09.28.04 - With the release of Antics, Interpol fulfills their two-album contract with Matador Records. 10.02.05 - Final Antics show at Webster Hall in NYC. 05.18.06 - The band selects Dave Holmes as their manager (replacing Brandon Schmidt) and retains attorney Richard Grabel. 06.20.06 - Hits Daily Double reports the band is in talks with labels. 07.04.06 - Website update: In all seriousness, we're hard at work on the writing of album three. We've been at it for six months - in case you heard we were on hiatus. We're all very excited about it and think that you will be too. Having yet to record, we can only say that Release will come sometime next year. As far as the website, check back for further developments and updates. And thanks for standing by. We have you all in our hearts and little pulsating musical minds. We can't offer much of a preview at present, but I can tell you we've got one gem in the works entitled "The Heinrich Maneuver." And another that was called "Pawn Shop." But that's called something else now. Thank you for being with us. And we truly look forward to sharing with you our newest.08.15.06 - Billboard reports Interpol inked a deal with Capitol Records. 09.16.06 - Excerpt from a post by Matador's Gerard Cosloy on the label's forum: Right up until the day [Interpol] informed us they were signing with Capitol, Matador was still trying to get them to sign a new deal. 11.17.06 - Recording update: We are now recording album 3. The studio is in NYC, and we're enjoying being local. The atmosphere and the environs of a recording facility affect the sound and feel of an album in the subtlest ways. And we are affected. And it is subtle. Sounds great so far. But we'll be here for a while yet.01.12.07 - EMI bigwigs Alain Levy and David Munns are ousted from the company. 01.13.07 - A photo of NYC's skyline replaces the Antics-era website. 01.25.07 - Capitol and Virgin merge to form the Capitol Music Group; Capitol President Andy Slater steps down. 02.15.07 - Daniel Kessler was interviewed by Steve Lamacq on BBC's 6 Music radio show ( MP3). Album will be finished next month with an expected release date in June; one song is titled "Mammoth." 03.25.07 - Interpol page added on Capitol Records' website. 04.21.07 - Website updated with new splash page and release date. 04.24.07 - Album title and tracklist posted on the band's official message board. 05.08.07 - The Heinrich Maneuver (radio edit) added to the iTunes music store.

Exclusive: Interpol return ( BBC 6 Music) Dan talks to Lamacq 16 Feb 07 - Interpol's founding member Dan Kessler has spoken exclusively to 6 Music about the band's return and highly anticipated third album. It's been three years since the last Interpol album proper, Antics was released, and he told Steve Lamaq he's in the UK mixing its follow-up: "I wrote a lot of songs on my own, and then when we got together in January. We just kinda started going through songs, building them up. There was a really good energy to it. We really need to take a break at the end of touring. Everyone needed to return to their own lives, just get back to normal living, so it was a good energy when we picked it up." The new album is out in June. Since 2004, the Remix EP was released, the band changed labels and saw some of their material included on TV show soundtracks (Six Feet Under, The O.C). "With this record, I think, anything goes. We're a lot more open. It sounds like Interpol. It sounds like our tunes, but there's a lot more atmosphere and sound in general, rather than just filling it up with guitars all the time." Recording took place in New York, a city whose hectic pace added to the recording process: "New York's a world of distractions, and when you're making a record, that can be a very bad thing or a good thing. I think at this point in our lives, it was a good thing." - Jacqueline Springer

Interpol Announce Canadian TourAfter years of waiting, long stretches of silence, and the ramping up of fan expectations, Capitol Records recording artists Interpol have finally announced...a Canadian tour! With Interpol's third album tentatively scheduled for release "early this summer", the first people to hear new material won't be the crowds at Coachella or NYC's hipster elite. Rather, they will be the citizens of Ottawa, Ontario, where the band will launch a brief pre-Coachella trek in mid-April. Interpol are working on the album right now with producer Rich Costey, who has worked with everyone from Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party to Rage Against the Machine and My Chemical Romance to Fiona Apple and the Swirlies. Should be interesting. Dates: 04-15 Ottawa, Ontario - Capitol 04-16 Kitchener, Ontario - Element 04-17 London, Ontario - Cowboys Ranch 04-20 Winnipeg, Manitoba - Garrick Center 04-22 Calgary, Alberta - MacEwan Centre 04-23 Edmonton, Alberta - Event Center 04-25 Vancouver, British Columbia - The Commodore 04-27 Indio, CA - Empire Polo Field (Coachella) 05-27 George, WA - The Gorge (Sasquatch!) 07-01 Werchter, Belgium - Rock Werchter 07-07 Naas, Ireland - Punchestown Racecourse (Oxegen) 07-08 Balado, Scotland - T in the Park

World Exclusive - Interpol reveal all about new albumBandmember Daniel Kessler tells NME.COM about new LP Interpol have almost completed their long-awaited new album, guitarist Daniel Kessler has told NME. The follow-up to 2004's 'Antics' will be the group's first with major label Capitol, and their first with a producer, Rich Costey, who has previously worked with Muse. Kessler says the album is more "expressive" than its predecessors. He said: "We had keyboards on from the start which we've never done before," he said. "It's like a fifth member. There's a lot more texture, and interesting sounds, there's definitely progression and growth." Kessler explained that the band would start naming the record once all the work had finished, but dismissed internet rumours it will be called 'Moderation'. "'Moderation'? Really? That sounds terrible - small doses!" joked Kessler. "We're going to start deciding the titles in the next week or so. We've got on called 'Mammoth' at the moment, I doubt that's going to change and another called 'The Heimlich Manoeuvre', we'll see if we keep that, it could be funny."

Interpol Shares Its 'Love' On Third AlbumApril 26, 2007, 12:00 AM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Interpol doesn't stray far from the formula that helped its first two Matador albums sell more than 1 million copies combined on the new "Our Love To Admire," due July 10 via Capitol. First single "The Heinrich Maneuver" is a peppy kiss-off to an ex-love now residing on the opposite coast and hits radio May 7; the band has been playing it of late during its just-concluded Canadian tour. The band is on familiar footing with tracks like the tense "No I in Threesome" ("Maybe it's time we give something new a try," frontman Paul Banks sings) and the relentless "Mammoth," which are loaded with Daniel Kessler's simple, repeated guitar riffs and Carlos D's powerful bass underpinnings. There are some new sonic experiments; the album begins with the funereal, nearly six-minute "Pioneer to the Falls," featuring Jim Morrison-esque crooning from Banks, and wraps with another unusually ambient piece, "The Lighthouse." Hints of soul creep in on the spaced-out "Rest My Chemistry" ("I've slept for two days / I've bathed in nothing but sweat," Banks sings) and "Pace Is the Trick." Interpol will air out the new material in front of its largest audience yet tomorrow (April 27) at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. Only three other U.S. shows are on tap as part of the current summer schedule, which is dominated by international festival dates through late August.

Jaded Insider: Not Very Arresting: Interpol's after-dark set on the main stage was pretty monochromatic. The new songs ("Pioneer to the Falls," "The Heinrich Maneuver," "Mammoth") from the upcoming "Our Love To Admire" didn't stand out from the catalog; everything felt like it could have come from the same album, despite actually coming from three. They created a mood, but they didn't vary it at all. What was most notable was bassist Carlos D's transformation from scary Goth guy with greased New Wave haircut to an equally scary character straight out of 1842 we dubbed Edgar Allen Copperfield (poufy hair, pencil-thin mustache, bolo tie, Victorian top coat).

The Heinrich Maneuver (official album version)In-Depth Interpol Album Details2007-04-30 12:27:39.883, Story by: Taylor Mason Interpol will make their major label debut with the release of Our Love To Admire (Capitol), the New York band's third studio album. CMJ was recently treated to an exclusive preview of the record. The 11 tracks off of Our Love highlight the improved production quality of their richly textured songs, which should satisfy Interpol devotees while reaching a new crowd of morbid shoegazers. And with songs like "No I In Threesome," "Pace Is The Trick" and "Rest My Chemistry," the band is still their sinister and lonesome selves, but this time with some added sexual charge. "No I In Threesome," the album's second track, spotlights vocalist Paul Banks' ability to effortlessly coax while he croons, "Babe, it's time we give something new a try/Sweet breath of time, it's whispering its truth not mine/There's no I in threesome and I'm all for it," returning to the sexual innuendo that made Turn On The Bright Lights' "Stella Was A Diver" so captivating. For "Pace Is The Trick," the raw and primal percussion provides the backdrop for lyrics about a woman whom Banks refers to as "lioness" and her death grip, as he wails, "You can't hold it too tight, these matters of security/You don't have to be wound so tight, smoking in the balcony." "Rest My Chemistry," however, is the quintessential vampire gem. Beginning with the distant sounds of bluesy piano, "Chemistry" is tragically Hollywood, with each verse a confession ("My friends they come and the lines go by"), contemplation ("Haven't slept in two days/I've bathed in nothing but sweat/and I've made hallways scenes for things to regret") and conviction ("I live my life in cocaine"). Interpol will test out the new album to audiences this summer at festivals including Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, T In The Park, Leeds and Reading. A full slate of US dates will be confirmed in the near future.
