His dreams had all come true.
150 miles from his old bed,
So home sick he grew.
Went to class everday,
He was always there on time.
Trying to make his parents proud,
They'd spent their every dime.
He woke up late that morning,
The shower - he ran past.
Had to be on time for class,
Didn't know it'd be his last.
Down the stairs and out the door,
He ran so fast.
He'd worked so hard to earn his place
with the others in the class.
The trigger pulled, the bullet slang
He reacted oh so fast.
The boy became a man that day,
he tried to save the class.
His mom and dad stood so still,
silenced by the news.
Their son had been so brave that day,
but they were still confused.
Thirty-two stories started that morning,
they ended all the same.
Innocence was lost,
a coward was to blame.
Countless families and friends were changed,
but united still the same.
We'll never forget our friends,
it will never be the same.
