Just checked out the pop gold chart and "Barbie Girl" by Aqua rose from 1304 to 24. What's with the 180+ spin gain?

They were doing it for some kind of donation event or something. My friend in Rochester told me about it. They kept playing it over and over

LOL... what did the good people of Rochester do to deserve that kind of torture? Hey, at least they didn't have to listen to "In Da Club" or "I Love You Always Forever" or "Lean Back" over and over again.

This is definitely one of the better novelty songs, although that many times is a bit excessive. Good tactic though, Mariah's record company might be taking notes.

I was worried this meant they were going to change formats.
103.9 in Phoenix played "We Like To Party" for 24 straight hours when they flipped from alternative to CHR/Rhythmic on December 31, 1999.
Personally, I like both songs. :)

Mega 103.5 played Turn the Beat Around by Gloria Estefan many times before becoming The Beat. I remember, right before Chicago's Z95 changed format to simulcast with its AM sister station WLS-AM, they played "Everybody's Talkin'" by Nilsson. They didn't play it for 24 straight hours, though. That's overkill.

I actually remember this being the original Vickie Sue Robinson version.
That was moderately clever. But what's with the "Barbie Girl" in Rochester? Was the charity function affilliated with Mattel?

If you think that is bad, this station in my hometown played one song from the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack non-stop before changing formats.
And, in a kind of strange turn of events, the new station was Rock...

But what's with the "Barbie Girl" in Rochester? Was the charity function affilliated with Mattel? I doubt it. Remember, Mattel HATES this song -- they tried suing Aqua and their record label for damages. Earlier this year, Mattel tried taking the case to the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court refused to hear it.

And, in a kind of strange turn of events, the new station was Rock... Argh! That whole soundtrack sucks. The song wasn't "You Are My Sunshine", was it? That's the worst song from that CD, since I don't like that song in the first place and the guy singing in a nasal tone makes it all the worse!
