Because I don't like it it will sell a million and be on every radio station. It will be like My Humps and I will have to give up listening to radio for a while. UGH!

Well, he does have the advantage of Thanksgiving sales, but if there's no promos, it won't get nearly the same results it could have. It will have to be more "someone sees it on the shelf" then people "looking for it" since most don't know it's out. And he only has 1 TV appearance happening before the release -- he's supposed to be on R&K on the 22nd. But that's not a good fit for the type of music fans he's looking to get. Should be interesting to watch and see what happens. Yeah he doesn't have good promo but maybe he has a base like the claymates or something...? We'll know by Wednesday when HDD does the One-Day prediction.

He does have a pretty good following on the AI message board, but I don't know about elsewhere. They are pretty dedicated, but again don't know the numbers of the "big picture" of fans. Based on that one show though, in his home state, you have to wonder. I think a lot of idols, if they had done the same thing coming off the show, would have had much larger crowds. Just too many unknown factors to even try to predict as far as I'm concerned. I definitely can't guage it well--lots of big vocal supporters but also a lot of big dissers.

In my experience outside the internet most of the people I know that watch idol are Chris fans. I know a decent amount that are Taylor fans also. And, a few that are fans of both. Most of the non-internet fanbase aren't familiar with him acting like an ass when he got voted off (with his arrogant comments and such) so that won't affect his sales among them. I don't know if all of them know he has a cd out Tuesday but I have 8 cd's (including one for myself) I need to buy because they know I'll be at Wal-Mart day it drops picking it up so I have the money in hand all ready to go. What does this mean? Probably nothing - unless that is indicative of how it is across the U.S. with Chris being a crowd favorite. cttw: Yeah, people wrote it off as a flop before it even officially went for adds. Looking at this: www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/Reports/Reg/EMD.asp?SOngID=1478961&NumDays=7It appeared to me to be doing fairly well for being in the early stages with no incentive for stations to play the song yet except for the PD's that felt it would be a smash and they wanted to be able to say "We were one of the first stations to get on board"? I don't see it having enough spins to make a difference in sales but idol fanbase alone should carry him well for 2 to 3 weeks - which could be enough time for Chris to make it to the top 15 if this song takes off as quick as I think it well after the official add date.

That's the thing. I know a number of people who were huge Chris fans during Idol but aren't active internet users, and they didn't have a clue his album was dropping soon. He'll do reasonably well regardless, I think, but he probably could have done much, much better with some pre-release promo.

I've seen his album promo commericial on CMT several times this weekend. It's is definitely generic rock by the numbers. Even down to his "rock" poses. I'm sure he'll sell millions and we'll be playing at a stadium near you soon.
That Billboard review wasn't mixed, it was bad. It was about what I was expecting for this guy. I'm sure Clive will buy a few good reviews here and there.
Thank goodness Rob Thomas' song didn't make the album. My guess is that when they finally met to write there wasn't much chemistry. Rob doesn't write the kind of music Chris will be recording.

He doesn't have a lot of promotion lined up...they must be expecting big sales just from the week he is releasing. Some "insider" on the Chris boards is saying he shipped 700K...but I don't know if I believe that...

For those questioning why RCA didn't push a single ahead of the album release, it's standard procedure for Clive. He truly believes that simply being on Idol should be worth 500,000 in sales regardless of promotion and that promotion should get you to platinum. RCA has done this to each and every one of their AI artists. When that formula hasn't proven true, the artist gets blamed rather than the label accepting accountability for a poor business and promotional plan. If Chris and Katharine don't take off on radio, the Bo Bice story is going to be repeated two more times.

sshhhhh don't tell anyone that it goes against those people who like to cook up conspiracy theories and rely on sabotage as an excuse for their favorite not making it.
I'm not sure how this album will do but Chris has a good voice so I'm hoping it'll do well enough to maybe get him to the point of having some creative control.

sshhhhh don't tell anyone that it goes against those people who like to cook up conspiracy theories and rely on sabotage as an excuse for their favorite not making it. It's standard procedure for the first album from an AI, not for all albums or non-AI artists. It has a very simple explanation too. The AI Tour finishes so late that there simply is no time for the albums and first singles to be ready in time to release a single 2 months prior to the album release, like you would do for any other album. The best they can do is get the single out a week or two before the album release. Since that first album has the built-in publicity of the artist spending 4 months being featured twice a week in the highest rated TV show in the country and being covered by the entertainment news every other day, plus touring to packed arenas for over 3 months, Clive relies on all that publicity for the first week sales and uses airplay to sustain sales after the die-hard fans from AI have purchased their albums the first few weeks. It works very well if the artist has a strong fanbase from AI, but it's a strategy that can only be used for the first album.

But if you put out a sophomore album containing work of lesser quality then your already horrible freshmen effort it doesn't make a difference, you're going to be treated like an idol rookie forever, and rightfully so.

Well the Billboard review did say Chris sang well, and that the 3rd song was a sure hit. But I agree with you that the review was mostly bad and that this is generic rock by the numbers. I also agree with your Rob Thomas comments. Personally, I like Rob's sound way more than the Nickelback/Daughtry sound, but sales for Nickelback are much higher than they are for RT (sigh), so I guess that bodes well for Chris.

For a horrible sophomore album from someone with an horrible first album, I would agree. However, it seems TPTB don't agree with either your or me, since the only idol with a really crappy first album that still got to make a second crappy album was Ruben, and TPTB promoted him as best they could. Anyway, I don't see how that relates to Chris.

Another bad review: CHRIS DAUGHTRY "Daughtry" (RCA) ..."American Idol" used to steer clear of such rock facsimiles, preferring to cruise down the middle of the road of pop, R&B and country. Then Bo Bice found a way to turn Southern rock into pablum, and nothing has been the same since. This year's "AI" rocker, Chris Daughtry, looked like a dreamboat compared with Bice. He also had it all over this year's other candidates in terms of pitch and focus. If that's not enough, he built up a huge sympathy factor by being voted off way too soon. While Daughtry's charisma, and adherence to the standards of the show, made him a likable, potential "Idol," in the cold light of a CD his true role becomes unavoidable: as the guy most likely to win a bar band contest for best Nickelback imitator. Daughtry's debut couldn't be more morbidly routine, aping any number of post-grunge Pearl Jam knockoffs from, well, Nickelback to Fuel to Hinder (whose producer co-wrote three of the songs). Daughtry seemed like a sturdy figure in the flimsy world of reality TV. But in the real world of rock, he withers. www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/story/472436p-397486c.html

I think he's doing ok with what he has coming up?
Nov 21 DAUGHTRY - GMA Nov 22 DAUGHTRY - Live with Regis & Kelly Nov 28 DAUGHTRY - Ellen DeGeneres Show Nov 28 DAUGHTRY - Jimmy Kimmel Live
I mean, it's not as good as the promo schedule that Clay had or Kat has lined up but it will still get his song, along with word of his cd being released, out there. He will also be presenting on the BBMA's and has a few other lesser known appearances that can't hurt.
Yeah, I'd like to see him do either Leno or Letterman and maybe one more daytime appearance minimum but those can come later - I'm patient hahah
It'll be interesting to see how it does - espcially with bad reviews coming in. I know it's easy to poo-poo bad reviews but they DO have an effect IMO. I know I've skipped a movie or overlooked a cd (or even checked out a cd I might not have if the review is good) based largely on a bad review (paper, internet, friends, etc).
I like the cd, I'll be buying it, so I'm happy haha
Still not a fan of Mr. Attitude himself though heh
