Queen of Rock is flying solo at last... www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002158072Garbage's Shirley Manson Flying Solo March 14, 2006, 11:00 AM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. With Garbage on a hiatus of undetermined length, frontwoman Shirley Manson has begun work on her first solo album. The artist tells Billboard.com she recently completed a track with U.K. film composer David Arnold, with whom she collaborated on the theme song for the 1999 James Bond film "The World Is Not Enough." "I just went to London last week and we wrote a song together," she says. "It was really quick and fast and it was really good fun." Manson admits with a laugh that beginning to write with other people is "scary and really exciting and super-freaky. It feels really weird to talk about it!" Manson says she has no timetable for completing the project and is more interested in enjoying herself. "I've got no timetable. I'm sort of sick of timetables, to be honest," she says. "I just want to live my life a little freely and not adhere to any schedule -- just make music and have fun." The artist acknowledges Garbage fans were confused by the mixed messages surrounding the start of the band's hiatus last fall, but insists, "We're still together, absolutely. We all feel like we want to go off and do a variety of things. [Drummer] Butch [Vig] is going back into production and some other guys are working on film soundtracks." "Being the chaotic bunch we are, we should have put a press release together but we didn't," she adds. "We were quite taken aback by how big a deal was made of it. But we love each other and we still want to work together. We're just taking a break. We've had a crazy decade." yay!

Been waiting for this since Garbage's debut!! She's such an amazing talent and I'd love to see what she could do on her own.

Thank goodness, it will be great to have an awesome female artist like Shirley put out a solo album; I am sure Shirley won't dumb herself down like other female artists.

wow, some actual news regarding this: She's working with Jack White & Billy Corgan on her album! www.sundaymail.co.uk/entertainment/showbiz/tm_headline=shirley%2Ds-all-stars%26method=full%26objectid=18008443 %26siteid=64736-name_page.html 29 October 2006 SHIRLEY'S ALL STARS SINGER SIGNS A-LIST PALS FOR SOLO CD Edited By Billy Sloan SCOTS superstar Shirley Manson is secretly lining up an A-list team for her first solo album. The Garbage singer wants stunning tunes for her debut - and has recruited the biggest names in music to help. White Stripes star Jack White, Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan and The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan are all on board, as is award-winning movie composer David Arnold, who collaborated with Garbage on 1999's James Bond theme The World Is Not Enough. Yesterday, Paul revealed how he met up with Shirley at his Glasgow flat to work on ideas for the album, due out in 2007. He said: "I knew Shirley's work from her days in Scottish bands Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Angel Fish and had heard the records she'd made with Garbage. "But we'd never met so I couldn't believe it when this rather formal email arrived saying, 'Dear Mr. Buchanan...' Advertisement Click here to find out more! "The fact Shirley was motivated to ask me to write songs made it worth pursuing. "I was worried my music wouldn't fit in with the rocky stuff Jack White and Billy Corgan would come up with but Shirley said, 'Don't worry, I want you to do what you do'. "Sometimes the unlikeliest combinations work best - it gets you out the comfort zone." Paul and Shirley will meet in December to record tracks for the CD. Before then, he has a Scottish tour which includes gigs at Aberdeen's Music Hall on November 24, Edinburgh's Usher Hall (25 and 26) and Perth City Hall (27). Paul has also written songs with Euryth-mics' Annie Lennox and duetted with Sharleen Spiteri on Texas' hit single Sleep. He said: "I made a conscious effort to write the songs from Shirley's perspective. "It only took five minutes to compose them but I'd had six weeks to come up with ideas. "It was a similar experience to when I worked with Annie. Like Shirley, she made it easy to be in the room and wanted a bit of company - in a music sense - after working for so long with Dave Stewart. "Shirley was also keen to bounce ideas off different people after taking a break from Garbage." But which Scots female rock star would Paul next like to add to his impressive CV? He said: "It would be great to write for K.T. Tunstall. The bits of her music I've heard so far have been good." I'm not really obsessed with Garbage anymore; however, I am anticipating this album. I just hope it's nothing terribly conventional. I don't want meat & potatoes rock; I don't want a stripped down acoustic album; I certainly don't want an MTV oriented modern pop album. I just want something unique and truly awesome. She can totally do it. She just has to drop any preconceived notions of what her project should be. We don't want another "America's Sweetheart", ha.

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking that this might be beautifulgarbage 2, but the involvement of Jack White and Billy Corgan is encouraging.

I don't see the need to start a whole new thread, but Garbage officially will be releasing their GH in March:
Set for release on March 19th on Warner Bros.
With 12-million sales since they burst onto the music scene with their self-titled 1995 debut album, Garbage are set to issue their ‘best of’ collection ‘Absolute Garbage’ on March 19th on Warner Bros.
The compilation features Garbage hits such as ‘Stupid Girl’, ‘Why Do You Love Me’, ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’, ‘Push It’ and ‘When I Grow Up’ as well as fan favourites such as ‘Only Happy When It Rains’, ‘Vow’ and ‘Queer’.
The album will be preceded by the release of a new single on March 5th.
Led by the iconic figure of Shirley Manson, Garbage have enjoyed phenomenal success with albums such as ‘Garbage’ (1995), ‘Version 2.0’ (1998), ‘Beautiful Garbage’ (2001) and ‘Bleed Like Me’ (2005).
Garbage have also forged a reputation as one of the strongest live bands around having toured with U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alanis Morissette to name but a few. Performances at Glastonbury, Reading, Download and T In The Park have also established Garbage as one of the favourites of the UK festival circuit.
The full tracklisting is:
1. Vow 2. Queer 3. Only Happy When It Rains 4. Stupid Girl 5. Milk 6. #1 Crush 7. Push It 8. I Think I’m Paranoid 9. Special 10. When I Grow Up 11. You Look So Fine 12. The World Is Not Enough 13. Cherry Lips 14. Shut Your Mouth 15. Why Do You Love Me 16. Bleed Like Me 17. It’s All Over But The Crying
I was hoping for a new track. News of this started to leak yesterday afternoon, but fans were reluctant to receive the news, as it was assumed it was just another unqualified rumor. But it's true this time.

People are speculating IAOBTC. But NME mentioned a remixed , unreleased track.
I really hope something we haven't heard from the BLM sessions is used as the single. I LOVE IAOBTC, but it doesn't seem anything appropriate to lead off a GH with. I always thought it would have been a good final BLM single.

Apparently, there will be more enticing releases for fans, as well.
from the trashtalk list:
I can confirm this, and a few other details:
1 CD
1 Enhanced CD
1 Mix CD
1 DVD containing *all* videos
The exact track lists, the inclusion of a new song, and the combinations of discs have yet to be decided. The release dates are correct. We should have artwork soon.
Garbage.com will have more details shortly.
That sounds promising!

I am too, but it's because neither one did well, despite being fan favorites.
I would argue that Androgyny should be included. It flopped in the US & UK but did well in Europe, Australia, and South America. As did BUTG...but Shirley hates that song now, so it'll never be included haha
