Talk about trying to capitalize on an artist right after they leave the label. A greatest hits after two albums?

Damn, D'Angelo has been great since the 90's. I'm hoping this release will come through. :)

Huh? "I Found My Smile Again" is from the Space Jam soundtrack. What kind of nonsense are they trying to pull?

I hope he lost weight and got his body back. He has, but he doesn't want to show his body at all and wants to put that behind him but he's fitter than ever.

I played Voodoo yesterday and was reminded of how classic it is. Whoever sequenced the album is pure genius because the flow is so meticulously seamless. The game sorely needs D'Angelo and if James River is even half as good as Voodoo, he is going to cause a problem with this album!

D'Angelo Clarifies New Album Name, Guests
While D'Angelo's long-anticipated album is still expected this summer, it remains untitled, according to his manager, Lindsay Guion of GMUSIC. Guion also notes that despite an earlier press release, producer Mark Ronson and Prince have not yet been confirmed as collaborators. "We have spoken to Prince, Mark Ronson and John Mayer's camps," Guion tells Billboard.com. "But nothing has been confirmed at this time." Still on deck for the J Records release -- D'Angelo's first new album since 2000 -- are Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip and Roy Hargrove. Overseeing the project is J Records president of A&R Peter Edge. Meanwhile, D'Angelo has signed with CAA's Rob Light for worldwide representation in regards to touring, branding, merchandising, TV and film, among other areas. Guion adds that plans are still being negotiated for D'Angelo to go on tour this summer, starting in Europe and then heading to the United States. Guion isn't ruling out the possibility of a surprise performance in the U.S. prior to the summer tour's launch.

Eugh, I hope he doesn't work with Mark Ronson. Or John Mayer (his song on Alicia's last album was great but... no). He should work with Sa-Ra and Nicolay.

Sad. Just sad. On the upside, at least it was a female undercover.

Mark Ronson Working on New D'Angelo Albumby Jason Lipshutz, N.Y. Mark Ronson may be readying the release of third album " Record Collection," due out Sept. 28 on RCA Records, but the Brooklyn-based artist/producer is also involved with another high-profile third album: R&B singer D'Angelo's long-awaited follow-up to sophomore disc "Voodoo." Speaking with Billboard.com last week, Ronson said that he was "going into the studio... to work a bit on his record, and I have equal parts intimidation and awe and excitement." D'Angelo has largely stayed out of the spotlight since the 2000 release of "Voodoo," which won the singer a 2001 Grammy award for Best R&B Album and has sold 1.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Although Ronson says that he does not know how close the new album is to being completed, the producer adds, "I know he's been working nonstop. It's not like they've been sitting on their asses." Ronson, who helped produce Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" and is currently finishing the forthcoming Duran Duran album, also collaborated with the singer on "Glass Mountain Trust," a synth-laden track off "Record Collection" that Ronson says is "now basically my favorite song on the record." The rare guest appearance came together earlier this year partly because D'Angelo and the "Rehab" producer once shared the same manager. "I was pretty much floored when D said that the only two records of the past 5 to 6 years that he really listened to a lot were 'St. Elsewhere' by Gnarls Barkley and 'Back to Black,'" says Ronson. "I was like, 'I cannot believe I made something that this guy listened to over and over again and looked to for inspiration.'" "Record Collection," which also features Ghostface Killah, Boy George and Ronson's debut as a vocalist, will be supported by a tour with new backing band The Business Intl., which kicks off Sept. 27 at Bristol's O2 Academy. Ronson also plans to mix the 13th Duran Duran studio album next month for a possible holiday release. www.billboard.com/news/mark-ronson-working-on-new-d-angelo-album-1004111733.story#/news/mark-ronson-working-on-new-d-angelo-album-1004111733.story

He sounds very different on the song he did for Mark Ronson's album Very. It was kind of unsettling.

Pitchfork: So that's happening next year?
?: He goes to Europe in January. The album is pretty much 97% done. He's just finishing his lyrics now. He needs somebody to smack him and take the record away from him because it's pretty much finished. But I know he must turn this record in like three days before Christmas and that his first show is in Europe, and that he's going to do a whole bunch. They even named it the Occupy Music Tour, so I know they're serious about it.
For all intents and purposes, this album is the black version of [The Beach Boys'] Smile-- at best, it will go down in the Smile/There's a Riot Goin' On/Miles Davis' On the Corner category. That's what I'm hoping for. There's stuff on there I was amazed at, like new music patches [keyboard sounds] I've never heard before. I'd ask him, "What kind of keyboard is that?" I thought it was some old vintage thing. But he builds his own patches.
One song we worked on called "Charade" has this trombone patch that he re-EQ'd and then put through an envelope filter and then added a vibraphone noise on top and made a whole new patch out of it. He's the only person I know that takes a Herbie Hancock approach, or Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff-- the two musician/engineers who programmed all of Stevie Wonder's genius-period stuff-- approach. That's the last time I ever heard of somebody building patches. We'll see if history is kind to it.

He's all drowned out by the backing singers. I'm still waiting to see if he still has his voice because all his recent recordings have had his voice all digitally altered.
