The title makes me think its a ballad, which might not be good news for RHY, but could be great for Urban AC (and Urban maybe...).

I can't wait, but the title makes me think it won't be radio-friendly at all.

I can't wait, but the title makes me think it won't be radio-friendly at all. Well "he wasnt man enough" and "just be a man about it" are similar titles to "a perfect man" and they were both radio friendly. I heard about this song months ago, over the summer. Most of the album was done a while ago, but I heard they wanted her to go back to the studio because not all of it was good but this was one of the best tracks she did.

in my eyes...one of the MOST under-rated artists of our time!! How the hell is Toni Braxton underrated? Is it her 25 million sold? Her 6 Grammy Awards? Her 2 critically acclaimed albums that will probably go down as 2 of the best r&b albums ever. Her #1 hit singles? What? LOL! She is rated just fine in the industry and has gotten more than her fair share of recognition.

Her #1 hit singles? Exactly. She's very talented and has been quite successful, but she's not at the Mariah/Whitney level of recognition.

but she's not at the Mariah/Whitney level of recognition. Yea and I think thats because Toni is not as mainstream as Mariah and Whitney. Dont get me wrong, Toni has had her fair of crossover success with songs like "unbreak my heart", but the bulk of her success and fan base definately comes from r&b. verses Mariah and Whitney who have alot of pop hits and a wider mainstream audience during their prime.

Exactly. She's very talented and has been quite successful, but she's not at the Mariah/Whitney level of recognition. In their defense they've sold 4 times as many records as Toni Braxton. In either case I don't think she's underrated accept for her last 2 albums.

Yea and I think thats because Toni is not as mainstream as Mariah and Whitney. Wrong. My 80 year old grandparents would probably recognize Toni if they saw her on the street, and aside from Mariah, Whitney, and Janet I can't say that about any other female R&B artist. Toni was very mainstream during her first 2 albums and was a household across the board. She was known just as well among soccer moms as she was among the street scene during her first two albums.

Toni was very mainstream during her first 2 albums and was a household across the board. She was known just as well among soccer moms as she was among the street scene during her first two albums. The difference between Whitney, Mariah, Janet and Toni was that Toni was not abe to sustain her heights of popularity. No matter how unsuccessful Janet, Mariah and Whitney may become, people will always recognize them as legends. Toni only had 2 extremely successful albums when she was at her prime and with long breaks in between, her legend staus just doesnt compare. It just didnt sustain in comparison. Mariah, Whitney and Janet all did better with mainstrem audiences, they had a wider audience (wider audience = more well known) and Toni Braxton just isnt seen in the same heights as they are. And part of that is because she has more appeal to the urban market and the other reason is she just didnt make as much of an impact as they did. I LOVE Toni but she is in NO way thought of in the same light as Whitney/Mariah/Janet.

I'm not debating whose legacy is stronger, that wasn't what you said. You said Toni isn't as known in the mainstream, and that would be a false statement. Here's where you're WRONG. Toni's audience was just as wide as the others'. If anything, it was wider. "Un-Break My Heart" was a HAC hit. Whitney hasn't had one of those. Janet hasn't to the degree that "U-bMY" did. So, Toni's audience is just as wide. The difference is that the other have had more hits on a wide-scale than Toni, but regardless she still reached as many audiences as the others. The only person to this day outside of Mariah/Janet/Whitney who has. She's not, but again that has nothing to do with how many audiences she's reached. And on a side note, Toni was considered as a shoe-in to join the ranks of the others eventually til The Heat underperfomed.

I never said Toni was NOT mainstream, I said she was not AS mainstream as the others. "unbreak my heart" was huge but thats 1 huge hit compared to the tons of pop hits the others racked up over a 10+ year span. And yes she was on her way to being up to the status of the others but "the heat" kind of mess that up unfortunately. But also her own long breaks in between albums took ALOT of her steam away. Music has just never seemed to be Tonis top priority unfortunately. But yea you are right, she was definately on her way and she is the only other female artist that is close to their level of crossover success. I just wonder can this album help her get back to where she used to be?

I never said Toni was NOT mainstream, I said she was not AS mainstream as the others. " I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, because I think she is AS mainstream. She was in mainstream magazines and TV shows at a time when Urban music artists weren't. She won a Grammy in the Pop category, over Celine Dion and Jewel. So, she DID accomplish being AS mainstream, just not as many times and for not as long, though I believe if you have name recognition once, you have it always regardless of whether or not you're fresh on people's minds. No. She'll be lucky if she gets a Top 10 Urban hit now.

I think she was mainstream, but I don't think she has the name recognition of the big 5 ladies: Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Celine. Everyone knows those women whether they've ever heard a song by them or not. I don't think that's the case with Toni.

I'm just happy that she is giving us some new material. She has to be the best alto in all of the world - she can really sing. And I think this is what was meant by the person who said that she was the most underrated artist of our time. She is, in some context, because many don't realize how powerful and capable her instrument is. I'm a long-time fan.
"A Perfect Man" sounds promising. Rumored tracks include:
- "Midnight" - "Long Way Home" - "Shadowless" - "For Me" - "Never Get Over" - "Places" - "I Loved You" - "Please My Baby"
It's been said that she's worked with the Underdogs, did 3 tracks with Soulshock & Karlin ( "I Love Me Some Him), and Babyface.
She also has her TV show with the WB in the works and is now the spokesperson for the American Heart Association "Go Red For Women" Campaign.
