This is getting a CHR/POP release on August 10th, making lots of Monica fans very happy. How well will it do? It sorta sounds like Usher's single "U Got It Bad"
Any Chance for Top 20?
Predicted peak:18

If any song on this album has a shot at CHR/Pop, it's this one.

It did unexpectedly well on urban. It might beat expectations on pop as well.
Im still somewhat surprised this song is a hit but it sounds good on pop radio.

This is so old now. I'll say somewhere in the 50s.

Why wait so late? Aug. 10th. I mean what's the point in that? The song will be dead by then and it'll be no point in even releasing it to pop so late.

If "So Gone" didn't do well, there's no way this song will. It's not doing all that great on CHR/Rhythmic anyway. I predict #42.

If "So Gone" didn't do well, there's no way this song will. I agree. Slow jams just don't do well at Pop anymore, unless they're by the "it" artists of the moment, such as the case with "Burn."

Seems like Monica hasn't had a pop hit for awhile. I don't see this song doing anything. If So Gone can't do it at pop radio, either will this song. I predict a peak at number 47...at the highest.

I too am surprised they are sending this to pop. I like it--but in a once a week kind of way. They want to squeeze a few sales out of it but I don't think they will spend any money on it. Don't think it will chart at pop.

Monica is more washed up than Smash Mouth rofl. Why do they always do this? They see if her singles do well on Urban, then Rhythmic and that basically dictates whether it gets sent to pop or not. Maybe if they impacted all at the same time, the song would be doing better.

I can understand not wanting to release a song to peripheral formats if it does poorly at the artist/song's core format, but if it's doing well, why wait until it has already peaked at one format to release it to others (it will most likely be on its way down at Urban by the time it goes for adds at Pop)?

Monica is more washed up than Smash Mouth yeah, since a year after the album came out she got a top 10 R&B hit comparing this to "So Gone" is idiotic since they're not the same song at all. this is still doing as well as it ever has at Rhythmic, it's been having between +100 and +200 gains for a few months now. don't talk about this "it's so old now" crap either, b/c you know most of the Pop audience has never heard this to them. look at "if i ain't got you", its just now flying up the chart, yet it was #1 on urban months ago. anyway, this has 20 spins now, which is more than incidental. i'm not saying it's going to break top 30, but "So Gone" peaked at like #95.

Even if it didn't do well on pop, any amount of airplay would have helped it on the Hot 100 anyways.

I finally heard this song today, on the radio.
This song is exceptionally BLAND. I can't believe how generic this song sounds - well, considering how generic most hip-hop/"R&B" [quotes necessary] is these days, it shouldn't be that surprising.
I don't understand how this could've been a hit, especially since its been a year since her album was released.

The song put me to sleep the first time I heard it. But, now I like it a lot. The guitar is a rip-off of Usher's "U Got it bad", but the song is pretty good. She she strick to pop ballads.

i wonder why this song isnt doing well at pop but :if i aint got u" is? IIAGY seems alot more soulful and "you shoulda known beeter" seem slik eit would do well at pop. It has the guitar in it which seems like it would make it more pop friendly???

I disagree, "If I Ain't Got You," is more catchier, heartfelt, and pop friendlier than "You Should've Known Better." Monica's record label should've known better not to send this song to pop radio because it'll just end up being a waste of time. I think the guitar sound does make it a little more mainstream attractive. However, the song on a whole is just too urbanish for mainstream markets like many of her songs from "After The Storm."
Don't get me wrong I like Monica. I think she is an extremely beautiful and talented artist. I love her. But I doubt the pessimistic and male bashing lyrics of a very slow paced song is what pop listeners want to hear right now, especially during the summer season.
I feel an R&B/urban audience would appreciate a song like "You Should've Known Better" more than a mainstream audience would on a whole.

But I doubt the pessimistic and male bashing lyrics of a very slow paced song is what pop listeners want to hear right now, especially during the summer season. the lyrics say he should've known better than to think she would leave him. it's a song about fidelity, not negative in anyway. summertime didn't seem to effect it, it had 13,000+ spins at Urban for the month of June. as for it ripping off "u got it bad", Jermaine Dupri did both songs. I'm not sure which one came first, but they were around the same time. This song's first version was recorded in late 2001.

Well "U Got It Bad" was from "8701" released on 8/7/2001 so it probably was recorded in the first half of that year before Monica's song.

your reaction is how almost everyone reacted when they first heard it. over time more and more people changed their mind about it. That's very true! LOL! I ranked it 13th (last) among Monica singles in that topic in Your Opinion Please and now I love it. Too bad it's getting less and less airplay. If dragoneyez doesn't hear it ever again, he wouldn't get the chance to like it. I would say however, that it sounds a little generic. And I think it was payolaed a little. And I disagree with Monica on this one. If I were Monica and my loved one was sent to prison, I wouldn't be singing that song. She wouldn't see me on the receiver every Saturday. The only thing she'd see is the skid marks as I accelerate out the door.

+23 at Pop, the leaders/starters doesn't work most of the time, so i don't know where it's being played. Pre-impact spins is better than Monica's done at Pop since "All Eyez On Me". it's falling at a normal rate at Urban and Urban AC, but it's actually gaining rather strongly at Rhythmic, +279 up to #23 from #25.
Since only Urban started playing this back during the winter, it's basically okay for Rhythmic and Pop to just start it now, in terms of people being tired of it. I don't expect it to do anything more than it already has; cumulative audience has reached 600million, which is great. But so far it doesn't look done at CHR.

42 spins, +31 This is on 7 stations, lead by Tulsa.
that makes it bullet to #110 from #177. "So gone" peaked in like the 80s or 90s.

this is in the "taking off" part of the Pop chart, and is official going for adds at this point. She has 3 leaders and a slew of starters, +54 to 65 spins. The next week will determine whether this song will do anything at pop; if it makes top 50 it'll be Monica's first time at Pop since "Angel of Mine" in 1999, which is insane.
Talk about finishing the album with a bang.
