If Bo really thinks this is a "rock'n'roll album" then he never was a true rocker. How can you be a rocker when you don't know what rock'n roll is? Apart from that, I don't understand his constant need to put down everyone else from the show just to prop himself up. >:(

well so much for that "he doesn't like his material!" stuff. LOL at trying to say he's putting down everyone else. Go Bo! I like the guy. Especially for saying: ""I think that everything to do with my album -- the look of it, the feel, the songs-are about me. They didn't come in and go, 'Bo, change this, all of the kids are wearing mascara ...'F*** that. " LOL, I love that. I'm going to start saying that. "Ohhh! All the kids are wearing Mascara - 'F*** that'!" ahahahaha - that's some dave chappelle stuff right there I swear he makes me feel like Kelly Clarkson is genius..

...and most of his album's collaborators. The writer/producer list basically looks like " Breakaway For Men." (Sounds like a cologne, don't ya think? )

I liked Bo on AI. I was rooting for him to win. Having said that, the more I hear this guy talk, the less I like him. IMO, Bo should tame down some of his whining until he writes an entire album without a bunch of co-writers. In rock, you need to be a writer if you want any credibility. I know there are exceptions but not many in todays rock climate. I have not heard any of Bo's songs so I may like some of it. I'm not saying that. I just have a hunch that Bo is a weak writer. Time will tell.

There are lots of commercial radio-type songs on it, just like Kelly's album. I don't see why "Breakaway" is great, and Kelly gets kudos, and Bo is getting flack for the same sort of music.

In my view, the individual songs on the album aren't bad, but many of them don't seem right for Bo, and when all those songs are put together on one album, the album is a bit of a mess. A catch-all of commercial rock, combining tastes of 80s hair band rock, alt rock, emo, pop rock and country/Southern rock -- and it deprives a guy who established a clear identity while on AI of what really distinguished him on the show. Listening to the album, I feel like I don't even really hear Bo until track 6 ("Remember Me"), and then not again until the last 3 songs on the CD-side of the album.
I don't think I would mind there being as much of a pop influence on the album (I was expecting it -- figured they would go in a Gavin DeGraw direction) if there were less processing on Bo's vocals -- I mean, it's there on so many of the choruses, the smoothening out of his vocals...it's kind of annoying. Plus, the lyrics on a lot of these songs don't seem to fit a recently married guy who just became a father -- "It's My Life," "Willing to Try" and "Valley of Angels" are the only songs whose lyrics seem to reflect the place Bo's in now, and I don't think it's a coincidence that Bo wrote 2 of those songs.
Anyway, I think the album is less than the sum of its parts. I don't like RCA's decision-making on this one. But I'm still rooting for Bo to do well, and I'll be interested to see how this album does.

From E! They gave it a C+
Artist / Band: Bo Bice Record Label: RCA Records Release Date: December 13, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Review: If the point of American Idol is to get rid of the riffraff and hand contracts only to the most worthy contestants, then the show has failed. For every deserving winner, like Kelly Clarkson, there are dozens of lame runners-up (hey, Justin Guarini!) clogging the system. Earlier this year, Bo Bice lost out to Carrie Underwood. Rather than step aside gracefully, the Southern rocker made an album that collects table scraps from Nickelback ("You're Everything") and Bon Jovi ("Nothing Without You"), and presents them with a barrage of saccharine rock ballads courtesy of overpaid pop songwriters like Max Martin and John Shanks. The results are, predictably, Real dull

I always hate crap like this. People act like the runner-ups have no right to try to have a career just because they lost the show. And it's funny how he talks about the "overpaid pop songwriters Max Martin and John Shanks" when those were some of the exact same people on the "deserving" Kelly Clarkson's (not that I disagree, but their words) record.
EW have always hated the runner ups though. At least it's slightly more civil than the review Diana DeGarmo's album got...
Hometown papers are sometimes the worst. They seem to want to cut down the people in their town. the Raleigh NC paper hasn't been that nice to Clay either. :(
Anyway, I listened. The album's not bad. Not mindblowing, but none of these debuts are. I don't think it deserves the vitrol many reviewers have been sending its way, though a lot of it seems like they "smoothed out" Bo to make him more appealing to pop. "Valley of Angels" is where I get the most of him and is good. I'm not going to buy it, but it's decent. He probably suffered from the song swapping again, because to be honest several of the songs feel more like Clay Aiken, "The Real Thing" being one of them. Knowing 19 and RCA I could definitely see them being songs he rejected for whatever reason, and give them to Bo, not caring if their musicality and styles and voices are different. He did what he could, though.

I can't wait for projections from Hits on this. I am hoping for over 150,000 and a top ten debut. Would be ecstatic about a 200,000 plus showing.

I don't think HDD will be making anymore predictions until 2006. This was their message:
So, we'll most likely have to wait for Billboard to report the numbers next Wednesday.

Lookie here:
They probably won't do the building chart, though. These sales look higher than expectations, but Hits has been really off (in both directions) for the past few weeks, so who knows.

These sales look higher than expectations, but Hits has been really off (in both directions) for the past few weeks, so who knows. If they shipped 750,000, then the label's expectations were around 200,000 - 250,000. Sales of 180,000 - 200,000 would be at or under expectations, not above them.

He did what he could, though. You know a couple of days ago I was actually running "The Real Thing" through my head trying to picture Clay singing it. Although I was trying to think of why Clay couldn't get a commercial tune like this to record. That said I am enjoying Bo's album, and I hope he does well with it. He doesn't deserve knocks for trying to grab an audience beyond AI.
