Billboard:
ARTIST: DARREN HAYES
SINGLE: STEP INTO THE LIGHT
Savage Garden main man Darren Hayes' new solo album, "This Delicate Thing We've Made," was previewed in the United States at a series of sold-out live showcases where response was nothing less than manic. While the double album is as diverse as the seasons, first single "Step Into the Light" is a joyous dance-floor steamer, complete with 11 diverse mixes offering radio, club and dub rubs. Pezza perhaps prompts the ultimate full-body flop sweat, hurling Hayes' falsetto, mungo chorus and thwacking percussion above the clouds. Hayes' project joyously transcends all genres -- and an adult contemporary release with the enduring moxie of "Truly Madly Deeply" is imminent -- but as a reminder of Hayes' versatile melodic bootprint, "Light" is a hell of a celebratory beacon.

I am loving "Step Into The Light." It's a such a great song. This one is just beginning to take off on the club charts and on dance radio.
Darren is beginning a club tour in the U.S.
And PerfectBeat.com has the CD maxi single which has the Tony Moran and Moto Blanco remixes. The Moran mix is a dramatic, piano-based, tribal mix and Moto Blanco's is a nice disco throwback.

Darren is amazing... No, he's not amazing, he is PERFECT. The best male popstar at the moment! He has a beautiful voice, fantastic songs with honest lyrics, he is sexy, funny and he loves music so much! He's got EVERYTHING it takes to become one of the greatest artists of our generation. He's just great. There, I said it! ;)

Thanks,

I hope this does at least marginally well here.
I am attempting to import my copy, but if that falls through I'll go out and pick it up.

Singer Darren Hayes arrested Email Print Normal font Large font Julia May in London August 22, 2007
Darren Hayes β¦ accused of racial abuse.
The former frontman of Savage Garden, Darren Hayes, has been arrested for an alleged racist attack on a waiter at a Thai restaurant in London.
Hayes fronted police in London last Friday night, where he was arrested for racially abusing a member of staff at Busaba Eathai in Wardour Street on July 22. The attack did not involve physical violence, but is believed to have been directed at a male member of staff.
Hayes was released on bail.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 35-year-old man was arrested by Westminster police on suspicion of racially abusing a member of staff.
"He was arrested after voluntarily attending a Central London police station by appointment. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries, until the 21st of September."
The spokesman would not comment further.
A manager at the Soho restaurant, who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident and said that it involved a verbal attack by Hayes on a member of staff.
He said restaurant staff reported the incident to police, who took statements on July 23. He said the victim had returned to work, and the matter was now being left in the hands of police.
The incident follows Hayes's public criticism of the Prime Minister, John Howard, on a visit to Australia a week ago, for his stance on homosexuality.
Hayes hit out at the need for his partner, Richard Cullen, who he married in London last year, to fly to Australia on a tourist visa.
"It makes me angry and frustrated," Hayes told News Ltd newspapers. "I'm Australian and the way the law sits I can't bring my partner home as my partner.
"That to me is an infringement of my civil rights - a very un-Australian thing.
"I would never have voted for John Howard and I encourage people not to. I don't think he speaks for this country in the same way I don't think George Bush speaks for the US."

iTunes has it for $19.99. A tad expensive. I hope this does at least marginally well here. I am attempting to import my copy, but if that falls through I'll go out and pick it up. Are you outside of the U.S.? If not, the U.S. Amazon store has it for $14.99 (plus shipping).

No, I'm not outside the US, but I want the cool limited edition packaging, which, for whatever reason, got no US release. It's not that much more expensive, so I'm giving it a shot. But like I said, if it doesn't look promising I'll just get the domestic copy later.

Entertainment Weekly said it was "getting ready for a night out" music. that peaked my interest. $19.99 though??? :( Considering that import editions through Amazon cost in the $40 to $50 price range, $19.99 is a bargain. According to Froogle.com, the album can be purchased for as little as $13.95.

Here's the price range through Froogle for the limited one. Best Buy is selling the regular one for $14.99. The local ones don't have it. They also have the Limited one for $32.99. Considering that import editions through Amazon cost in the $40 to $50 price range, $19.99 is a bargain. According to Froogle.com, the album can be purchased for as little as $13.95. Never buy imports from Amazon unless you're desperate. Their prices are always way jacked up. I buy from the individual sellers if that is a possibility. I recently bought an out of print album which Amazon was selling for $55.99! I bought it from some guy for just $4 (plus $2.95 shipping) and it was completely unopened.

I like the video for "On the Verge of Something Wonderful." It's fun, and reminds me of many classic 80's graphic-intensive videos.

My cheap import fell through (the old "if it seems too good to be true" deal) but I picked this up late last week and have been enjoying it. Some songs work better than others but overall I am pleased.

Check out the Wayne G & Andy Allder's Totally 80's Mix of "On The Verge Of Something Wonderful." It's basically a meatier extended version.

Billboard review:
This Delicate Thing We've Made DARREN HAYES Producer(s): Darren Hayes, Justin Shave Genre: POP Label: Powdered Sugar
Darren Hayes' double-disc "This Delicate Thing We've Made" is a momentous spiritual tour de force, an undressed lyrical exploration of a soul reborn, tucked into a labyrinth of sonic textures. After publicly coming out and revealing details of a tumultuous childhood, Hayes shears the velvet veneer of hits like "Truly Madly Deeply," often conjuring frenetic, nervous dance beats and such telling titles as "A Fear of Falling Under" and "A Conversation With God." But all is not dark: Melodic moxie springs forth via "The Sun Is Always Blinding Me" and "Listen All You People," as plush ballads "Maybe" and "Words" further soften spiked edges. Fans have the clear choice to simply sing along to the surface or look beyond the beats to see inside a man in his 30s who has triumphed in a tug of war with demons. βChuck Taylor
