Green Day Fans Get An Extra 'Holiday' To Celebrate
12.08.2004
'Holiday' will be third single off American Idiot; video is already in the can.
LOS ANGELES β After the holidays are over, there will still be one "Holiday" to look forward to this season.
Green Day will release "Holiday" as the third single from American Idiot and follow-up to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (see "Why Idiot Was The Smart Move For Green Day"), which is currently #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock singles chart. In fact, the "Holiday" video is already in the can.
" 'Holiday' is the prequel to 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams,' so we shot both videos at the same time," singer Billie Joe Armstrong revealed at last week's VH1 Big in 2004 Awards. "You get to see what actually happened before we ended up walking in the desert. We had a little party in a car and partied on top of the car and everywhere else."
"Holiday" will likely roll out after the holidays, while Green Day are touring Europe, Australia and Japan. Another North American outing is in the works for the spring and summer.
In the meantime, the band performed American Idiot in succession in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the night before the Billboard Music Awards there. Green Day have only played the entire album a few times so far (see "Total Idiot: Green Day Perform Their Punk Opera In Hollywood").
"We'll probably end up doing that from time to time for sure," Armstrong said. "[Performing American Idiot] is something we're always gonna revisit for the rest of our career."
Plans to turn the punk opera into a movie also continue to move forward (see "Green Day Considering Movie Version Of American Idiot").
"It's gone from talk about a movie to people actually writing scripts right now," Armstrong said. "We're definitely jumping on that."
