We Belong Together" and "Fly Like A Bird" are signs Mariah's going in the right direction. Let's just hope she continues in that directions.

What I'd Like to See:
- A duet with a Dude - A pop song (ala Fantasy, Heartbreaker) - More ballads - Something in the vein of One and Only - Something in the vein of Your Girl - Full voice that's not belting

-Walter Afanasieff & Mariah should work out their differences and work with each other again. They're union has made some of the greatest songs I've heard in my life. -James Wright should stick around. He helped bring out the soul in her on TEOM. -That Dallas Austin idea actually sounds good. She should also work with relative unknowns again. -Much less J.D. I'm talking no more than 3 songs. Don't even think for a second that he was responsible for her comeback. She added a lot of modern elements & flair to his dated concepts. -No guest appearances, it's tired & tacky. Unless it's with another vocalist who has strong enough pipes not be overpowered by Mariah's. That really limits it to absolutely no contemporary male vocalist and like 5 female contemporaries. -She needs to step her lyrical game up. I want to hear something as deep as (or perhaps "deeper" than) the Butterfly album. The personal tracks forced you to feel for her and the love-based tracks had a lot of depth, while covering the different spectrums of a relationship, making you understand where she was coming from. -When it comes to up-tempos, she should attempt to create something new & interesting. And no, that does not mean go back to the Dreamlover/Fantasy/Honey/Heartbreaker/Loverboy formula, despite how much I like each one of those tracks. -I really like how she sounded vocally on TEOM. But not much added effects, especially when she goes into the whistle register. I want to have a clear listening experience. -I hope she remembers that she is the ideal crossover artist this time around. Her material should never be "too pop" or "too urban." Also try to cater to the AC audience again. -As for promo, keep on doing what she does here in the states but her people should plan a more extensive promo tour outside of North America.

I think she'll come straight out the gate with a mid-tempo or ballad.

"Close My Eyes" thumps "Petals" in the lyrics department. 'Vision Of Love' > 'Close My Eyes' > 'Petals' although i've always loved 'The Roof's Lyrics and delivery!!

"Bringing On The Heartbreak" is my jam. Mariah killed it with that highpitched squeaky finish. Gotta love the lady!

OK don't hate me for saying this but I would like for Mariah to do a double album. And call it something like, "Mariah." I think her music has taken so many turns that she could use it as the road map for the album - have those upbeat pop songs, those upbeat hip-hop songs, those gospel numbers, those introspective family/race songs, those 'my all' type love songs, those melodic "Music Box" type songs, those Daydream/Fly Away interludes, those rap collaborations, have her rap like in "Prisoner", those 50s shuffle type songs like "Forever," the remakes, the dog-whistle, the whisper, the deep voice, Jermaine, Walter A., Jimmy Jam and Terry (without Jermaine, mind you), Jimmy W., etc.
Too much?

Well, she is deep enough in her career where this would make sense, but I don't know if she would want to. It would be nice. =)

i like that on the itunes holiday chart, AIWFCIY is #1 already.
no suprise there.
i am, however, quite suprised at the #26 song on the holiday chart.... the very festive Give Me One Reason by the always jolly Tracey Chapman.

-She needs to step her lyrical game up. I want to hear something as deep as (or perhaps "deeper" than) the Butterfly album. The personal tracks forced you to feel for her and the love-based tracks had a lot of depth, while covering the different spectrum of a relationship, making you understand where she was coming from. It would be nice to have another album like Butterfly but in today's music industry, it's a risky gamble. I'm not sure Mariah's ready for a gamble just yet. If this flops, its heyday for critics and haters. She's had a strong comeback, but that doesn't mean she's cemented herself completely back into the scene. She needs another commercial success before she can venture out again. I would love for her to experiment (not like she did on Glitter, Charmbracelet, etc...) and come up with breathtaking lyrics but I don't see that translating into strong sales (especially noting the types of singles hitting the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100). Who knows though, Mariah may be able to pull it off (if WBT was an indicator).

Yeah, a Mariah-Walter A combo will be perfect. They were the greatest team of the 90's. I'd love a strong sensual ballad with a modern feel.

Has Walter even upgraded his sound? I haven't seen his name attached to any big or popular songs over the past few years.....? Anybody know what he's done recently?
Mariah likes to rehash and Walter seems stuck in the 90's with his AC approach to balladry. Them joining together again will likely create part 2's, and version 3's of past hits.

He did a song for Jessica Simpson in 2001 and one for Nick Lachey in 2002, I believe.. "When You Told Me You Loved Me" and "You're The Only Place". They were both pretty good piano ballads but they didn't sound like he evolved his sound a lot.

people .. people! The walter thing is out of the question. 1- they are not on speaking terms 2- his shit sounds dated!! the only reason he was ever good is because she pushed him in different directions (such as r&b and Dance). 3- he's tied, chained & on lockdown at the Ceasar's Palace ... nobody does bland & Boring AC like Celine. 4- he's a nobody ..

Once again does anyone know if she's going to perform at the AMAs coming soon???
And I liked Walter Afanasieff... I believe he works with Sony still with their more balladeer artistes like Josh Groban etc.
