I agree with the talk of Kelly Clarkson's first single from her upcoming CD. I know I am far more likely to purchase the album if Breakaway is included.

I'd love to see Avril stall and let Ryan Cabrera take the top spot! That'd be something no one would've expected!

Well I think Breakaway will definitely be included on Kelly's new album, if they had any sense at all. The question is if it will be the first single or what.
I think they should keep it as the official first single and run with it, and then roll out another single a few weeks before the album is in stores.
That makes the most sense, to me anyway. Breakaway has a big bullet and looks like it will have longevity heading into the Top 10 meaning it won't be leaving any time soon and last time I checked Kelly's album comes out in November which isnt THAT far off. Breakaway probably won't go recurrent before the album drops.

I don't think Breakaway should be treated as 1st single. It should run its course with no pressure from the label and when it loses its bullet, release the 1st album single. I think it can be really successful.

It's just surprising that a song like this still makes the top ten.

Kelly's album is supposed to come out November 30. Breakaway will probably lose its bullet at least a month before then, which is when the first single from the album should be released. I want Breakaway to go as far as it can go (top 10 seems pretty certain, top 5 a possibility), but I also want Kelly to have a song she recorded specifically for the album out as a single in advance of the album. According to fans who met Kelly at the Princess Diaries 2 premiere, Breakaway will most likely be a bonus track on her album.

Go Alicia! "-12"! And how nice that it's the weekend already, so she might actually register a bullet for the final update, even if it lasts for just a day...

Okay, this is my first time looking at the pop chart in about a week, so...
Can Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, Ryan Cabrera, and Ciara all hit #1 within about 6 weeks of each other? It's possible right now.
How did BEP get all the way to #4 with a 4th single?
I'm glad to see Linkin Park picking up again. Hopefully they can make the top 10 for the third time.
ROFL at Finger Eleven still going. This is like "Falls On Me", except that song didn't come out a year before peaking on the pop chart.
Switchfoot is still chugging along like "Meant to Live" was at this stage. I'm still holding out hope for top 10.
I heard that Destiny's Child song on the "Play For a Billion" show. But +2000?!?! Good grief!
Woohoo for Christina/Missy stalling out in the 20s!
I thought "Fly" was going to be a much bigger hit than it's turning out to be.
I'm surprised that Dashboard are still bulleted, and in the top 30.
A #32 peak for Franz Ferdinand, if this is where their run ends, is mighty impressive.
It's good to see the Killers still going, and also for Trick Daddy and Yellowcard making it into the top 50 (but not Akon -- that song is so boring).
Songs I haven't heard:
29. Nelly/Christina Aguilera - "Tilt Ya Head Back" 31. Nitty - "Nasty Girl" (???) 35. Skye Sweetnam - "Tangled Up In Me" 37. JoJo - "Baby It's You" 40. Good Charlotte - "Predictable" 45. Mis-Teeq - "One Night Stand" 49. Simple Plan - "Welcome to My Life"
New & Active 52. Britney Spears - "My Prerogative" 55. Christina Milian - "Whatever U Want" 58. Joss Stone - "You Had Me"

Avril seems like a lock for #1 even a week ago but now it's looking doubtful. Maroon 5 now has a bigger bullet and is already at #1. She's have to realllllly pick up again to get to #1, and all of this before Ciara gets too close. I hope Avril does get to #1, but in the meantime congrats to Maroon 5... they deserve it.

I am still praying that Maroon and Avril get a #1. However...I do have this bad sinking feeling that Ryan will jump Avril and go #1. **shudders** Oh well...Maroon getting another #1 is enough for me.
I am rooting for Dashboard, Franz, and Switchfoot to have solid hits...they have all gone further than I expected at this moment though.

I really don't think Ryan can hit #1 but then again I never thought he'd make the top 10 or 20.

I think all of Avril's other #1's were better than this song. This song seems like a weird edition to add to her list of #1's, i don't know why. Maybe it's because her first album had such a huge impact and she had a lot of hype, while now she just seems to be there quietly.

However...I do have this bad sinking feeling that Ryan will jump Avril and go #1. Not very likely unless Avril stops abruptly at 7500 spins. She's have to realllllly pick up again to get to #1 Not really. All she needs to do is to keep on chugging along and wait for Maroon5 to falter. I think all of Avril's other #1's were better than this song. You DO know that Sk8er Boi was a #1 hit right?

Does anyone know if Green Day's "American Idiot" will go for adds on the CHR/Pop Chart?

Considering that people were questioning Maroon 5 when they had much this same situation, I have to disagree. The difference is Maroon 5 was behind a declining #1 while Avril is behind one that is gaining at about her same pace, sometimes a little more. If she can hold on to her bullet longer than Maroon, then she still has a shot... but that's a pretty uncertain if.

If Ciara gets to number 1 then I'll strangle myself. That song doesn't even deserve top 10. I hope Avril doesn't take long usurping the #1 spot from moron 5. (and no, that wasn't a typo) p.s.: and ouch for Hilary Duff. I was expecting Fly to be a sure-fire top 10 hit. Now it looks like it might not even crack top 25.

To me it seems like Hilary Duff is out. She's not as popular as she was this time last year. I think her fans have outgrown her and she's become too predictable.

Nothing is likely to change from now to the final update, so here's a brief summary:
Maroon 5 moves up to #1. They should be able to stay there for at least a few weeks as long as their bullet doesn't disappear or Avril's bullet doesn't see a significant sudden increase.
Ciara moves into the top 10, jumping 13-8*. She'll jump to either #6 or #7 next week, depending on whether or not she can catch Lil' Flip.
Kelly Clarkson makes a nice jump this week, moving up five spots to #13. If her current gains conitnue, she could jump to as high as #9 next week.
Finger Eleven and Linkin Park are in a bit of a logjam right now and will need to hold onto their bullets a few weeks longer in order to make the top 10.
Destiny's Child leaps 41-23*, giving them the highest top 40 debut since "Lady Marmalade", which entered the top 40 at #22 back in 2001.
"Car Wash"'s bullet has dropped a lot, but it's up over 50 spins from yesterday so it could still make the top 20.
Thanks to Destiny's Child's big leap, Ashlee Simpson and Usher f/ Alicia Keys both get shoved back a spot despite being the 4th and 7th greatest gainers respectively.
Quite a few songs in the 31-40 range have decent gains, but may have to wait a few weeks to make the top 30 as everything from #23 through #32 is bulleted right now and the only song that could possibly go recurrent next week is Hoobastank. (Nelly and Kevin Lyttle are only in weeks 10 and 18 respectively.)
Going recurrent this week: Britney Spears, Petey deleted
Top 40 debuts: Destiny's Child(#23), Jojo(#37), Good Charlotte(#38)
Top 50 debuts: Trick Daddy(#44), Simple Plan(#45), Britney Spears(#47), Yellowcard(#48)
New & Active:
1. Gavin DeGraw 2. Christina Milian f/ Joe Budden 3. J-Kwon 4. LL Cool J (IF he's been added to at least 10% of the panel; he hadn't been as of last week.) 5. Joss Stone 6. Three Days Grace 7. Busted 8. Jadakiss f/ Anthony Hamilton 9. Crossfade 10. Mase (but see LL Cool J)

So what was the last ballad to be a #1 hit? If you consider Hoobastank's "The Reason" or 3 Doors Down's "Here Without You" to be ballads (well, power ballads), then probably those songs. Before that, it'd be "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera and possibly "I'm With You" by Avril Lavigne (am I allowed to say both of those in the same post?). :)

To me it seems like Hilary Duff is out. She's not as popular as she was this time last year. I think her fans have outgrown her and she's become too predictable. Thats what happens to image driven pseudo-artists created in the laboratory by evil money grubbing labels. I predict the same fate for Justin Timberlake and worse--Cameron will dump him too.

"Fly" is actually a really good song. It's a shame that Hilary Duff recorded it instead of someone that could actually sing. So it sucks for the song, but i'm happy that the "artist" seems to be fading. (She's gonna be on the cover of Blender. Desperate, anyone?)
Yay for Kelly Clarkson!! I still can't believe that a song like "Breakaway" is getting this many spins in the current radio climate, but i'm happy.
