This looks like it's actually going to be the follow-up to "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good" at CHR/Pop radio. I don't really understand the move. Maybe they're trying to squeeze every last penny out of this fading band. www1.allaccess.com/sounds/nickfigu.ram

Their last album got bad reviews, didn't sell nearly as well as the first one, and they lost their Alternative audience with the last two singles.

I don't think anyone expected Nickelback to EVER sell as many as they did with their major breakthrough album. I'm not a fan, per se, but I'd bet that this album actually did better than most expected. You're being a little unfair.

Their last album got bad reviews, didn't sell nearly as well as the first one, and they lost their Alternative audience with the last two singles. What is your definition of "not nearly as well" I know they've sold over two million copies of the thing without having the #1 most overplayed song in the world to get soccer moms all over the US to buy it, so I'm not really sure where this opinion of yours comes from. They were solid on rock, and as to alternative, what were they doing there in the first place? Seriously? I mean their music is so NOT alternative, and that goes for ANYTHING they've put out. Ditto 3 Doors Down. I'm not really sure about these "bad reviews" you refer to either. Almost every review I've seen makes it a point to say the album is better than Silver Side Up, which it is, not that that is very hard. I think you are off your rocker. If Nickelback flops with their next album and singles, you'll have a case, but following Silver Side Up with a CHR/Pop top 10, HotAC top10, and strong singles at Rock and Active Rock, is not the hallmark of a fading band.

Their last album got bad reviews, didn't sell nearly as well as the first one, and they lost their Alternative audience with the last two singles. That's not quite accurate. The reviews part is mixed. It earned a 60 on Metacritic, which labels it right between Mixed/Average and Generally Favorable. A mediocre score, but a number of records, including the new R.E.M and Joss Stone records, have scored less favorable reviews than Nickelback (I guess because Nickelback is predictable and thus they got the record they expected) As far as sales are concerned, Nickelback still sold quite well for "The Long Road". It's sold over two million records domestically, gone multi-platinum, and when you consider the huge list of other Alternative artists like Puddle of Mudd, P.O.D, Fuel and Papa Roach selling very successfully only to have a follow-up sell squat, Nickelback are looking very healthy right now. The singles part is where I can agree with you the most, but even there Nickelback still managed to score two Top-5 Alternative hits off this record (the same number as from "Silver Side Up") that went recurrent. Remember when "Never Again", the third single from "Silver Side Up", despite going #1 at Active Rock, couldn't get beyond #20 on Alternative? That could have revealed a sign of weakness to the band's future to many, but they did well off the next release. Anyway, with Nickelback picking up a fourth Top-10 Active Rock hit off this record with "Because Of You" and strong recurrent play for "Someday" coming across multiple formats, I think at least the lead single off Nickelback's next release will hit, then from there it's questionable. But I would hardly consider "The Long Road" a flop. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

(exhales) Anyway, I also agree this probably won't do anything at CHR/Pop.
I wouldn't say necessarily because it's obviously a heavier song from the band (it does have quite a hook) but simply because this song is old and will sound stale to many listeners.
I say "Fuh-get about it!" and Nickelback should save their breath for "How You Remind Me III" or "Someday II" or whatever their next lead single will be.
My Prediction: Will Not Chart
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It has 88 spins including 67 on WZKL, 9 on WWST. 4 on KDND, 3 on KLAL, 2 on KHOP, and 3 other spins.

It could chart on Pop. This is a catchy song, you know.

Love the song but the album is so done with. If they were gonna release something else it should've been "Should've Listened"

What's the adds date?
I wonder if they were trying to stick with rock audiences by waiting until FWTDG for a Pop follow-up.
That said, it's likely that had this followed Someday instead, it would've been lost in Someday's shadow.

And half of the rhythmic songs on the chart aren't? This is in the same league as they are. Anyway, this won't get more than 300 spins in a week. Bring on the next album.

This is a very odd release considering that they released this single a while ago on rock formats. I figured they would have waited to release Feelin' Way Too Damn Good, but they released that too instead of continuing with this song.
This and "Too Bad" are my favorite singles from these guys.
Won't do anything though.

Why?
This song doesn't scream "pop hit" to me. The band (or its label) is trying too hard to get them on pop radio, and it's just making them look like dumbasses.
Awesome song, but trying to get it on pop will do one of two things [or both]: 1. Further alienate their rock fans and 2. Take away momentum from the lead single from their sixth album.

Nickelback trying to put out pop hits, is not smart to begin with, I agree with you.
This won't do anything, but like you said, why?
