Aww shit... Hip-Hop Pioneer Marley Marl Suffers Heart AttackWednesday - June 6, 2007 by Giuseppe Ginsberg Koch Records has confirmed that legendary hip-hop producer Marly Marl has suffered a heart attack yesterday (June 5) and is currently hospitalized. Marley Marl, who hails from the Queensbridge Projects in Queens, NY, is a founding member of 1980's golden era hip-hop collective the Juice Crew, featuring such rap heavyweights as Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, MC Shan and Biz Markie, among others. Marley is also responsible for founding famed record label Cold Chillin', and producing for LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim and TLC. Most recently Marley Marl (born Marlon Williams) united with longtime rival KRS-One for the Koch release Hip-Hop Lives, a response record to fellow Queensbridge alumni Nas, whose last album was titled Hip Hop Is Dead. Marly's collaboration with KRS, Hip-Hop Lives, which hit stores last month, marks the first time the two hip-hop pioneers worked together since battling each other on wax in the late 80's. As of press time, no further details have been released about the producer's condition. Marley Marl is 44-years-old.
