LAURYN HILL READY TO RETURN TO MUSIC, HINTS AT PREGNANCYwww.rap-up.com/2011/04/19/video-lauryn-hill-ready-to-return-to-music-hints-at-pregnancy/#more-81900Lauryn Hill brought her “Moving Target: Extended Playdate Series” to Club NOKIA in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night (April 18). Dressed in baggy coat, long skirt, and headband, a bohemian Ms. Hill had fans wondering if she was carrying her sixth child after wearing another oversized outfit during her appearance at Coachella this weekend. She alluded to her possible pregnancy during the concert. “I keep having these children. I don’t know if I’m the most fertile woman in America,” said the former Fugee, who then performed “To Zion” written about her first born. The hot topic was discussed again later in the evening. “I’ve got five big children, you believe that? If you ask anybody I went to high school with, they’d be like puzzled… Wait till you hear the big secret though.” But that wasn’t the only surprise. L. Boogie also announced that she’s almost ready to make her long-awaited return to music. “As I get back up and start to do this again, make more music and present it to the people, I want you to know how much I appreciate your support, the fact that you’re still here,” she said. “You know my intention has always been to make music from my heart and to say something that means something not just to myself, but means something to you as well.” She continued, “I’ma be honest. I give the floor to whoever deserves the floor. You don’t hear me making music for no reason. If I have something to say and I really mean something, that’s when it’s time to put something out. And it’s getting close to that time, don’t you think? As my Jamaican brethren say, soon come.”

It's Bob Marley Week on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." So Lauryn did a few tracks in honor of "Bob Marley Week".

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: BEHIND THE SCENES WITH LAURYN HILL AT THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS (Show Date: 5/13/11)Written by Mikey Glazer www.younghollywood.com/scene/about-last-night-behind-the-scenes-with-lauryn-hill-at-the-cosmopolitan-of-las-vegas.htmlShe hid for many years, but on Friday night Lauryn Hill took center stage to rock the hottest hotspot in Vegas – the outdoor Boulevard pool at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas – just opened on New Year’s Eve, 2011. While sometimes there are those “side stage” mobs of people watching a show up close, we had the chance to take in the show from an elevated (and spacious) VIP deck behind the stage. Amongst only 25 of Vegas and L.A.’s finest, we got the chance to hang with the one time Fugee, “Ms. L-Boogie”, before, during, and after rocking the same stage that has brought Robyn, Mumford and Sons, and other huge names in its freshman season. (For those still resisting the electronic music dominance in Las Vegas, these lineups have been a tall glass of ice water after the proverbial long slow crawl through the desert.) For the few thousand standing on the covered pool, crowding the low hanging balconies of hotel rooms, and even those watching from several stories below on the strip itself via the giant screen that towers above the hotel – this was the place everyone wanted to be on a sold-out weekend in town. Like a quarterback, Ms. Hill (@mshillmvngtrgt) was directing traffic backstage – approving her backup singers’ wardrobe (outfitted in their Y-3 hats and shoes), while Hill rocked a red blazer, grey pants, big gold hoops, and her own sly black Y-3 fedora herself. After spraying her throat a few times and bossing around the sounds guys lurking near the side, she pulled the Lebron James “pump up the crowd” arm waves before bounding out only one bar before blasting into “Everything is Everything.” (See Hill in red in photo below). Promising the crowd that she was going “to do some classic material”, her initial reaction to the party scene was to wish the audience closer. “Security, can we move these people up?”, referencing the 10-foot divide between the stage and those standing closest to the front of the deck. Over the next 90 minutes, she spun through full versions of both Fugee hits, her solo material, and at least three cover versions of her late father-in-law Bob Marley’s material. (She came back to “Is this Love” at two points during the show.) Backed by a 7-piece band, 3 singers, and a DJ, they all stayed put as Hill dodged back by VIP to freshen up before a 4-song encore, ending around 12:35 AM with “That Thing”. Drew Brown of OneRepublic told me at Sundance this year that Vegas is a very hard place to play, because the crowds have been amped up all day and already over-stimulated. Hill had the magic on Friday that had the crowd hand-waving and barely taking breaks to hit the bars, including the “open” one in our choice real estate. Since opening on New Year’s Eve with Florence + the Machine, Coldplay, Jay-Z, and every celebrity you read about in the weeklies making the trip (as fans), the Cosmopolitan has been peerless in social gravity. Even on opening night, stars who had been under contract to other properties (J. Lo, Rihanna, and others) made it a point to come check in to the late party that went on in Marquee until dawn. Mikey Glazer is always on the list. He’s been covering events since his kindergarten Valentine’s Day cookie party, graduating to the Hollywood party circuit. He has contributed from behind the velvet rope for E! Entertainment Radio, US Weekly, and created the popular live celebrity sightings twitter,@celebsightings.

Lauryn Hill Radiates at the Santa Barbara Bowl (Show Date: May 14, 2011)By Erika Martin Published on May 19, 2011 www.dailynexus.com/2011-05-19/lauryn-hill-radiates-santa-barbara-bowl/I’ve been waiting to have a first-hand experience with Lauryn Hill’s boomingly soulful voice since the sixth grade. While any other recording artist I listened to as an adolescent would have fizzled out, overdosed or otherwise lost any sort of appeal by this point, Ms. Hill seems to possess a unique ability to eternally kill it — but not necessarily softly. Although it wouldn’t be honest of me to say her performance last Saturday at the Santa Barbara Bowl was worth a decade’s wait, she did prove that her longevity is not unearned. The evening brought out far more Lauryn Hill fans than I thought existed in Santa Barbara, making it an especially good concert if you like to see rich white people get down. Not only did she manage to overcome the acoustics of the Bowl (which definitely don’t work in favor of a vocalist) to electrify the crowd with her ever-dynamic stage presence, but she did it all while pregnant. Despite maintaining her famously shy persona, appearing cloaked in a hat and cape, I was blown away by the amount of energy and ferocity injected into each song. The concert provided a far different experience than listening to any of her albums, in some ways for the better and others for the worse. It was obvious from the moment Hill opened the show by hitting the audience with a raucous “Everything is Everything” that the tunes were going to be flavored by the intense style of her rapping persona, not the effortlessly silky vibe of “Killing Me Softly.” The vehemence yet sultry flair with which she performed her solo tunes — including “Lost One,” “Final Hour” and “Ex-Factor” — definitely made this my favorite segment of the concert. Hill followed with a medley of Fugees hits, but not like I remembered them. From a reggae-infused “How Many Mics” to a boisterous “Ready or Not,” I ended up being most sold on a completely faithful performance of “Fu-Gee-La.” And of course, Hill didn’t leave out a joyful Bob Marley cover, sending waves of smoke throughout the crowd with a rendition of “I Wanna Love Ya.” My biggest complaint is how often Hill was overpowered by extensive band set-up. The amplified funk and improvisational quality the band lent her songs was refreshing, but I would have liked to hear less experimental instrumentation and more of Hill’s voice. When it all boiled down, however, I think the evening would have benefitted from a taste of the smooth and mellow Lauryn Hill I grew up with. In the end, I left the concert during the finale tune — “Doo Wop (That Thing)” — to get in my car, pop in Miseducation, and relive the glory days.

Here's a review from an attendee at Lauryn's concert in Pomona, CA (The Fox Theatre) on 5/17/11.....fugeesonline.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=lauryn&thread=3742&post=25843Basically this is what I think. First, allow me to say that I have been a huge fan of Lauryn's since before her solo album. I too, along with many of you, have supported, stood by, backed up and followed Lauryn the past 10 + years. I have had the pleasure of being able to see Lauryn live a total of 9 times as of last night. I went with my cousin (who is a newbie LH fan), we were in line at the venue at 3 pm. We we the first in the theater. We were front row center. The show began, I believe a little before 10:30pm. One by one her band came on stage and rocked out along with the dj. Then the BG singers came out.... at approx. 10:30 Ms. Lauryn Hill came out, dressed to impress and gorgeous as ever. She was amazing as always. The energy was pumping. Her voice gets stronger and stronger with each of these performances. Of course she commanded the band, singers and sound people, but not in a diva manner. She had the view of someone who knows how her music should sound. (Reminds me of Michael Jackson, from this is it) At one point she disappeared from the stage and returned with a slight costume change. lol She switched to a smaller more fitted coat/jacket. I took a few pictures and a few videos for you all. I am not much of a writer lol but I hope the pics n video speak for itself. My favorite part was as she was making her exit, she turned towards the crowd and smiled while rubbing her belly lol ( im not sure if it can be seen in my video of doo wop lol.

Show Review: Lauryn Hill at The Mezzanine (San Francisco, CA) - 5/18/11by CAROLINE HERNANDEZ on MAY 19, 2011 spinningplatters.com/2011/05/19/show-review-lauryn-hill-at-the-mezzanine-51811/I was fully aware of what was potentially in store for me when I purchased tickets to see Lauryn Hill play The Mezzanine. Tales told of showing up unremorsefully late, being inebriated during the show, and heckling the crowd just to name a few things. However, when it was announced that Lauryn Hill would be performing a Bob Marley tribute at The Mezzanine in a week, I snatched up a ticket like Cookie Monster devours his favorite treats. I’m a Bob Marley fan as much as the next person, but it was mostly imagining seeing one of the seminal artists of my youth in such an intimate setting. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was on constant rotation on my Panasonic portable CD player, as I would attempt to learn the rap in “Doo Wop (That Thing)”. Despite knowing the possibility of being massively disappointed was real, I eagerly anticipated seeing L-Boogie perform right before my eyes. In order to circumvent the wait I knew was inevitable, I didn’t arrive until 10:45 pm, subsequently missing Dead Prez who was announced late as the opener. The DJ however, did provide a dancelicious mix of Biggie, Too $hort, the late great, Nate Dogg, and Dr. Dre, getting the crowd of mostly thirty-somethings reliving their high school dances. Bob Marley’s iconic face graced the projected images on the big screen next to the stage. Around 11:50pm, Ms. Hill’s band began taking the stage to sound check. At this point, I’ll admit I began to worry how long it would be before she herself would come out. The wait turned out to be no more than 10 minutes, and then there she was, dressed in a brown hat atop of her famous fro, and adorned with golden bangles and a red frock, she greeted the crowd and had us all reaffirm our love for Bob Marley. The cameras and phones were out in a flash to capture the beautiful Lauryn Hill, relatively on time. Hill went right into two deep cut Bob Marley songs to separate who the true fans were from people like me. The songs I did know were “Trench Town”, “Stir it up”, “Waiting in Vain”, and “Is This Love”; all up-tempo versions which she animatedly tried to get the sound guy to turn up in her monitor. After that proved to be unsuccessful to her, she asked the crowds permission to switch it up to her own songs to which she received a big affirmative from the crowd. Up first was “Everything is Everything”, followed by “Sweetest Thing” and “Intro”, and then later, “Ready or Not” a Fugee fan favorite. I suppose if one were expecting her to perform her songs as they are on the album, then one might have been disappointed because each song had a very different structure. However, if you think Lauryn Hill now is the same person she was back in 1998, then you’d be wrong. It’s very clear that whatever demons might have plagued her in the past were nowhere in sight now. Why wouldn’t the songs reflect that aspect of a woman so talentedly articulate of her own feelings? She was having a good time and fully engaging with the crowd, especially the ladies who were out in full force for their girl, Lauryn. In no way shape or form should some bad shows mar the legacy of this truly great singer and songwriter because quite frankly, no one in recent years has been able to match her talent. This particular show proved that she still has it. And after all, Lauryn is only human.

Recap and Gallery: Ms. Lauryn Hill (5/18)The Mezzanine - San Francicso, CA hip-hop.com/blog/2011/05/recap-and-gallery-ms-lauryn-hill-and-dead-prez/Ms. Lauryn Hill, again dressed in a long billowy gown, came back Wednesday night to the Bay Area in her third such appearance in a little over a month, bringing with her to the Mezzanine in San Francisco her usual backing band and perhaps a different demeanor. The stage, tightly spaced but larger than the one at The New Parish that barely contained her ensemble, appeared to carry more weight than usual with a special Bob Marley tribute, where Hill would sandwich her usual set with several Marley classics. Maybe it’s that she is doing a special tribute to a man whose bloodline she carried for so many months and years, but she definitely came with a different, more particular attitude. At her last show in the Bay that she co-headlined with Dave Chappelle last month, she was seemingly relaxed and grateful. This time, it appeared to matter more, with her snapping at the sound crew more than any of the three appearance I’ve seen her live. At the same time, the first few Marley covers of the set, including “Pimper’s Paradise,” “Natty Town,” and “Trench Town,” although performed well, didn’t seem to satisfy her much. Either the sound really was that bad or perhaps other things led to her discomfort. Or maybe the crowd, a finicky bunch who earlier had already shouted out her DJ’s warmup set with calls of “Lauryn! Lauryn!,” didn’t seem to respond much to the more obscure parts of Marley’s catalog. The turning point came when Lauryn move onto her own past records. Ms. Hill moved and sang with her usual gusto an energetic performance she honed from months on tour; she performed with relative comfort and the crowd responded in kind. By the time she got to her usual encore song, her duet with a recorded Bob Marley for “Good Lovin,” the crowd seemed ready for anything else she had for them. That’s when she played her best arrangements of Marley covers, including the two she played for Jimmy Fallon last week, “Chances Are,” and “Could You Be Loved.” A bit of a shame that the 2am curfew hit not too long after she hit the exhilarating “Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up now!” bridge in “Could You Be Loved,” which easily, by far, the climax of the entire performance. Here’s Ms. Lauryn Hill’s playlist for the night:Pimper’s Paradise Natty Dreadlock Trench Town Natural Mystic Waiting in Vain Is This Love Everything Is Everything Sweetest Thing Lost Ones Ex-Factor How Many Men Fu Gee La Ready Or Not Killing Me Softly Good Lovin Chances Are I Know Could You Be Loved Ms. Hill returns to tour with stops in Eugene, OR 5/20, Seattle, WA 5/22, and Vancouver, BC 5/24 and 5/25.

Lauryn Hill is expecting! On Saturday, June 4, Ms. Hill took a few seconds at the end of her set in Chene Park, Detroit to announce her pregnancy. Lauryn Hill told the crowd that she'd be "taking time off to give birth," Ashley Trybula of Detroit radio station Hot 102.7 told Radar Online Rumors circled the 'net last month after The Fugees member performed on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' in honor of the show's Bob Marley Week. This will be Hill's sixth child. She is a mother of three boys and two girls. Her oldest son, Zion, who she crafted a song of, "To Zion," will turn 14 in August. Or maybe can we expect a posthumous album?

LAURYN HILL WELCOMES SIXTH CHILDLauryn Hill has added another member to her growing family. The former Fugee gave birth to a baby boy over the weekend. Hill, 36, welcomed a son on Saturday (July 23). The father was not immediately identified. She has five previous children with Bob Marley’s son Rohan Marley. According to Blackcelebkids.com, who first reported the news, the Grammy-winning singer “had a little scare because the baby came out the womb with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.” But mother and child are doing fine. “All is well now and everyone is happy,” adds the source. Marley congratulated Hill on the birth of her son. “I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son,” he tweeted. “I’m sure she’ll appreciate the love being sent to her RASTAFARI R.M.” Hill first hinted at her pregnancy at one of her recent concerts. “I keep having these children. I don’t know if I’m the most fertile woman in America,” she joked during a Los Angeles gig. She wrote an open letter to her fans last month where she addressed her pregnancy and apologized for being late to her shows. She is scheduled to perform at the Rock the Bells Festival next month. www.rap-up.com/2011/07/25/lauryn-hill-welcomes-sixth-child/

Some of my favorite Lauryn related tweets today:
very happy for Lauryn Hill...now if she'd just give birth to an album I'd really appreciate it.
Who keeps busting nuts in Lauryn Hill?
Man if only Lauryn Hill would have put out music, like she pops out these babies.
