Yes, they used the 20-week count from the weeks on column (which included the unofficial test charts) to determine recurrent status. Otherwise you'd have songs that (for all intents and purposes) should be recurrent clogging up the chart for an extra ten weeks or so.
But again, those test charts were never published or made available to the public, so officially the chart is only ten weeks old (not 21).

So if they didn't count the "test charts" why not just wind the "weeks on" column back by 10?
Since they didn't and are using that column to move songs to recurrent, they are moving songs that have "officially" been on the chart for 20 weeks.
But, how is that possible, if the chart has only "officially" existed for 10 weeks?
If a chart was not published, does that mean it was not "official"? Apparently, in this case, no.
Conclusion, the use of the weeks on column to move songs to recurrent is evidence that those "test charts" are official and are being used and do count. The published chart is 10 weeks old. The actual chart that is being used is 21 weeks old.

Irreplaceable "missed the boat" though. From a person's standpoint, it had a very successful chart run and would be a clear contender for the #1 song of the year. By the truth of the matter is that it peaked at a bad time. I disagree. Its losing a few weeks could hurt it, but it peaked at a time when downloads are at their highest, so it probably sold more due to that. That will help it come year-end time. Also, any songs still charting will have fewer chart points than they would have had under the old system, so songs with part of their run during this time are at a slight disadvantage.

thanks. only album i hate to recognize is titanic because it was that one song that sold the album more than anything and most of the album is orchestra. celine had that power i guess like Whitney did for the Bodyguard. I think it sold well just because the movie was huge, not because of Celine or her song. "MHWGO" was actually flopping until the movie came out.

Didn't Billboard list the "Weeks On" to include the weeks the song was on the test chart, but it didn't count that peak?

None of these are as of this week, some of these are updated through 7/21 catalog chart These are just what I was able to pull from ukmix, the oldest numbers is as of 1/1/07 Shania 15409 Metallica 14948 Alanis 14513 Millenium 12091 Bodyguard 11790 Supernatural 11588 Human Clay -Creed 11484 No Strings Attached - 11099 1 - Beatles 10946 Falling Into You - 10753 Baby One More Time 10525 Norah Jones - 10165 Hootie & The Blowfish - 10123 Titanic - 10096 Backstreet Boys 10091 Marshall Mathers - 10010 Maybe the keepers of the catalog lists out there could help me make this more accurate ??? Only 3 of the Top 16 albums are on the last catalog chart I saw: Beatles, Metallica and Norah Jones. Sales are very low for Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, and Hootie.

It doesn't matter what artist you are talking about, those sort of numbers will be difficult to achieve. It is rare when it does happen. Only 14 times since 1991, none since 2005

A new record for longest span between charting singles Really? :o I would have thought she would have had something chart at the start of the rock era, maybe in re-issued singles or something. Or even in modern times, on an AC or recurrent chart or Hot 100 Singles Sales or something.

62 years is a long time. Of course, she had many album chart appearances.
For more...see the writeup on last weeks chart beat(online) before they replace it with the new one.

Biggest One-week sales in Soundscan history (1991-2007) Great list - seems BB quote integer rather than rounded 000's in some of their older news articles! Couple of exact #'s - The Massacre 1,140,638 , Confessions 1,096,213, and a couple rounded to nearest hundred (care of Hanboo @ UKMix) - Atomic Bomb 870,700 , Encore 839,700
