TV Best Bets for Saturday, December 16
The Return of Courtney Love 10:00 PM Eastern- VH1 This new documentary from VH1 follows the controversial Courtney Love's career -- from her humble beginnings as an actor in 1980s Los Angeles, to her first band in Minneapolis, to her stint as a stripper in Alaska and finally back to L.A., where she started her punk band, Hole. A year after Hole's formation, Love married Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain; drugs led to Cobain's death, leaving Love to raise their daughter Frances Bean alone. In recent years, despite some success in movies ("Man in the Moon," "The People vs. Larry Flynt"), Love seemed on a downward spiral. Lately, however, a freshly rehabbed Love seems to have cleaned up her act. Will it last?

QCourtney wants Ewan for Cobain biopicFollowing the news that the long-rumoured Kurt Cobain film is finally to be made, rights-holder Courtney Love has apparently got someone in mind to play the lead - Ewan McGregor. An insider on the film told the Daily Express, "A number of actors have been talked about the role but Ewan has emerged as the number one choice." This wouldn't be the first time McGregor portrayed a rock icon on screen: he played a (very)thinly-disguised Iggy Pop in 1998's glam-rock drama Velvet Goldmine. Ewan for Cobain? What do you think?

www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,248040,00.html Courtney Love's New Album Could Be a Masterpiece You didn't think we'd heard the last of Courtney Love, did you? Not a chance. She has had a wild life with many tabloid ups and downs, but Courtney is a keeper. She has just signed with Hollywood's hot management company, The Firm, to represent her for the sale of her new album. As yet untitled, this album β which I've played about four times this weekend β could be judged a masterpiece when it finally finds a label and a release date. It's Courtney's "Broken English" (Marianne Faithful), "Horses" (Patti Smith) and "Hotel California" (The Eagles) all rolled into one. Personally, I would suggest calling the CD "Nobody's Daughter" after my favorite song on the disc, a thoughtful dismissal of Love's self-aggrandizing mother. But there are plenty of wonderful tracks to choose from, all produced and co-written with Linda Perry, the genius writer-producer from 4 Non Blondes who put Pink and Christina Aguilera on the map. For one thing, this album is not a rant. It's a vivid meditation on fame, on Courtney's personal battles and on life in the fast lane that almost turned into her funeral. Perry makes sure to keep the screeching to nil and emphasizes Courtney's clever, witty and scathing lyrics counterpointed by her husky intonations. Success in any art is chemistry, and here the formula works like crazy. Watch for Courtney to make a huge comeback this summer when the album is released. She is clean and sober, she has turned into a good mother and she has exorcised the demons that plagued her β to a degree. We wouldn't want rockers without demons, after all. But this album, with California-centric songs like "PCH" and "Sunset Marquis" threatening to turn her into the new millennium rock version of Joan Didion, should turn out to be a watershed for both her and Perry. Bravo!

Us MagazineUs Exclusive: Paula Being Replaced? Courtney Love Confirms She's Been Called for American IdolTUESDAY JANUARY 30, 2007Simon, Paula, Randy and ... Courtney??? Hold on to your remotes, Idolites, because legendary rock idol Courtney Love tells Usmagazine.com exclusively that American Idol wants her! Love reveals to her favorite magazine Web site that Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called her office last week inquiring into whether she would be interested in sitting in as a judge on the hit FOX show. "He called," Love tells Usmagazine.com. "He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant." Is FOX lining up a replacement for slap-happy Paula Abdul, or just looking to spice up the show with the always-entertaining rocker/actress? Love, who is currently in L.A. recording a solo album, declined to reveal any more specific details. But a source tells Usmagazine.com that Lythgoe was considering having Love "replace Paula." American Idol reps could not immediately be reached for comment. Talk to Us: Do you think Courtney would make a good AI judge?

Mar 9, 9:10 PM EST Courtney Love Sued by Rehab Center
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- A drug rehabilitation center has sued Courtney Love, claiming the singer has repeatedly refused to pay her $181,000 bill for her stay there 1 1/2 years ago. The lawsuit, filed March 1 in Orange County Superior Court, said Love paid $10,000 when she entered Beau Monde, an oceanfront retreat in Newport Beach, in August 2005, but she still owes $181,286.
"Although demanded multiple times by plaintiff, orally and in writing, none of the balance stated has been paid," the lawsuit said.
Love's attorney, Howard Weitzman, said Friday the lawsuit "will be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties shortly."
A phone message left for Beau Monde's attorney was not immediately returned.
Love, 42, the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and former frontwoman of the rock band Hole, has battled substance abuse and said in December she would remain committed to her sobriety.
In September 2005, Love was sentenced to 180 days at a drug treatment facility for violating probation in three misdemeanor cases - one for illegal possession of painkillers, one for being under the influence of a controlled substance in public, and another for assault and battery.
Some of her time - about 11 weeks - was spent at Beau Monde, according to court documents.
The facility describes its mission on its Web site as helping "very successful, high profile individuals who are struggling with substance abuse, addictions, compulsive behavior, burnout, and other life/health issues." Guests are treated to gourmet meals, yoga and massages, and are allowed to leave the center for field trips such as golfing and hiking.
The three misdemeanor cases were dismissed by a judge who also terminated her probation.

Slim Courtney Love Says She's Lost 44 Lbs. THURSDAY MARCH 29, 2007 03:00 PM EST
Reporting by Elizabeth Leonard and Pete Norman People Magazine
Courtney Love got the Internet buzzing Wednesday when she appeared dramatically slimmed down in a batch of beach photos β and now she says she's lost 44 pounds.
In a posting on Love's Web site, Moonwashedrose.com, she writes under the name "court" that she "lost 44 pounds with 6 more maybe 11 more to go."
A rep for the onetime Hole singer confirms that Love indeed wrote the post and says Love is following a macrobiotic diet, eating lots of vegetables and fish, and doing yoga and exercise to meet her weight-loss goals.
Love also writes openly about having had a nose job, saying that she has her "old nose" back. "I hated that nosejobby nose, it was like a little beak," she writes. Now, she says, she had had her nose "fixed." "[It] looks like the one god gave me so im happy not to have crazy lips and a crazy teensy unnatural little nose."
She adds, "All i care about is that my self esteem is [limitless] and intact, and that nothing and no situation effects my self esteem."
It was only last October that Love was touting her sobriety of more than a year. At the time she said Mel Gibson helped her into rehab and that now her focus would be on raising her 14-year-old daughter, Frances Bean (with late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain), and staging a comeback.
"I always thought I'd be that girl that lives with no regrets," Love told Billboard magazine. "I have regrets. I've written so many amends letters, I can't even count them. It's still not enough. Drugs make you an a?hole."

Courtney Love Denies Gastric-Band Surgery FRIDAY APRIL 13, 2007 10:30 AM EDT
By Emily Fromm
Courtney Love is denying rumors that her recent dramatic weight loss is the result of gastric-band surgery.
"I couldn't get that surgery if I begged for it," she writes on her Web site, moonwashedrose.com, the New York Daily News reports. "I got my inspiration from Oprah losing so much weight on Slim-Fast."
(Winfrey actually lost weight in 1988 on a medically supervised liquid diet using a supplement called Optifast.)
Love, 42, got the Internet buzzing last month when she appeared noticeably thinner in photos of her vacationing in Hawaii in a bikini. She wrote on her Web site that she'd "lost 44 pounds with 6 more maybe 11 more to go."
A rep for the onetime Hole singer told PEOPLE that Love is following a macrobiotic diet, eating lots of vegetables and fish, doing yoga and exercising to meet her weight-loss goals.
But on Thursday the New York Post's Page Six quoted a source as saying Love was "telling people she got the gastric band surgery." Love's rep told the paper: "Not true. She says she never got surgery."
In her most recent Web post, Love also writes that she knows who will play herself and her late husband in an upcoming Kurt Cobain biopic, "but cannot say. Very high-end and very A-list."

Courtney Love Insists Diet, Not Surgery, Made Her 52 lbs. Slimmer WEDNESDAY APRIL 18, 2007 08:30 AM EDT
By Scott Huver
Newly svelte Courtney Love stepped out in a pair of skinny designer pants at a Beverly Hills bash, telling PEOPLE that exercise and diet β not surgery - helped her drop 52 lbs.
"I didn't have a scar for gastric [bypass]. I'm not eligible for that. It's illegal for me to get that. You have to be 100 pounds overweight, you have to be grossly obese," Love said Monday night at a private party for the HBO documentary Helmet by June, executive produced by Brett Ratner.
She also scoffed at the notion of having had liposuction: "What, I'm going to liposuction my fingers? My hands are smaller!"
Rumors about how Love lost the weight started up last month when photos of her in a bikini hit the Web. But she says she was inspired to drop the weight late last year after seeing the scale reach 182 lbs. and a photograph of herself with her stomach hanging out. Plus, she was facing a fashion shoot for Italian Vogue.
"They Photoshopped me," she says. "I couldn't fit into anything, all the backs had to be cut out, and I was like, 'I'm gonna fit into sample size, dammit!' And that was my New Year's resolution."
The singer says she's dropped the 52 lbs. since Dec. 21, starting out drinking 1,200-calorie Isopure shakes during the day and eating fish and vegetables at night. She also added a fitness routine that incorporated running on a treadmill, Pilates and yoga. She also had her breast implants removed. "I just quietly did it, you know?" she says.
Love was able to reach her goal of fitting into the designer clothes she craved, and she showed off her first victorious style item at the Men's Vogue-sponsored party - the pants she was wearing. "They're Todd Lynn, they're sample size, they're from the runway."

Courtney Love Says She Was Addicted to 'Perfection' FRIDAY APRIL 20, 2007 09:15 AM EDT
By Pete Norman
Courtney Love says she used to be addicted to the idea of physical perfection - but she's kicked the habit.
"[The] addiction to the idea of 'perfection' has infested my life in the past and I'm over it," she writes on her moonwashedrose.com Web site. "It's never, thank God, infected my music but it has affected my outward appearance and self-esteem."
In a rambling, typo-strewn, 1,000-word early morning posting on her discussion board, Love talks about her weight, Buddhism, being a "Beverly Hills mom housewife who likes to tour" and her healing chants for a computer hacker who tried to blackmail her.
"I seriously feel like a caged lion who has been in her cage way too long," writes Love, 42, who has been working on a new album and hopes to play concerts in Los Angeles, New York City and London in June. "But I need to clean up this old reputation and these guys all love the record but I need them to see I'm not off the rails anymore."
Love's appearance became a hot topic among online blogs after she was photographed looking newly svelte in Hawaii last month. Her rep said she'd lost the weight by following a macrobiotic diet and exercising.
But critics soon claimed she'd undergone gastric-bypass surgery, which she denied on her Web site. And on Monday, at a party for the HBO documentary Helmet by June, she told PEOPLE she'd dropped 52 lbs. by drinking 1,200-calorie Isopure shakes during the day, eating fish and vegetables at night, running on a treadmill and doing Pilates and yoga.
In her latest Web post, Love again addresses the weight issue. "I see these pics and something must be wrong with me 'cos I know what I weigh and I still don't feel quite thin enough," she writes. "I'm going to go for 10 more pounds and then I'll maintain at that.
"I'm doing weight training and Pilates and more tough stuff so I can tone more. You lose this much weight and get saggy skin and I'm in no mood for saggy anything, thank you very much," she adds. "So I need to firm up and get my butt in shape and tummy and arms, and do the heavy lifting. ... I'm a rock star and my job isn't to be perfect."
Love, who acknowledges the difficulties her publicist faces each time she writes something controversial, says she hopes to help others if she can.
"I'm really determined to be a source of strength and inspiration to anyone who's really been to the bottom of hell and lived to tell and come back again," she writes, "as an integrated whole person who celebrates my own flaws and is non-judgmental of others' wounds or craziness."

Album title changes, or so it seems... Courtney Love to auction Kurt Cobain's belongingsThe singer also names her new album Courtney Love is set to auction off Kurt Cobain's belongings. The former Hole frontwoman is planning to sell the Nirvana frontman's belonging at auction house Christie's. Love said: "I'm going to have a Christie's auction. (My house) is like a mausoleum. My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant hefty bag full of flannel fucking shirts... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' - that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just fucking sell. "We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity." Explaining that Cobain was still a dominant influence in Love's life, she said: "I still wear his pyjamas to bed. How am I ever going to form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pyjamas?" Love also said that her new album would be called 'Nobody's Daughter'. Explaining the title, she said: "I think the title just says it all. I'm not pouting. I'm not playing anything up. I don't have parents that I acknowledge. I'm nobody's daughter. I'm nobody's wife. I'm nobody's bitch. "I'm nobody's daughter. I'm nobody's widow. I'm somebody's mother. Other than that, I don't identify with these other female roles I'm supposed to have." No release date for the album has been announced, reports Spinner.

Courtney Love: Shoe Ads With Kurt Are 'Outrageous' WEDNESDAY MAY 23, 2007 08:00 PM EDT By Mike Fleeman Courtney Love is lashing out at Dr. Martens shoes for featuring her late husband Kurt Cobain in an advertisement. "Courtney had no idea this was taking place and would never have approved such a use," her rep tells PEOPLE. "She thinks it's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture." The ad, apparently running only in the United Kingdom (see it below), shows Cobain wearing black Dr. Martens boots, draped in an angelic robe and sitting on a heavenly cloud. In the corner, it reads: "Dr. Martens. Forever." The ad for the shoes, part of the company's AirWair line, is for a recent campaign featuring several dead rock stars, including Sid Vicious from The Sex Pistols and Joey Ramone from The Ramones. The ad is apparently not running in the United States. "It does appear that in the UK what Dr. Martens has done is allowed," says Love's rep. "Courtney did not, and would not, approve of such a use of Kurt's name and likeness." Dr. Martens's U.S. office did not immediately return calls for comment. Love and Cobain married in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean, now 14. Cobain committed suicide with a shotgun at the couple's Seattle home in 1994, and Love, who has never remarried, has said that she now wants to sell most of his possessions. As for the proceeds of the sale, "Most will go to charity since the money isn't what I'm that interested in, but it's really an exchange of energy," she has written on her Web site. "Obviously we'll keep more than enough of his stuff - his monkey collection - things that mattered to him for Franny and her family."

Courtney Love Forced to Quit Smoking FRIDAY JUNE 01, 2007 11:10 AM EDT
By Pete Norman People Magazine
After years of smoking, Courtney Love now has doctor's orders to quit, she writes on her Web site.
Love, 42, says her doctor recently discovered pre-op nodules in her throat. "He guessed exactly how much I smoke too and told me I'll have to get surgery," she writes.
The former Hole singer, who recently lost 52 lbs., says that when she quits, she expects to gain the weight back: "I need to stop unless ... I want surgery in a year, and two or three days off on tour is not economically feasible, so my thin phase is gonna go soon."
Other singers who have undergone surgery for throat nodules - benign growths on the vocal cords - include Julie Andrews and Rod Stewart. Justin Timberlake reportedly went under the knife in May 2005.
Love, who has been recording the new album Nobody's Daughter, says she'll appear onstage at the House of Blues in Los Angeles Friday night alongside Linda Perry, who produced the album.
"I truly, deeply, madly love Linda Perry who seems to never, ever be wrong when it comes to me," she writes. "My soulmate when it comes to songwriting ... I love her sooo much."

Courtney Love 'Going Through Hell' to Quit Smoking FRIDAY JUNE 15, 2007 12:15 PM EDT
By Pete Norman People Magazine
Following doctor's orders that she stop smoking, Courtney Love has already cut her nicotine consumption in half - to 20 cigarettes a day.
"I'm going thru hell trying to cut back on smoking," Love writes on her Web site. "I'm down to a pack a day from two, but it's a pain and each fight of the urge is a little mini war."
Love, 42, recently revealed on her blog that her doctor had discovered pre-op nodules in her throat. "He guessed exactly how much I smoke too and told me I'll have to get surgery," she wrote.
Now, she says, "[I'm] trying to get to half a pack a day and then quit when I get to 10." The former Hole singer, who has conquered heroin addiction, adds: "I think of all I've been through and I can do this."
She's certainly not lacking for willpower: She's shed more than 50 lbs. this year thanks to healthy eating and yoga, and says her diet now includes whey shakes, Kyo green tea, flax seed and omega 3 oil.
In her latest post, Love - the mother of daughter Frances Bean, 14 - dismisses a report that she's wasting away. "I noted - 'cos my kid bought it - I was on the cover of The National Enquirer AND THEY SAID I WAS 115 [lbs.]! I couldn't walk if I was 115," she writes, adding: "I'm a big girl with big shoulders and ribs and health is really important to me. Hugely."

Courtney Love Plans New Movie...
A new movie about Kurt Cobain is in the works, based on the book "Heavier Than Heaven". The project is being headed by Courtney Love, who bought the film rights for the biography that was written by Charles Cross. As of now, Love says the film is in an emryonic stage with "no script and no director attached, let alone stars". According to an insider, Ewan McGregor has been noted as a top choice by Love, but he is yet to be confirmed for the role.
Kurt Cobain could soon be immortalised in an authorised film about his life.
The former Nirvana frontman's widow Courtney Love has bought the rights to adapt Charles Cross' biography of the musician.
Courtney Love is reportedly in talks with several studios to bring Heavier Than Heaven to the big screen.
Love has confirmed that the film project is "in an embryonic stage." She has posted the following message on a fansite, MoonwashedRose.com, that the film "has no script and no director attached, let alone stars."
But she added that "it will of course be (an) A list and high end film."
If the production gets off the ground, it will be the first official film about Cobain's life, his genre-defining band Nirvana, and his relationship with Love.
"Last Days", the 2005 film by Gus Van Sant is widely thought to have been an unauthorised biopic about Cobain.
