records president Steve Greenberg, Wright and Michael Mangini.
"You Had Me" will serve as the album's first single, according to Billboard.com, and other song titles include "Right To Be Wrong," "Jet Lag," "Spoiled," "Security," "Don't Cha Wanna Ride" and "Less is More." Her Web site reports that she will appear on PBS' Austin City Limits, MTV's Hard Rock Live and Fuse's Sessions @ AOL in the fall.

I haven't been paying much attention to the topic. Is this new material original?

Aw crap it's only a clip? I was just getting into it...snapping my fingers, and then the song stopped and I was like WTF??
LOL...
it sounds really good from that clip...I bet I'm gonna love it
I never bought Soul Sessions but I seriously contemplated it on a couple of occasions.
I dont even know how Super Duper Love goes, but I saw the video once on MuchMoreMusic. I saw her perform Fell In Love With a Boy quite a few times on TV and she was great, I never saw the video for that though.

I just got an advanced copy of the album ('Mind, Body and Soul') and have yet to listen to it completely but here is the tracklisting. When in comes up on my i-tunes it has 'Understand' as the title for track 10 and 11. After I listen to the whole album I'll give you all a review. 1. Right To Be Wrong 2. Jet Lag 3. You Had Me 4. Spoiled 5. Don't Cha Wanna Ride 6. Less Is More 7. Security 8. Young At Heart 9. Snakes and Ladders 10. Understand 11. ?Understand? 12. Don't Know How 13. Killing Time 14. Sleep Like a Child

Shes a soul singer not a pop singer...... So, Modest Mouse are in the top 40 and they're not pop singers, neither are Linkin Park as much as I hate them. I'd love to see Joss Stone get airplay period. And her video for Super Duper Love kicks all sorts of ass.

And her video for Super Duper Love kicks all sorts of ass. im aware of that. but was just stating i dont think the "pop" section was the best place to put her. Seems like maybe AC or Hot AC would be her place because Urban nor rhythmic will be embracing her and neither has pop. Does anyone have this on MP3?

Now you can purchase both "You Had Me" and "Don't Cha Wanna Ride" on iTunes. I'm very interested in hearing "Don't Cha Wanna Ride" since I've already heard "You Had Me" at VH1!

'Don't Cha Wanna Ride' is great! It seems better suited for pop radio.
'Less is More' and 'Snakes and Ladders' are two standout tracks for me. I would love to upload them for you all but I fear that I could get someone (or myself) in trouble.

This is a really awesome song. Joss Stone might just have a long future ahead of her if this is any indication of her new album.

I'm somewhat perplexed by Joss' failure with YHM #49 -13. Its been out for a couple of months and it never caught wind. Album sales were respectable but have taken a quick dip. My daughter had an interesting explanation for its poor performance. She bought "Soul Sessions" because she liked "Fell in Love With A Boy" but she was very dissapointed with the rest of the album. She said shes seen Joss' new album at lots of music stores and passed it up because of "Soul Sessions" dissapointment. She's never even heard YHM.
I agree with my 29 year old music loving daughter. Joss is a talented artist but her first album, although admittedly promoted as Soul not Pop, WAS targeted to Pop audiences. YHM was not even released to Rythmic - its natural genre - but I don't think that would have helped anyway. I agree with most - not all - of this review of "Mind Body and Soul":

CD Reviews
Joss Stone, "Mind, Body & Soul" (S-Curve Records/EMI)

Listening to Joss Stone’s second album is inspiring. After one go-round, listeners will feel inspired to listen to other artists — good blue-eyed soul artists, such as Lisa Stansfield, Teena Marie and Remy Shand. It’s not that Stone can’t sing. She has great pipes. But with overstylized music and extra heavy doses of vibrato, Stone tries to come across as a new version of vocal heavyweight Aretha Franklin. Instead, she sounds more like vocal lightweight Alicia Keys. Tunes such as “Right To Be Wrong” and “Understand” seem well-intentioned, but the “soulfulness” feels forced leaving the listener wearied. A victim of bad writing and producing and too much buzz, Stone would be better off covering other people’s hits until she finds a niche of her own. GRADE: C-
Soul without peaks and valleys gets boring. I think Joss' limited range is limiting her ability to reach the heights she aspires to. There are half a dozen female artists in front of Joss on the charts, who don't have a fraction of Joss' skills, because theyr'e singing pop/rock. S-Curve did a great job creating buzz but all of a sudden the bee got sick and died from the lack of nourishment of a Pop diet.

I think pushing her at pop is a mistake as well. How can they make her to be some type of nw soul child but yet they push her at pop? Urban, Urban AC, Rhythmic should be where she is pushed. Maybe even AC.

They're pushing her at pop because she's different from anything out there right now. And it can't hurt that pop sells really well.
As for this song...I love it.
And the album? I love it. "You Had Me" is actually one of the weaker tracks, which says a lot, because it's a friggin' strong track.
I hope "Jet Lag" is the next single. :)
