Songwriters association honors hit writers and key contributors
10 artists win triple play award for 3 top songs[/i] By CINDY WATTS Staff Writer Despite the rain, an estimated 2,000 people turned out for Nashville Songwriters Association International's World's Largest No. 1 Party on Tuesday. "It's remarkable," said Bart Herbison, executive director of the songwriters group. "I don't think I've ever seen such a huge gathering on Music Row. I saw people I hadn't seen in years." Held under a massive white tent in the Country Music Association's parking lot, the event recognized 66 songwriters who wrote the 27 songs that topped the country charts between July 2006 and June 2007, and three industry leaders the organization determined had made special contributions to country music. Among those presented with industry awards: Denise M. Stevens of Loeb & Loeb, who was given NSAI's President's Choice Award for her contributions in writing "The Songwriters Capital Gains Equity Act"; Donna Hilley, former president and chief executive officer of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, who received the Maggie Cavender Award of Service for her years of leadership and hard work in the publishing industry; and Connie Bradley, senior vice-president of ASCAP Nashville, awarded the Stephen Foster Award for her support of songwriters and NSAI as an organization. "I'm very flattered," Bradley said after accepting the award. "It's really different, because most of the time at ASCAP we're presenting songwriters with awards. For a songwriter to present me with an award is pretty awesome." Triple plays recognized
During the ceremony, the CMA announced the winners of its triple play award, given to songwriters who charted three No. 1 songs in a 12-month period. Brett Beavers, Dierks Bentley, Dave Berg, Alan Jackson, Mutt Lange, Kelley Lovelace, Brad Paisley, Jeffrey Steele, Shania Twain and Rivers Rutherford all managed the feat.Rutherford, who wrote recent No. 1 singles "Homewrecker" (May 2005), "When I Get Where I'm Going" (Feb. 2006), and "Living in Fast Forward" (March 2006) said that when he started writing professionally, "I thought, 'All I ever want is a triple play award.' Now I'm going to carry it around with me and tap (fellow hit songwriter) Bob DiPiero on the chest and say, 'How's your career go-ing,' " he joked. The way it's going, Rutherford might have a triple play award for each hand by next year. Since the cutoff date for the 2007 award, Rutherford has racked up two additional No. 1 songs with "Ladies Love Country Boys" and "These are My People," and he also wrote the Chuck Wicks song "Stealing Cinderella," which is at No. 33 on Billboard's country charts after only five weeks at radio. Recognizing the accomplishments of Rutherford and the other 65 honored writers, Herbison said, is important, because the number of professionals in the business is shrinking. "We've lost two-thirds of all professional songwriters over the last 10 years, and the average songwriter makes less than $5,000 a year," he said. "I can't tell you how many families came down and took pictures when we were presenting." And, the executive director admitted, NSAI just wanted to remind its Music Row neighbors how to have a good time. "A lot of the fun has left Music Row because of the paring down of the business, and a few years ago we started talking about wanting to bring the fun back," he said. "People came to our party to honor the songwriters, but they also came because they knew it would be fun." The "Tennessean"[/url]

what happened to the other thread? Genius here accidentally deleted his account and therefore I could no longer edit the title nor the front post of the thread. So I decided to start a new thread that way I could have control over it and a new thread wouldn't have to be started once the album actually comes into existence.

For those that missed Shania's interview on CMT "Insider" in May, HERE it is: CMT Insider Interview: Shania Twain
Superstar Talks About New Fragrance, Songwriting and a Campaign Song By: Tim Hardiman Editor's note: See the Shania Twain interview when the new episode of CMT Insider premieres Saturday (May 26) at 2 p.m. ET/PT.By her own volition, Shania Twain has avoided the spotlight in recent years to concentrate on the family life with her husband and 5-year-old son. However, she re-emerged earlier this month for an appearance at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas and media interviews to promote Shania Starlight, the second fragrance she has created for Stetson. Twain's name also surfaced recently in the national media after "Rock This Country!" -- her single released in 1999 -- was listed on Hillary Clinton's Web site as a potential campaign song in the upcoming presidential election. Twain is also working on a new album, although a specific release date has not been scheduled. CMT Insider spoke to Twain last week at Arena, a New York City nightclub. What did you learn from creating the first fragrance?Twain: I learned a lot about scents ... about zoning in on what I really love, what I like, because I haven't really thought about it so deeply before. I never had to decide what my favorite scents were. I basically just went into the shops, sprayed things on ... liked it or didn't like it. So I did learn a lot from the first fragrance, and I would say I even learned more with the second one because I had to dig deeper. I already had chosen so many of my favorite things that I wanted in a fragrance, I didn't know what was left to choose for a second fragrance. So I had to think more about what I wanted to say with the second fragrance. And I think the first fragrance being so playful and fresh ... it left some space for me to get a little bit sexier and do a nighttime fragrance. And I would say it's more of a fragrance for any occasion really because I really think you can wear this any time of the day. Glamour, I think, we find more at night. Things just shine better in the dark. (laughs) And the bottle reflects that. It's bold, but it does reflect the light. It's very sparkly. Not sparkly in the sense of sparkles, but it reflects the light. How would you compare Starlight to your first fragrance, Shania by Stetson?I just feel more experienced in life. Well, I am! (laughs) I'm more experienced now. And I've been digging deeper lately for my songwriting, and I feel that the sensuality of a woman is so important. We abandon that a lot for ourselves and for our men, too. We get caught up in our children. We get caught up in our careers. We get caught up in thinking too hard. We get caught up in our vanity even. And I think that's not a sexy thing to be -- distracted all the time. So I think that we can sort of get into ourselves and realize that, wow, we're pretty sexy beings and it's fun to be glamorous. So I wanted to go into a direction of more glamour. And I think it's very romantic to think of an occasion to be glamorous. I'm not someone who is glamorous all the time. I am a very playful, down-to-earth person, but I like to get glamorous. And I think Starlight expresses that side of me. At the ACM Awards, you said you're currently in the songwriting process for your new album and that you've been doing a lot of soul searching. Is the music coming from a more spiritual perspective this time around?I'm always soul searching on a spiritual level. That's a permanent occupation of mine, I think, for the rest of my life. ... But I think I'm digging deeper and being more reflective ... even more as a woman. ... I almost got a little bit tired of talking about the woman's perspective for a little while, myself. And I thought that the next record was going to be just deeper as a human being. But the more I dig deeper as a human being, the stronger I feel about a woman's perspective. (laughs) That is really crazy! So I just go full circle and back to that. I'm not a feminist. I can kind of just say that now. I was a bit confused about that for a while, but I think more than ever now ... I love the role that men play in our lives. And it just makes me feel even that more important as a woman. Hillary Clinton has asked her supporters to choose her campaign song, and "Rock This Country!" is one of the nine choices she's posted on her official Web site. Are you comfortable with your songs being used in the political forum? You know, I am, because I'm not the politician, and I just completely remove myself from that. I don't have anything against or for any particular person or point of view on politics. I have my own opinions, but my songs don't share them. So my songs are just my personality, and if somebody likes them enough to include them, I'm flattered by that. I don't feel it's any reflection on myself or my choices or anything like that at all. So I'm perfectly fine with it. -- Tim Hardiman is a producer for CMT Insider. Source: CMT

I'm really excited for Shania's new album to drop. Her first four have done extremely well, and hopefully the same will hold true for her next album. It'll definitely be an event when it's released.
Also, Shania looks amazing in those photos. It's like she hasn't aged in the past ten years.

Garth Brooks: Breaking Records Garth Brooks never seems to run out of milestones, and in fact has managed to score another country music “first.” by Bob Paxman October 9, 2007This time, it was for his latest single, “More Than a Memory,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, becoming the first track in history to accomplish that feat. The song is from Garth’s upcoming CD, Garth Brooks: The Ultimate Hits, set for a Nov. 6 release. But there’s one mark Garth no longer holds—the biggest-selling album in country music history. Here’s more on the new titleholder. Move Over, Garth For years, Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind album held the sales mark that no one ever thought could be beaten—13 million as of 1998 (according to Garth’s website, the total now stands at over 14 million). The album featured No. 1 hits like “The River” and “What She’s Doing Now” along with one of Garth’s most popular cuts, “Rodeo.” For nearly a decade, Ropin’ the Wind stood as country’s all-time best-selling album. That is, until Shania Twain came along with her 1997 release, Come on Over. Shania’s CD, with hits like the title track and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” captivated both country and pop fans. And soon, it became time for Garth to move on over. With the official tally at well over 20 million, Come on Over is now the best-selling country album of all time. But could Garth’s next offering, The Ultimate Hits, ultimately outshine Shania? Stay tuned. "Country Weekly"

Last Sunday - November 4, 2007 - marked the 10-year Anniversary since "Come On Over" was released. In honor of that, GAC posted a Q&A article where a fan asked if Mercury (Shania's label) would be doing anything special to mark the anniversary. Of course, the answer is...no. Anyway, here is the Q&A from the GAC site : Q: November 4 will be the 10th anniversary of the biggest-selling country album of all time, Shania's Come On Over. This album not only sold a record 38 million copies all over the world but had 10 hit singles on it and made Shania an icon. Why hasn't Shania or her label done something to honor that accomplishment? (Kevin, Miami, FL) A: Kevin, Shania’s long absence from the music scene is a big mystery, and all we get from the label is that there’s nothing to report about Shania’s next album. So, it’s not so surprising that there is nothing being done to recognize the 10th anniversary of the release of Come On Over. If they had intended on doing so, we would’ve already been talking about it in country news and on country radio would be ready to support that. So, at this point, we don’t expect any special event regarding that Shania milestone. GAC

"Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends" will be released on the following dates:
-- November 13, 2007 - Canada
-- January 15, 2008 - U.S.
(2007-11-05) 'Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends,' To Be released On January 15, 2008NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Manhattan Records/EMI America Records) - Music icon Anne Murray has sold more than 50 million albums in a distinguished career that spans four decades. On January 15th, Manhattan/EMI America Records will release Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends, an exceptional 17-track collection of her top hits and favorites, newly recorded as duets with some of the world's top female recording artists. Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends showcases a wide variety of Anne's favorite female vocalists. Among the album's tracks and collaborating artists are "Snowbird" with Sarah Brightman, "You Needed Me" with Shania Twain, "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" with Anne's daughter Dawn Langstroth, "Danny's Song" with Martina McBride, "Another Pot O' Tea" with Emmylou Harris, "A Little Good News" with Indigo Girls, "Cotton Jenny" with Olivia Newton-John, "Could I Have This Dance" with Amy Grant, "Daydream Believer" with Nelly Furtado, "A Love Song" with k.d. lang, "Time Don't Run Out On Me" with the song's writer, Carole King, and more. In 1979, Anne and Dusty Springfield each recorded the song "I Just Fall In Love Again." Anne's version became a hit single that garnered her Canada's Juno Award for "Single of the Year" in 1980. Anne and Dusty remained friends until Dusty's passing in 1999, and for Anne, releasing an album with this type of sisterly theme wouldn't seem complete without Dusty's inclusion. With the blessing of the Springfield family and estate, a new version pairing Dusty's original with Anne's newly recorded vocals is featured on the album. Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends was produced by one of the most respected music producers in the world, Phil Ramone (Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel), who counts 14 Grammy Awards and 32 Grammy nominations among his many honors. Together, Anne and Phil decided they would treat the songs on their own terms and not adhere rigidly to the arrangements of Anne's classic versions. While Anne had designs on how she imagined the arrangements, she gave Phil free rein to rework the songs. "We approached the sessions as if we were just handed these songs and told to make this record," explains Ramone. "While arrangements were changed, there are also licks on some songs that I didn't mess with. We stayed true to the song." Working with Anne for the first time, Ramone adds, was an easy task. "What I love about Anne is there are no words minced about whatever she feels," he says. "This is not a person you have to think, 'Will she tell me the truth?' When we met for a few hours in Michigan before we started, we agreed we wanted to bring some daring ideas and some freshness to this album." "I said to Phil," joked Anne, "The only reason I asked you was that I'm the only singer left that you haven't worked with!" "I've done duets throughout my career," Anne says. "I did duets when I started out on (CBC Television's) 'Singalong Jubilee.' I did a duets album in 1971 with Glen Campbell. Growing up I did lot of group singing at school and sang with my brothers. I've always loved singing harmony." Since releasing her debut album in 1967, Anne Murray has been honored with a spectacular number of awards. She is the proud recipient of four Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, three Canadian Country Music Association Awards and twenty-four Juno Awards. Anne has also been honored with the Legacy Award from the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2006), the East Coast Music Association Directors' Special Achievement Award (2001), induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame (2002), and induction into the Juno Hall of Fame (1993). Anne Murray will tour to several U.S. cities in February and March 2008 (confirmed tour dates listed below). mhmm. Whoever started the May 08 rumour... or was it march? Well either way... they were wrong. Shania can't even guarantee at this point that it will be released in 08 as seen in an interview she did in Canada promoting Starlight. But I sure hope its out by November.

Shania Twain Is Ready for Success this TimeTUESDAY NOVEMBER 20, 2007 02:00 PM EST By Karen Salkin Shania Twain, who took five years off from the spotlight, is ready to inch back into public life – sort of. "I struggled a lot internally with my fame, and coping with it has been very difficult," the 40-year-old singer tells Redbook in its December issue. "I was at the point where I would never look anyone in the eye. It was like living in prison." After retreating to her chateau in Switzerland with her husband and son, she is ready to re-emerge. Today, in addition to being mom to her 6-year-old, coming out with a new perfume and working on a album due to be released in 2008, she says she's learning to look after herself. "I'm not such a slave to pleasing everyone, which I think is a female tendency," she says. "I take more time for myself; that's a very big part of mental, emotional and physical health." As for getting back into public life, she says, "I'm not naturally a spotlight person ... [But] I don't mind being the center of attention in a controlled, comfortable environment." Asked what she imagines for her future, she jokes, "I'll probably be in the Canadian wilderness somewhere." But on a serious note, she says music is an integral part of her life, and she wants "to write and record things that affect people in a positive way." People.com

Shania Twain Slowly Gears Up For A ComebackNovember 20, 2007 4:09 p.m. EST Ashley Dickson - Celebrity News Service News Writer Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Country singer Shania Twain sat down with Redbook for their December issue and revealed that after five years out of the public eye she is ready to make her comeback to music. The 42-year old Canadian born singer enjoyed tremendous success in the late 1990's with her crossover album "Come On Over," which featured hit songs like "You're Still the One," and "Man1 I Feel Like a Woman!" "I struggled a lot internally with my fame, and coping with it has been very difficult," Twain said in the interview. "I was at the point where I would never look anyone in the eye. It was like living in prison." Twain escaped the pressures of stardom by retreating to hr chateau in Switzerland with music producer husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange and their six-year old son Eja D'Angelo. The much-needed break from the public eye has allowed Twain to focus on a new album due out in 2008 and developing her new fragrance "Shania by Stetson." "I'm not such a slave to pleasing everyone, which I think is a female tendency," she says. "I take more time for myself; that's a very big part of mental, emotional and physical health." Twain claims that she is "not naturally a spotlight person" but doesn't mind being the center of attention in a comfortable environment. The five-time Grammy award-winning singer has been known to feel uneasy about her role as a sex symbol and has repeatedly stated that "it is the music that will last forever, not an image." Source

Shania Twain talks about son Eja and and her family lifeBy Kaisa, CBB Contributor Country singer Shania Twain, 42, discusses her family life in the December 2007 issue of Redbook magazine. She is married to music producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange, 59, and they have son Eja D'Angelo, 6. Here are some excerpts from the interview: Do women face certain prejudices in the entertainment industry?Yes. "Women have babies, women get fat, women are emotional" - all those things. They're all true but you can't just take our goods and throw the rest of us away! That's what I like to sing about. I still feel the need to stand up, even in my own personal life. What's an example in your personal life of how you've stood up for yourself? In our household, just domestic things with my son. My husband and I are both good parents. He is great with our son. But it's up to me to give my husband responsibilities to take on. If I don't, they're automatically mine. In a way, we women take on more than we need to sometimes. We don't need to control everything. So choose what you want to control, and usually what you want to control the most are the things that you enjoy. I try to prioritize that way. For instance, I love doing laundry. Now that Eja's getting older, will you give him certain household responsibilities?Absolutely. He already likes cooking. He doesn't love cleaning up his toys, but he'll do it. A couple of months ago I started saying, "Eja, I'm your mummy, not your slave. I am not going to be picking that up for you." Now I'll ask, "Eja, will you please grab my water?" and he'll say, "Mom, I'm not your slave!"What do you hope for Eja's childhood?I would like him to be well-rounded, humble and honest, without having to be deprived to develop that character. When you don't come from struggle, gaining appreciation is a quality that's difficult to come by. So we go out of our way to try to keep him appreciative. We don't keep him in a bubble. What lessons did your childhood teach you that have come into play with Eja? I didn't have a choice growing up but to be more insecure because others had more. But I'm grateful for it because it also taught me humility. Now that I have and I'm not a have-not, I've learned how important it is to maintain humility. What are the holidays like for you and your family? Your siblings are still in Canada. Do you see them at Christmas?Last year we had a big Christmas all together, and that was really great. Usually, though, Mutt, Eja, and I do a very low-key Christmas. It's too commercial for us, personally. We get involved in the community.Source: Redbook magazine, December 2007 issue Thanks to CBB reader Angie. Article Source + Comment Page

LOVE Shania! Can't wait for some new music. She is such a timeless beauty, by the way.

I'm really looking foward to her new album. I'm not a huge fan of country, but I really like Shania's voice.

Wednesday, November 21, 2007 She's (coming) backCompiled by Angie Fenton afenton@courier-journal.comThe Courier-Journal Shania Twain is stepping back into the spotlight after spending much time soul searching and trying to get a handle on fame. "I struggled a lot internally with my fame, and coping with it has been very difficult," Twain tells Redbook in its latest issue. "I was at the point where I would never look anyone in the eye. It was like living in prison." The 42-year-old country singer's third album, "Come on Over," is the best-selling album by a female artist. But Twain still struggles with success. "It's a very strange paradox: I don't really want to share all my dirt with people, yet I want to be real. I want to be successful, but I don't really have what it takes to do it comfortably," she says. Source
