Yeah Jlh, I agree. Very good CD! I think the Peak/Concord "machine" really needs to re-evaluate their promotional budget for this project, and get behind it for the Holiday's and New Year.
They have a sleeper on their hands!!

nice interview with Latoya from a site in canada. www.souljoint.com/Article610.htmlLatoya London - Miss May The 4th on Monday, December 12, 2005 - 04:49 PM We all remember her from the prime time television show, American Idol, which made pivotal marks in music history with budding artists who have now made musical dents. Latoya London started singing at seven years old and started making trips to the studio at 12. Now at the age of 26, this Los Angeles resident is making good music and tries to stay on top to defeat the one hit wonder syndrome. Over the years, LaToya was a member of several choirs, including the Youth Choir at Allen Temple, the Oakland Youth Chorus and Skyline Gospel Choir. Latoya took a moment after an exhausting flight to talk to SoulJoint.com about American Idol, acting and May 4th, Latoya London day. SoulJoint.com: Being that you are from Oakland, did you face many musical challenges over there? How was the vibe musically? Latoya London: Yah, I did. There were situations that did come about. My mother was very skeptical of people of course because she thought that they looked at me as a dollar sign; that they wouldn’t really have me at their best interest. She kept me protected at that time, when I was younger and which I think was a good idea. Dealing with the record business entertainment industry period as a child is like, that child has to be very comfortable in knowing who they are and strong enough to deal with all the negative things that go on in the entertainment industry. I’m not sure I was ready for all that, know what I mean, ready for all the let down, the unfairness, the politicalness (laughs)…but she kept me busy in talent shows. I tried out for star search all the time.
SoulJoint.com: Since American Idol, a lot of doors must have open for you and many opportunities presented themselves to you. Since then what has transpired? Latoya London: Since then, I got signed by Peak Records and recorded an album. I have just been performing a lot of places and private events, non-profit events, doing a lot and staying real busy which is cool. I mean, people know who I am and they enjoy my talent because I have been exposed to them. American idol opened up a lot of doors and made me accessible and just put me out there where people could see me versus they couldn’t see me in Oakland…know what I mean? (Laughs)
SoulJoint.com: Speaking of American Idol, we all know that Simon Cowell was the mean one out of the three. How did you manage to stay focused and not have a mental breakdown if he was saying something harsh or mean as we have heard him say? Latoya London: I mean I try to stay positive enough if I do feel negativity thrown at me, I try to like to challenge it and make it positive because I really hate stressing out. So, what kept me just pushing threw every week, even though I had that pressure in front of Simon, I knew ultimately the decision wasn’t his. It was the American public. I felt like “Simon, your opinion is your opinion, but it matters in a sense you do influence people, but who knows what they were voting for this week, they might not listen to you this week”. I just kept doing what I had to do and tried to show off myself as much as possible each week.
SoulJoint.com: I read that you were pursuing acting as well, tell me about that. Latoya London: Yah. I’ve been to a couple of auditions and taken a couple of acting classes as well. I mean I definitely see it in my future.
SoulJoint.com: Would you choose one over the other? Latoya London: Um…no. I wouldn’t. Even if one took more priority over the other I wouldn’t stop the other, it would just become something that I did on the side. Of course the singing, right now that’s the priority, so acting would be something on the side. If I started acting a lot more and getting more roles etc, I would definitely continue singing because I mean, I have to sing, it’s just in me to do. It would probably take a bit of a back burner, we’ll see, I don’t know. (Laughs).
SoulJoint.com: I remember some actor saying that singers should stay singers and actors stay actors. How do you feel about a statement like that? Latoya London: I mean, I feel like, there is no limit to what you can do. I don’t feel like because I’m a singer I better not act, because I’m a singer. If you want to act, go ahead and act, if you can act. Now if you just horrible at it, that’s different, but if you are really good at it then I don’t see why you should stop any talent that you have, that’s just one person’s opinion. Honestly, a lot of actors, they do have an opinion on singers coming in and taking roles that they are looking at. That’s Hollywood, that’s what it’s all about.
SoulJoint.com: Just hating, I guess. Latoya London: Uh huh...hating...
SoulJoint.com: There is an official Latoya London day in Oakland. That’s huge right there. How does it feel to have a day named after you and what do you do on that day? Latoya London: You know, it felt unreal…when you say “May 4th is officially Latoya London day”, I was like ok, but next year y’all gonna forget. (Laughs). Or it’s like, where is it printed on the city calendar (Laughs). I don’t know, we’ll see May 4th what happens. Nobody called me last May 4th; you know…do I get any free anything? (Laughs). The thought was nice.
SoulJoint.com: Your sound is very soulful and beautiful. What target audience do you think you are aiming for and which do you find you will attract? Latoya London: Whoever wants to listen… I don’t really have a preference I just do me. I have some songs on the album that are very young sounding. I have some songs that are more mature sounding but all of those ages appreciate the songs. Some of the younger people and I do find the older people they be…”Yeah” jamming to the younger songs. (Laughs). I don’t really think that there is a limit as far as the demographics. I like to keep it open like that. All who wanna listen come on.
SoulJoint.com: What happened with the tour you were supposed to go on with Jaguar Wright on the VH1 Soul Tour? Latoya London: Yah I had a family emergency so I couldn’t go out of town. It was really last minute.
SoulJoint.com: Do you plan on doing any future collaboration with Jaguar Wright? Latoya London: Definitely.
SoulJoint.com: What about your new album, how has that been for you? Latoya London: It’s going well. I have been getting a lot of great responses from it. People are really excited. It’s going really well; hopefully I will be on a tour, next year...
SoulJoint.com: Sometimes artists don’t have much leeway in creating their album. Did you have much say over your album; do you feel the final product is a good reflection of what you wanted to do? Latoya London: I did. Going into the record deal they knew that I wanted to be very involved with my music. They even heard some older stuff that I did and I got with some of the producers and we wrote from scratch. About five songs I contributed to, the other songs were admissions. I mean, it was such a fast process that we had to get this album together, so it was like I was writing and we were also taking in songs so that we could get some really good songs, really quick. (Laughs).
SoulJoint.com: Your video “Appreciate”, it looked like a lot of fun to create with all those succulent men. Latoya London: It was so fun. It was so hot that day. It was a beautiful day; the sun was out, no clouds. Everybody was really positive. We just had fun. We had fun with the clothes; we had fun with the guys… (Laughs). My family and friends were there, so they got to hang out and videotape and just watch the whole process. It was all day so by the end of the day nobody gave a damn; they were like “Alright I’m going back to the trailer to go to sleep” (Laughs). Nobody was excited anymore. Some people were like they couldn’t believe how I kept it together all day long. It was a long long process.
SoulJoint.com: With all the attention you receive, does that interfere at all within your personal life, being that you are not single? Latoya London: No. I get attention dressed up as Latoya London, but most of the time I’m just dressed down and nobody recognizes me. Girl I go to the store, I go anywhere and you know…maybe one out of thirty people, will notice me if I’m not dressed up. It doesn’t affect me…yet. Even if that was the case, I’m pretty grounded, so it doesn’t affect me.
SoulJoint.com: Which musician would you like to work with or do you have plans to work with? Latoya London: I would love to work with Babyface. If R. Kelly could produce a song for me. Kanye West…just to name a few.
SoulJoint.com: Last words? Latoya London: I want to say…Thank you, thank you, thank you. Can’t thank you enough for continuing to believe in me and support me, even after American Idol, just seeing that I am a true artist and being there to support me in that.

Latoya's song I Cant Hide from her Love & Life cd was the most requested song for the year on Idol Waves the online idol radio station . it was not actually on their official top 20 list for top songs of the year which had to be released as radio or comercial singles to make it . on that list Kelly's song Since U Been Gone was #1 . but Latoya's song had more requests than all the official singles that have been released.

Latoya updates her diary and confirms State Of My Heart as her new single. www.latoyalondon.com/sites/ll/diary.htmlJanuary 6, 2006 Happy New Year!!! We are now in 2006 and it came so fast. Remember when everyone was scared for what the year 2000 would bring, (everything would shut down, the world would end). That is so not on our minds anymore. 2006 is all about getting your house in order and I mean that metaphorically. Your mind, your body, your spirit, and your finances, YOUR LIFE. Start looking at life and speaking more positively and you watch positive things happen. I’m excited for what 2006 will bring for me. We are releasing a new single this month, “State Of My Heart,” I’m sure we all can’t wait for that. I’ve also been on auditions for musicals and movies, so cross your fingers. I’ll be coming to a city near you and showing off my acting skills. I got skills ya’ll, LOL. Anyway, blessings to you all in the New Year. I’ll be in touch. La Toya London
