This is a really great project so of course its going to flop in a country that made LAFFY TAFFY, HOLLABACK GIRL, THIS IS MY I'M HOT, CANDY SHOP #1 hits. Well, most music that appeals to 13 year olds will be huge. LOL I do hope Dolores sells well, but I doubt she'll have a pop hit though.

Dolores plays Elvis Presley, Cranberries in France Dolores O’Riordan recorded two live performances yesterday in France, one for TV show Taratata and the other for RTL2 radio show “Zacoustics by Zegut.” Dolores performed two songs for the Taratata taping: Ordinary Day In the Ghetto (Elvis Presley) Dolores appeared with a black T-shirt and jeans and played guitar on “Ordinary Day.” Artists are usually asked to perform one cover song for the show. During a short interview in between songs with the show’s host, Nagui, Dolores explained, “I picked this song because, beside the fact that it’s a great Elvis song, it’s a universal song, since there’s lots of people in the world living in extreme poverty conditions.” Dolores also recorded an acoustic showcase for RTL2 radio yesterday with the songs: Ordinary Day Apple of My Eye When You’re Gone (Cranberries) In the Ghetto (Elvis Presley) Show host Zegut promises to put photos online soon. The RTL2 session will air on Thursday, May 3rd. Thanks to uridesm for the report.

Album is not about the nanny
In an edgy interview that Dolores gave in Spain this month, she denied any questions about whether songs on Are You Listening? were written about a former childminder, Joy Fahy, against whom she had a muck-slinging lawsuit in April 2004.
Her response directly conflicts with a Sunday Times report to the contrary, and indeed some of the song lyrics seem self-explanatory to that effect.
She also said that she was too busy to have heard, and therefore couldn’t have given “thumbs up” to, Noel Hogan’s solo album Mono Band. This also contradicts a tabloid report that was first posted here on Zombieguide and then copied by The Cranberries Official Website.
Here’s the interview from JenesaisPop. The full translation is after the jump.
Do you follow your fans opinion on the internet?
I don’t like computers much. I haven’t even been in myspace page. I’ve heard of it though. I wrote a letter and gave it to my manager, and he posted it. But I don’t’ know how a computer works, I don’t even know how to turn it on. I just create and wrote the songs, I love to write songs. I don’t like computers.
How are you?
Fine, and you?
Pleased to be here in Madrid. It’s such a nice day and what a wonderful view!
Yes, it’s the first warm day. A lovely weather.
Are you Irish? You’re so pale…
No, no, no, I’m from here. It’s just that I hate to have sunbaths.
Do you get burnt? Like me. I have to protect my face.
(I started giving her the bad news). Did you know your record leaked a couple of days ago?
Yes, I’ve been told.
And how does it make you feel?
It’s inevitable. I knew it would happen and it has happened. Things have changed with the internet over these years. The days when people waited for the release of a record are gone. This is happening to all the bands, that’s the way it is. It would be worst if people didn’t like the album, but it seems they do.
How do you know the album has leaked then?
Because of my manager.
Why did you choose ‘Ordinary day’, a quiet song, as a single?
The company thought it was a good song to present the album, and I agreed.
Isn’t ’When we were young’ more catchy? wouldn’t it be more successful?
I don’t know, I don’t care about which one is a single or which one is not. I just write the songs. Other people decide, they know the market better, so they pick the singles, I don’t. I’m not good choosing among my work which one is better. All songs are mine and I like them all, so actually I don’t care. The company was talking about releasing ‘When we were young’, as you said, and another one too… I don’t remember…
’October’?
No… (she thinks for a while) ‘Apple’.
Isn’t it too slow?
Yes, and very simple. But it’s so simple that it’s pretty.
The critics never accepted the simplicity of The Cranberries. People loved the songs, they had records like ‘No need to argue’ carved deep in their hearts but it never showed in the best of the 90 chart and I personally don’t get it.
Neither do I, but I wouldn’t worry so much. People have very nice memories linked to that album, to hard moments in their lives. At that time it helped many to keep on going. That’s what matters, not the fact that the critics put it down.
Do you expect better critics now? You don’t care…
I don’t think much about it. I’ve been doing this for 20 years. You write what you want, accept the critics and don’t think about it much. You can’t change it.
From 0 to 100, what are the possibilities of hearing a new Cranberries’ album?
It could happen, of course. The door is open. I don’t lock it. You never know.
Have you got the Mono Band’s album?
No, I haven’t.
Haven’t you heard the songs?
No.
Why?
I don’t have the time, I’m very busy.
Don’t you talk to Noel often?
My husband does. We used to do music together but not anymore, so what would we be talking about. He’s not a girl, we can’t talk about girl’s stuff. I would call his wife in any case. We talk about mother things, about our children…
You could talk about music, since you are writing music without him for the first time…
I wouldn’t talk about my music with him now, I think that the one I have to talk to about it is you, the press, the media, but I’m not going to ask a musician if he likes my album. If we met, we would talk, but we live in different cities and we are busy taking care of our children, we never see each other.
The break sounds then a little bit worst that it seemed, if you don’t even keep in touch.
Not at all! We haven’t separated, it’s just a break.
Over this years death has been present in your career and it shows in your new songs. You’ve written several songs about religion, have you become more conservative?
Yes, everybody gets more conservative with the pass of time. But I don’t fight myself anymore as I did when I was young. I’ve learn to accept myself. And you? You are in your 30’s, aren’t you?
No, not yet, I’m 27.
When you pass the 30’s, you look back and realize that you have to accept yourself, you can’t be always fighting to yourself. Take life easy.
This is the first time we see you with the hair so long, It seems you left behind your androgynous look. Why?
I’m busy with my children and I haven’t got the time to get it cut. Motherhood is hard work. If your hair is short you have to cut it every four weeks, so having it long is much easier.
Talking about your children, it seems that there are several songs about your nanny in the album.
I don’t have a nanny.
Not now, I mean, your former nanny.
If you are talking about the nanny that brought charges against me, there’s no song about her.
There was a new that said you were writing songs about your nanny, and I thought they might be ‘In the garden’, ‘Loser’ or ‘Accept Things’.
Gossip, no, it wasn’t true.
How is it that you decided to incorporate Irish music to your sound in ‘Human spirit’?
I play the “tin whistle” because I think it goes well with the song.
Do you think the result is similar to the Corrs or it has nothing to do with them?
Well, they use the “tin whistle” too, so it may sound similar because it’s the same instrument.
Why aren’t there any of the songs you’ve sung for Angelo Badalamenti in the album?
Because when I work with Angelo, I work with Angelo, and when I do my own album, I do my own album. Angelo is a genius in my opinion. I love ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Terciopelo azul’, and I wanted to work with him because of that. I was so lucky to be able to work with him and that he wanted to work with me as well.
Are you interested un movies, making soundtracks…?
Yes, and now it’s easier, because I can work in my studio at home.
And what about being an actress? It’s been said that you wanted to set up a musical with AC/DC.Well, it’s true that I talked to Brian Johnson one night in a restaurant about it, we drank a lot that night but at the end nothing came up. Maybe too much alcohol involved. It would be great if we did it, sometimes you talk about these things without taking them seriously, you never know if it’ll come up or not. You know, someday maybe. About being an actress, maybe when I’m older. Now I’m busy with this.
Are you ready for the tour? Are you going to play Cranberries’ songs?
I may play some old songs because fans like to hear them.
Do you like to play them?
Yes, why not, one or another. Possibly the hits, of course.
Which Cranberries records do you remember best and worst?
I remember them all. They all had good things and bad things. In everyone I dealt with people I liked and which people I didn’t. Life’s like this.
Are you particularly fond of any?
Of this one now, it’s very special to me.
You artists always say that the current one is the best.
It’s where you are now, no need to look back. This album is more about my ‘now’.
Musically speaking, what were your influences in this record? ‘October’ sounds a little bit like Coldplay… even though actually Coldplay came after The Cranberries.
I don’t listen to music a lot, I don’t have the time. I can’t judge my work nor compare it to other artists’, I leave it to the press. But thanks, I love Coldplay.
‘Loser’ reminds Morrissey a little. Do you like him or the passion for The Smiths was the boy’s thing?
No, I love Morrissey.
How would you sum up ‘Are you listening’? Is it a happy or a sad album?
It’s an album about my experiences in the last four years. And I hope you like it.

Real New Yorkers Know: 5 Questions for Dolores
The Real New Yorkers Know blog has posted a “short and sweet” (in her own words) e-mail interview with Dolores O’Riordan. Here’s what she had to say… or rather, type:
Five Questions for Dolores O’Riordan
We got to ask Dolores O’Riordan five questions about her first solo album. Her voice shocked us with its beauty and power in The Cranberries and it’s still as moving on Are You Listening?. Her singing complements an album of great songs with a strong mix of rock and Irish folk influences. The first single, “Ordinary Day,” is already getting hype without an official release (it’s out in April). No New York tour dates have been announced, but in the meantime she let us e-mail her some questions. In Dolores’ words, she kept it “short and sweet. Just like a real New Yorker!”
RNYK: How would you describe Are You Listening for fans?
DO: I would love to say “like nothing I have ever done before as a whole”. Very experimental and verging into the darkness on on little bit. So far I have done around 90-100 interviews and it’s the first time everyone likes it. (The cd)
RNYK: How has the reaction to the single, “Ordinary Day,” been so far?
DO: People like the positive vibe in “Ordinary Day,” but it’s also on on little melancholic.
RNYK: What post-Cranberries performance has been your favorite so far?
DO: I’ve not performed a show as of yet.
RNYK: What’s your best memory of performing in New York?
DO: Woodstock 94
RNYK: What show would you kill to put on? By that we mean: Where are you singing, who will you sing with, who’s the backing band, what do you perform…
DO: This one, These people, These songs. Very exciting way to go, musically.

wow that Spanish interview was sort of edgy...wonder why Dolores has so little contact with her ex bandmates. Sort of sounds like they arent on such great terms. You would think there would be some contact with all of them doing solo projects.

article about dolores on ask billboard!www.billboard.com/bbcom/ask_bb/index.jspCranberries Solo Please! Keith, I just read that Cranberries' singer Dolores O'Riordan will be releasing her first solo album on May 15 in North America. I heard the first single on her MySpace page and it is really great. I was wondering what you think her chances of having any success in North America are? Also, how many albums have the Cranberries sold in the U.S.? Thanks so much! Ryan Gibson Toronto Hi Ryan, Indeed, Dolores O'Riordan's solo debut, "Are You Listening?," will arrive in the U.S. on May 15 through Sanctuary Records. In Europe it streets on May 7 while Japan and Australia get the album on May 12. The set was written and recorded over the past four years and is led by the first single, "Ordinary Day." The song, written about the birth of her third child, has yet to impact U.S. radio. For the week ending March 19, no monitored American stations had played the song. What are the album's chances for success? Well, not having radio play your song is a bit worrisome. Though, there is still a sizable gap of time between now and when the album arrives, so things could brighten up for the single. The Cranberries' last studio album, 2001's "Wake Up and Smell the Coffee," has sold 170,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. In 2002, the band also released "Stars - The Best of 1992-2002." It has sold 322,000 in America. The group is best known for its numerous early and mid-'90s hits like "Dreams," "Linger" and "Zombie." Those three tunes all made the top 20 on Billboard's Alternative/Modern Rock chart while the act also scored five more top 20 hits. The Cranberries' best selling album is 1994's "No Need To Argue," which has sold 4.1 million in the U.S. The previous year's set, "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" has shifted 3.2 million. 1996's "To The Faithful Departed" has sold 1.7 million while 1999's "Bury The Hatchet" has moved 377,000.

Dolores O’Riordan will be the covergirl for the April 2nd issue of Italian magazine XL. According to Pubblicita: The singer tells XL the details of the personal crisis that gave her the will to go away from the spotlight in order to dedicate herself to her family, her humanitarian engagement, the difficulty of being a rockstar, her relationship with faith and her “rebirth” thanks to her passion for music.
