I dont understand one thing. "Up" has only sold 5 million but why is it 11x platinum??? Are the sales doubled? Also I know that Up sold 867 000 in its first week but were those sales doubled?

But the first week sales were counted as one.

It's considered as a double album for RIAA purposes, but SoundScan and HITS (and therefore the Billboard chart) count each copy as one unit sold.

Thanks, well then if Shania sells only around 500k, wouldnt it kind of be a dissapointment? I mean selling 350k less than before is a big drop.

Too bad they predicted Britney so low i still believe that she'll sell near 300k. People at the Britney forum are claiming that they barely shipped any copies of the greatest hits while they shipped way more for Shania.

In the past two days, I've been at WalMart, Borders and Media play in Buffalo, NY.
There are a ton of Britney's GH album.
I've seen more Britney than Shania!!

On November 8, the 2004 BMI Country songwriting awards took place. "Forever and For Always" was named Song of the Year. Shania now has 28 BMI awards, including 4 awards for Song of the Year. www.bmi.com/news/200411/20041108b.asp

when something underperforms to say there weren't a lot of copies shipped. This is an in-general comment, not directed at any specific act or anything. Whoever it is, it's a lod of hogwash. Only time that happens is when it's a HUGE album and perhaps a label underestimated potential, and then it rushes copies to stores right away.
If Shania does close to 500K, that would be very impressive. I was thinking 325K-375K on the conservative side.

Did anyone else notice that Shania was number 17 on billboard top internet albums with her greatest hits this week, so i think that it means that internet sales do not count into first week sales.

it's possible some outlets report the info early, or some other snafu is at work (i.e. Cher's Very BEst Of had appeared on the chart for a couple weeks before its official release). But, in the past, Internet sales have counted for first-week sales.

Shania's "Come on Over" album is at #132 on the weeks Billboard 200 album chart. It's sales are just a little over 15 million. Since Come On Over has sold 15 million does anyone know how much "The Woman in Me" has sold, I know it's 12x platinum but how much has it sold because after figuring out that Come On Over has only sold 15 million and is 19x Platinum i'm curious to see how much The Woman In Me has sold.

COO is sold in retail stores almost 15.2m copies. But it also sold tons of cds through music clubs, not counted into Soundscan sales. Just in BMG the album sold 2m copies. And TWIM sold there more than 1.24m copies. UP! in six weeks 477,000 copies, and and even her debut cd Shania Twain sold there more than 350,000 copies. Columbia House never published their numbers - or at least they aren't aviable on the internet. That's why the difference is between the Soundscan and RIAA numbers.

With such huge album and tour figures how much money would you surmise that Shania Twain is worth???

COO Hits Double Diamond! Diamonds are a girl's best friend. In the music biz, ''diamond'' means 10 million albums sold. Shania Twain hit double diamond last week on her album Come On Over, making it the best-selling country album of all time, her record label says. Mazel tov! ---Nashville Tennessean

That's the truth, and the argument used when some criticize Mariah's albums certifications... Some doesn't trust that haters of course ;) BTW, I love Shania too! ;)

Regardless of how people feel about Shania, they have to admit that 20 million copies in under 7 years is absolutely unheard of and will probably never happen again.

The sales of "Come On Over" are amazing.
"Come On Over" is now, by far, the youngest album at 20 million or more.
The other members of the 20 million club are:
28 Million - (1976) The Eagles, "Their Greatest Hits 1971 - 75"
26 Million - (1982) Michael Jackson, "Thriller"
23 Million - (1979) Pink Floyd, "The Wall"
22 Million - (1971) Led Zeppelin, "Led Zeppelin IV"
21 Million - (1985) Billy Joel, "Greatest Hits, Volumes I & II"
20 Million - (1980) AC/DC, "Back In Black"
20 Million - (1997) Shania Twain, "Come On Over"

As soon as the RIAA officially updates their site with the 20 million "Come On Over" certification, Shania's U.S. total will be at 44 million for her career.
That does not include the potential millions added to her total from the "Greatest Hits" cd.
This is the #s breakdown for her career.
1 Million - "Shania Twain"
12 Million - "The Woman In Me"
20 Million - "Come On Over"
11 Million - "Up!"
?? Million - "Greatest Hits"

Keep in mind that some certs- i.e. Billy Joe's GH- are misleading. His is a double disc, so it's shipped 10.5 million units. That dopey RIAA rule... only in America.
I'd be curious to know how much of COO's sales are from that international edition. I't by no means the same scenario as Up! since that album was sold separately, but still would be nice to know. Granted, the bulk of copies is of the orginal release.
And, COO is 132 on the Comprehensive Albums chart, which includes catalog titles.
BTW- Party for Two has grown on me a bit. It's still not one of her best, but it's fun. I prefer the BC version.

Just remember, "COO" being certified 20X Platinum just means that 20 million copies have been shipped; not sold.
BTW, How big would Shania Twain's personal fortune be estimated at by now *based on her touring and album sales*?
