"Closer" is the first single, and the video features Ben Stiller. ------------ Travis: video star 'had to be Ben Stiller'No-one else was 'uptight' enough, say bandTravis recruited the talents of Ben Stiller for their new video because he is the most uptight man they know. The band needed to fill the role of a stressed-out store manager for the promo for 'Closer', which is set in a supermarket. As previously reported on NME.com, Stiller, a huge fan of the group, was more than happy to oblige. "He is a lovely friend," bassist Douglas Payne told ITV.com, "and when we got the treatment for the video there was this part for an uptight wound-up guy. "We just thought, 'Who do we know that is uptight and wound-up?' So Fran emailed Ben and sure enough he had the day off and it was great, we all went off to LA and started shooting." The group's new album 'The Boy With No Name' is released on May 7. Travis also embark on a full UK tour in May, calling at: Grimsby Auditorium (May 15) Dundee Caird Hall (16) Glasgow Barrowlands (17) Aberdeen Music Hall (19) Newcastle Carling Academy (21) Manchester Carling Apollo (22) Bournemouth International Centre (23) Birmingham Carling Academy (25) Plymouth Pavilions (26) Reading The Hexagon (27) London Hammersmith Carling Apollo (29) Suffolk Thetford Forest (June 8) Kent Bedgebury Pinetum (10) North Yorkshire Dalby Forest (23) Gloucestershire Westonbirt Arboretum (29) Nottinghamshire Sherwood Pines Forest Park (30) Video - "Closer"

I'm surprised they continue to release albums in this country.

Well, their last two albums debuted at #39 and #41, respectively. While I'm sure they each plummeted soon after -- especially "12 Memories" -- those results still aren't too bad. It's been a few years since their last album, though, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of first week they'll manage this time.

I didn't realize they had managed to chart at all here, post-1999. That's good to hear, though.

I was deeply in love with "The Man Who" back in 2000, and liked a few of their singles afterward, including the songs I heard from the new album. I think I might have to check this out.

Travis keen to work with soundtrack composing-legendHealy goes all Hollywood...Travis are eyeing a collaboration with film soundtrack composer Danny Elfman. Frontman Fran Healy is a huge fan of Elfman, who is responsible for the theme tunes to 'Beetlejuice', 'Batman' and 'The Simpsons' themes, among others. Healy loves composing "cinematic" music - and believes teaming up with Elfman could be the band's next step. "I'd love to work with him," Fran told the Daily Record, "I think all Travis records are cinematic and feel we've got a widescreen sound almost by accident. "We'd like to give him a song he can embellish." The group's new album 'The Boy With No Name' is released on May 7 on Independiente. Travis also embark on a full UK tour in May, calling at: Grimsby Auditorium (May 15) Dundee Caird Hall (16) Glasgow Barrowlands (17) Aberdeen Music Hall (19) Newcastle Carling Academy (21) Manchester Carling Apollo (22) Bournemouth International Centre (23) Birmingham Carling Academy (25) Plymouth Pavilions (26) Reading The Hexagon (27) London Hammersmith Carling Apollo (29) Suffolk Thetford Forest (June 8) Kent Bedgebury Pinetum (10) North Yorkshire Dalby Forest (23) Gloucestershire Westonbirt Arboretum (29) Nottinghamshire Sherwood Pines Forest Park (30)

Travis: 'The Boy With No Name'Released on Monday, May 7 2007 By Miriam Zendle (Digital Spy) It's been three years since Travis released a studio album. Three years in which the band took a break from the hectic schedule, increasing sales and manic lifestyle that going from selling 40,000 copies of debut release Good Feeling to the multi-platinum success of 2001's The Invisible Band created for them. Some might say they've been usurped by the somewhat similar talents of Coldplay and Keane, but the former are far more irritating and the latter far more melancholy than Travis could ever be. Travis are a band with experience, history and pedigree, and it really does show. The Boy With No Name is their fifth album, released exactly ten years after their fabulous debut. The emergence of Travis into the mainstream back in the late '90s and early Noughties heralded a spate of fantastically written and brilliantly performed hits from the now-lesser-spotted Scottish group. These songs range in tone from the chirpy, simple and early on 'Tied To The '90s' to the rather more sophisticated 'Pipe Dreams', and indeed the wit and writing of Travis is clearly still improving with each release, as The Boy With No Name shows. When listening to the band's new album, do take a moment to sit back and marvel at how lead singer Fran Healy marries the bittersweet, often low mood lyrics of Travis' songs with the orchestrations that surround his "broken up" voice. From the powerfully energetic 'Selfish Jean', which disguises a tale of failed friendship, to the delicate tones of first single 'Closer', over which Healy's voice swoops smoothly, the album is unified in concept yet disparate in tone. All tracks on The Boy With No Name are of a similar standard of workmanship and enjoyability. Certainly, the joyful and twinkling 'My Eyes', writen the day Healy found out he was going to be a father, is a stand out, with the almost ditzy little bonus track 'Sailing Away' taking away an honourable mention, but each track on this album is a lovingly crafted piece of workmanship and a joy to listen to. Rather uniquely, nothing irritates, nothing is too whiny - absolutely nothing is sub-par about this wonderful, charming album. Long live Travis.

And on the other extreme.. Travis, The Boy With No NameBy: Leonie Cooper (The Guardian) Even in their late 1990s heyday, Travis were never a bunch of hard-rocking hellraisers, merely a group of charming chaps from Glasgow with a nice line in a nation-rousing yet utterly soulless indie pop; they're the group at whose feet we can squarely lay the blame for the anodyne likes of Coldplay, Keane and Snow Patrol. In a less liberal country, they'd probably be banished to the margins, but instead they've come back to taunt us with more of the same with their fifth album. Selfish Jean was apparently inspired by Iggy Pop and Motown, but sounds more like it has taken its lead from a meander down the middle of the road in Dullsville, Devon. There are plenty more wishy-washy guitar tunes present like the drippy, tambourine laced Battleships, the wheezing Out in Space and the sub-danger of Eyes Wide Open; all riddled with Fran Healy's girlish croon. Spare us.

I agree! Sorta like Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" vid, with t-shirts.
I also like this song better than "Closer".

Ouch! Harsh NME review... Travis NME rating: 2/10 The Boy With No NameBy pioneering the vile concept of adult-orientated-indie, Travis greased the pole for every quivery-lipped drip from Lightbody to Blunt. Not content with installing this impotent aural gruel as the country's primary musical diet, Travis insist on continuing to make records of their own. 'The Boy With No Name' is everything you'd expect from a new Travis album and less. The occasionally pretty melodies are played and sung with all the soul of a platform announcement, while Fran Healy's vapid lyrics plumb new depths of banality when he rhymes "birds of a feather" with "shame about the weather". Why does it always rain on Travis? Because they're lifeless drones who should be modelling cardigans rather than sullying this wonderful thing we call pop music. Sam Richards
