I think he'll still be able to sell well worldwide. I think he'll have a tough time crossing a million in the uS. I mean if Janet, Toni, George Michael couldn't do it, he'll have a tough time. The US press had a field day with him, like they've had with no other artist. It's going to be very, very tough to recover from that here in the US. Internationally, I don't think people were following the Michael jackson story as much as we were. US news tends to be more entertainment gossip driven... CNN in the US is rather insular and covers more inconsequential news than CNN overseas. BBC and CNN overseas cover more important and pressing issues that are going on in the world. I would guess his reputation is still quite solid in more insulated countries like several in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. He probably doesn't have as strong of a following in Western Europe. A lot of this is changing as the internet is becoming a bigger source for news and people are likely to stumble upon gossip about their favorite celebrities. But all of MJ's really sketchy stuff happened a few years ago. I think he's still pretty safe Worldwide. He won't do as well as his prime, but I think his next album could push 5-8 mil WW, and do about 700k in the US if it is a really good album that has international appeal.

IMO Thriller would come first because it has no "filler" Off the Wall has "filler". I agree, but "Off The Wall" has three HIGH peaks ("Don't Stop...", "Rock With You", the title track), the first two being his greatest singles to date. It makes a difference. "Thriller" has two great, great songs ("Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and "Billie Jean"). Off The Wall is the album that the critics keep going back to more and more, despite the mammoth sales of its follow up. Imo, Off The Wall was defiantly his "most free" album, it's effortless perfection. Everything afterwards sounded more forced than the one before it. It wasn't very prominent on Thriller, but starting on Bad it became very obvious. That being said, I think everything up until History was great overall. "Off The Wall" has a palpable urgency to it, it's more focused as a record overall because it takes one direction and follows it to the end, and it's fresh, I think you can feel that. "Thriller" is great, very well conceived, but it has something for everyone (which may party explain the gigantic sales), but that takes something away from the quality of the album. So, when it comes to comparisons, IMO, OTW > T. With "Bad" the once great collaboration with Quincy Jones went sour, despite some hot singles ("Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Smooth Criminal"), and a few good others ("Man In The Mirror" and "Another Part Of Me") was artistically killed by the filler ("Speed Demon", "Liberian Girl", "Just Good Friends"). Moreover, the album sounded much less free, the feeling it gives me is that of a missed opportunity. With "Dangerous" things went back on track. The presence of Teddy Riley was healthy. The record was simply strong, it doesn't reach the heights of his early career, but almost everything on it sounds good. IMO, if "Heal The World", "Gone Too Soon" and "Keep The Faith" hadn't been included, it would have been a no-filler record, they kill the momentum of a collection of very urban and very rhythmic songs. With "History" and "Invincible" the filler/simply-bad-tracks outweight the good and sometimes great ones. On the former, the singles (except "Earth Song") are good, but the rest is almost non-existent to my ears; on the latter, the first triplet of songs, "You Rock My World" and "Butterflies" sound great, but the rest? Forget the rest! While always playing in the R&B-pop field, he has sounded cutting edge a few times over. That's why for the future he shouldn't work with Will.I.Am or Akon (they're not innovative at all, though they could provide him with the sales he really needs), but he should really get in the studio with Pharrell, Chad, Missy, Timbaland, with a few ballads written with Ne-Yo and R. Kelly. Imagine that.... It would be FIRE! Still, as I said before, I hope for the best.

I think Timbaland would be played out by then. Justin & Nelly already milked Timbaland for what he's worth.

^ Maybe, but I have this feeling that now that Timbo is in the spotlight again he's preparing crazy things. At least I hope so...

I hope Michael doesn’t work with Timbaland or the Neptunes… I like their songs… but I think Michael needs something else… needs an upgrade… and they do exactly what Michael did in the past.

Apr 5, 10:03 AM EDT Sale of Jackson Family Items Announced
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- More than 1,100 Jackson family items are set for auction in Las Vegas next month, but a representative for Michael Jackson says the pop star is considering legal action to stop the sale.
"Mr. Jackson was not aware and he is extremely upset that his memorabilia was included amongst the memorabilia that is being auctioned off," said spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain.
The Jacksons Auction is scheduled May 30-31 at the Hard Rock hotel resort.
Guernsey's auction house said items include Michael Jackson's gold record for his "Thriller" album, handwritten lyrics for The Jackson Five hit "ABC" and a "Victory Tour" program signed by Jackson family members.
Arlan Ettinger, founder and president of Guernsey's, compared the sale to an auction of Elvis Presley/Graceland memorabilia he conducted in Las Vegas in 1999.
"It certainly is in that sphere of landmark, high-profile, extraordinary auctions," Ettinger told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Michael Jackson, 48, has been living in Las Vegas while he evaluates proposals for a comeback after his 2005 acquittal in California on child molestation charges.
His father, former Jackson Five manager Joe Jackson, also lives in Las Vegas. He didn't respond to a phone message seeking comment.
Ettinger said the collection was owned by luggage transportation company Universal Express Inc., of Boca Raton, Fla., which bought it last year from a New Jersey construction company owner.
The former owner, Henry Vaccaro, claimed a warehouse full of Jackson memorabilia after a failed business venture wound up in bankruptcy court. Michael Jackson and his sister Janet Jackson sued to stop Vaccaro from taking ownership, but a Los Angeles judge threw out Michael Jackson's claim in 2006.
The status of Janet Jackson's claim was unclear Wednesday. Messages left with her publicist weren't immediately returned.
Other items include a test pressing of The Jackson Five's "I Want You Back," Marlon Jackson's glitter jacket, Randy Jackson's futuristic 1984 stage boots and a white fedora believed to be from Michael Jackson's "Bad" album music video.

May 18, 2:30 PM EDT Jackson Drops Bid to Block Vegas Auction
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Lawyers for Michael Jackson on Friday dropped an effort to block an auction of the pop star's personal belongings and other Jackson family items, including Jackson's gold record for his "Thriller" album.
Jackson didn't appear in a Las Vegas court where his lawyer told a judge that a confidential agreement had been reached with representatives of an auctioneer, the current owner of the materials, and a New Jersey man who claimed a warehouse full of Jackson memorabilia after a failed business venture wound up in bankruptcy court.
"The matter's been resolved," Gregory Cross, a lawyer for Jackson, told Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez.
Lawyers declined to describe terms of the agreement, which settled an April 27 lawsuit.
Jackson sought to prevent the auction and force the return of items he claimed were personal property, court documents show. The entertainer also had sought unspecified punitive damages.
Universal Express Inc., the Boca Raton, Fla., luggage transportation company that owns the items, claimed the materials were worth about $50 million, according to court records.
Arlan Ettinger, president of Guernsey's auction house of New York, said outside the courtroom that the auction will go on as scheduled May 30-31 at the Hard Rock hotel in Las Vegas.
Jackson, 48, has been living in Las Vegas while he evaluates proposals for a comeback after his 2005 acquittal in California on child molestation charges.
More than 1,000 family items are set for auction, including the handwritten lyrics for The Jackson Five hit "ABC," Jackson's platinum award for the single "Rock With You," his black silk jacket with gold sequined epaulets and a 1987 contract for the purchase of the Santa Barbara County, Calif., ranch he renamed "Neverland."
Jeffrey Sylvester, a Las Vegas lawyer for Universal, said "very little" of Jackson's personal items would be sold.

Michael Jackson will be paid a staggering $9.9 million for attending a prince's birthday party.
The 'Thriller' singer has been promised the mega-bucks deal just to turn up at Brunei's Prince Azim's 25th birthday bash - and does not even have to sing.
A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "Absolutely no expense has been spared for his party - Michael Jackson is his all-time idol and he said he'd pay whatever it took to get him over. advertisement
"Even though Michael won't be performing, the very fact that he'll be in this stately home mingling with all of the prince's pals makes it worth every penny to Azim."
Michael, 48, flew to the UK from Los Angeles Tuesday ahead of the lavish two-day party this weekend.
Soul legend Dionne Warwick is being paid £250,000 to sing at the extravagant soiree, and the prince's advisors are reportedly trying to persuade Barbara Streisand to also attend.
Azim, whose father the Sultan of Brunei is one of the world's richest men, has invited a host of celebrities to join in the celebrations, including Pamela Anderson, Jerry Hall and Kate Moss.
The 200 VIP guests will leave the casino and ball-themed bash with designer goodie bags, bursting with iPods, diamond jewellery and luxury cosmetics. A source said, "Azim wants his bash to be more glamorous than the Oscars."

Jul 4, 1:11 PM EDT Jackson Scouts Maryland Vacation Homes
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Michael Jackson has been hunting for real estate on Maryland's Eastern Shore as he searches for a vacation home, a publicist for the pop star said.
The self-proclaimed King of Pop visited the rural peninsula last week "for about 24 hours," but has not made a purchase, Raymone Bain told The Washington Post.
Jackson, 48, is not limiting his search to the Chesapeake region. He has since "gone up the coast" to look elsewhere for a vacation place, Bain said.
"He's always admired the properties on the East Coast because they have a lot of land," Bain said in the story published Wednesday. "Neverland has 3,000 acres - he likes privacy. You can't find as many properties like that on the West Coast."
Jackson came east with his children about 10 days ago for meetings because "the majority of his advisers and attorneys are on the East Coast," Bain said.
She would not elaborate on the purpose of the meetings, but said that Jackson was dealing with "a laundry list" of issues. "He's head of a vast corporation," Bain said.

Jackson 'living in filth'Michael Jackson was living in "absolute filth" with his children in a Las Vegas mansion up until recently, it has been claimed. Industrial cleaners were called into the pop star's 10-bedroom former home after he departed and say they were confronted with a considerable mess. They suggest that the faded pop icon and his three kids were sleeping on the floor on mattresses and a stained carpet and left two decorated Christmas trees behind. Jackson and Prince Michael I, 10, Paris Michael, nine and Prince Michael II aka Blanket, five, are now understood to have moved into an area known as Spanish Trail. The £30 million Vegas compound is owned by Brunei's Prince Jefri Bolkiah.

He is, and always will be, one of the biggest stars on Earth. His next album will be huge if it's ok and a smash if it's great. I'd like to see him doing a record all by himself but I'm sure that's not going to happen. What I want him to do is forget today's r&b and record some great pop melodies.
No matter what he does, it will be the most anticipated release of the year. And he's sane, compared to Britney.

Aug 15, 1:42 AM EDT Michael Jackson Sued by Former Lawyers
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Michael Jackson's former entertainment lawyers filed a lawsuit Tuesday claiming the singer owes them more than $113,000.
The law firm Lavely & Singer of Los Angeles says Jackson agreed in arbitration last year to pay them $180,000 in three installments.
Jackson failed to make the final payment of $113,750 before the July 31, 2007, deadline stipulated in the settlement, the firm alleges in a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
A message left for Jackson's publicist, Raymone Bain, was not immediately returned Tuesday. His lawyer, Christopher Mellott, could not be reached after hours Tuesday.
A judge last month ordered the 48-year-old pop singer to pay more than $256,000 in legal fees to another firm that handled some side issues during his 2005 child molestation trial.
Jackson was acquitted of child molestation charges in the case.

Only people Michael needs to work with is The Neptunes. All of those songs he rejected were hits!
