Do we discuss the year end chart in this thread, or do we discuss what the regular chart would have looked like if it had been published?

Usually, we discuss what the regular chart would have looked like, since I believe the year-end chart is covered in several other posts.

I think that Mario will be #3 by this weeks end and Ciara should be 4 or 5. DC should also break top 10 if they continue gaining like they are.

Just a question about the chart that was finalized yesterday, did Jesse make the Top 10 in time?

Just a question about the chart that was finalized yesterday, did Jesse make the Top 10 in time? Nope, he was #11... but the chart isn't published anyway, so it doesn't really make any difference. He will be top ten for sure in the first chart of 2005.

At the rate things are going, it looks like neither Gavin DeGraw nor Seether f/Amy Lee are going to make the final Top 40 of the year (according to Mediabase).

i noticed avril being buletless, too. very sad, it missed the top 10; the song is so much stronger than 'my happy ending'. A lot of songs have lost spins in the past few days. Unless it starts losing very quickly, it'll be hard to tell whether it's done for sure until the second week in January.

Is the R&R chart a top 50 chart? Like BB has its mainstream top 40, is R&R top 50 or top 40?

Is the R&R chart a top 50 chart? Like BB has its mainstream top 40, is R&R top 50 or top 40? For Pop, it's top 50, but for other formats, it's 40 or even 30.

Ugh I hate the break!! must.get.update Hehe, you think it's bad now, wait until the week between Christmas and New Years. If I remember correctly, last year Mediabase went a few days without updating at all.

I'm glad Ryan still is over 300. I'm hoping for top10 but it can be hard. DC will pass him soon since they have a bullet of 909.
GC bullet is now 79 and it seems they will lose their bullet soon. Too bad for such a catchy tune. Green Day is still going strong and has a bullet of 785. That's the only song I can see going places of the ones between 21 and 30.
Ashlee's bullet is 219. It is payola but I guess this is helping her album sales cause they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. I wonder how this song will do next month. The second season of show starts then and I think her tour starts in February.

Wouldn't that mean that maybe this isn't payloa.Β People are actually buying the album, which means people like the song.Β There are artists in the Top 10 (Gavin DeGraw) who aren't even in the Top 100 for album sales.Β I think thats where payloa may lie.

Why have payola if not to help album sales? Paying for a single to do good isn't helping a label's economy if albums aren't sold. Ok, I know that a popular song doesn't always equal good album sales, Gavin being an example.
What lies behind payola?

Marios bullet shrunk alot, its down to 771 from over 900 yesterday. Ciara still has her huge bullet which is +858. I can't believe that Soldier is gaining so much :o.

I think payola was brought in because they dont want Ashlee to have two flops side by side. I dont think the people buying the cd now are buying because of Lala-its simply not a big enough hit yet. The album has stayed steady the past few weeks, selling fairly well because she is one of the breakout artists of the year and parents will buy her for a stocking stuffer. The label probably does not want Ashlee dead at radio-so far she has had one hit and if she flops with Lala and another single...she will only have one hit and could go down as a one hit wonder, despite her popularity.

Really? Most everyone I have spoken to has called it a flop, especially since it BARELY hit #15 and then COLLAPSED at almost record speed out of the top 40. But if you want to call it a hit...you can. I would say it was a flop, especially following Pieces of Me.

I consider Shadow a flop because since POM made it to #1 Shadow should have easily made top 10.

I just don't think it's fair to consider any song that makes the top 20 a flop, regardless of what song its release is following.
Pieces Of Me was very catchy and went straight to number one... What if it had barely cracked the top 40? Then Shadow's #15 peak would've probably been considered a big hit. That doesn't make sense to me.
Songs' successes or failures shouldn't be judged by the successes or failures of the artist's previous release. Shadow was a hit.

Thats a very different point of view, haha. You are allowed to have it, I just dont agree. I think if an artist goes from dominating at #1 to barely squeaking at #15 before literally dive bombing OFF the chart...then that song is a flop. FOr any artist.
