I think thats why a lot of people consider it a flop-that and the fact that it literally collapsed off the charts. I think longevity plays the biggest role in whether or not a song is a flop. If the song had peaked at #15 but hung around for a long time (such as what "Walking Away" by Craig David did, for example), then I wouldn't have called it a flop. But since it was off the chart entirely less than a month after its peak, I'd call it a flop, compared to "Pieces of Me" at least.

I call it a successful flop. It got up there, but it didn't stay, it just looked like a song they played because of who it was, not because it was a good song.

Which is why pretty much everyone declares The Voice Within to be Christina's biggest flop of her album because despite peaking at #11, it fell pretty quickly afterwards.

i don't think "Shadow" was a flop...definitely a letdown from POM, but performed decently enough...then again it's possible that being a clay aiken fan has skewed my judging of what's a radio hit or flop, b/c there #15 is like, WOW!! but I can definitely see both arguments...
where is "La La" right now? that could be a more accurate indicator on the state of Ashlee's radio career.

It actually peaked at #12 for 4 weeks. I never knew it had a quick fall :o I think someone corrected me on that before. I could have sworn to God it peaked at #11 though. And like, two Christina sites I visit say it peaked at #11 (and they have all her other peaks correct) Did it peak at #11 during the two week break? I just dont know why its so firmly in my head that it did, as well as stated other places that it did. (though, I do believe it peaked at #12 because I think it was an administrator here who corrected me and they normally are correct haha) Anyways, yeah it fell pretty fast, just like Shadow and Me Against the Music. WHo else had pretty fast falls? I think there was a topic on that some time...hmmm I think that what single it is depends on the "definition of flopdom" as well. I think Ashlee's was a flop as well because it was the second single coming off a HUGE debut single with HUGE sales and HUGE promotion. To me, thats different from a 5th single from an album thats promotion has winded down and sales are pretty much slipping downwards. I dont know, they both could be considered flops, but there are levels of flopdom and some flops are more understandable-like an artist's 4th or 5th single hitting top 20-that may be underperforming looking at its other singles, but its pretty good to me still, since many albums do not go past 3 singles I guess its on a case to case basis, peak, longevity, and when it comes in a career with how much promotion. I think a second single peaking at 15 and collapsing is more concerning to a career in Ashlee's case than a 5th single only peaking at #12. Maybe thats just me. And I am officially putting too much thought into this. Im on Christmas Break though and I have two weeks to think about nonschool related nonsense

I consider Shadow a flop because since POM made it to #1 Shadow should have easily made top 10. if "low" by kelly clarkson was a flop, "shadow" is also a flop. these 2 singles both failed to reach the top 10 after a #1 single. IMO, "shadow" actually flopped. none of my radio stations here in vancouver actually picked it up.

where is "La La" right now? that could be a more accurate indicator on the state of Ashlee's radio career. #34 with a bullet of +218. The jury's still out on whether or not this one will be a hit... My hunch is that it won't, but it could surprise people after the break. --DanG

Lala is really struggling. It is very hard to see how it will go for the song. It seems to go well for her boyfriend and that's good.

Her bullet went down one time before, before starting to go up again. Will Avril recover once more?

I just don't think it's fair to consider any song that makes the top 20 a flop, regardless of what song its release is following. Pieces Of Me was very catchy and went straight to number one...ย What if it had barely cracked the top 40?ย Then Shadow's #15 peak would've probably been considered a big hit.ย That doesn't make sense to me. "Shadow" wouldn't have peaked at #15 if "Pieces Of Me" had barely cracked the Top 40. As Eric said, radio stations played "Shadow" because it was by an artist whose last song had hit #1. But people quickly realized that "Shadow" wasn't anything special. It had the same sort of run on my personal chart - peaked at number ten and started falling fast (however, not quite as fast as on the R&R CHR chart, since the lower portion of my chart wasn't as congested as the Top 20). I agree with Love Plastic Love - it wasn't really a flop, but a disappointing chart single. People just got tired of it much more quickly than "Pieces Of Me".

Does anyone else think that Ciara will go #1? Cuz I think she has a really good chance. And Wow :o at Soldier, while every songs bullet drops this one just keeps going up.

Her bullet went down one time before, before starting to go up again. Will Avril recover once more? I figure she'll have one last gasp, but essentially I think she's done. Although I'd love to be wrong about that. Looks like radio is switching to Since U Been Gone as the obligatory rocker girl song in the top 20.

I'm happy that Ryan is now no10. He has a bullet of 312 now. He also managed to come in the top30 on Billboard.
Avril is now in the top50 on Billboard. I don't know if she'll manage to go any higher next week. She is now at -3 on this chart.
I wanted GC, Maroon 5 and Ashlee to do well but it doesn't look that will happen.
Before we had Usher all over the chart now it looks like it will be Eminem for the upcoming year.

Usher's Caught Up has a bullet of +231 :o I didn't see that coming. Ciara still has her massive bullet and will probably be #5 by the weeks end. Mario should be #3 by the end of the week. After the break is over which songs are going recurrent? Goodies, Lean Back, any more?

After the break is over which songs are going recurrent? Goodies, Lean Back, any more? "Goodies", "Lean Back", and "1985" are all scheduled recurrents. "She Will Be Loved" and "Dare You To Move" will also go if they fall below #20, but they'll likely be saved for at least one more week by yearend airplay. "Broken" is scheduled to go recurrent on the second chart of 2005 (if it's below #20, which is probable).

I think 1,2 Step will become another #1, with IDWTB loseing it's bullet.
I heard Ciara wanted to become like Janet and last just as long, she make make it at the rate she is going, and if this HIP HOP loving doesn't go away. If only Lady could make the top 10.
Very True! It just kept going up, then down and then back up and now it's gone, bbut now we have to wait for it to die on HOT AC and then we want hear it. It's almost like Drift Away on the AC chart.

The spin totals have not been updated from yesterday. The LW totals have changed, but the TW totals are the same as yesterday and will likely remain the same for another few days as that's what happened last year. So naturally, expect all the gains to down as well as all the losses.

A few things is still happening on the chart. Doesn't look so dead to me.
Ashlee's bullet is now 24. Can't remember it being so low. before. Avril has the same spin total. Ryan's bullet is now 221. I think it was a little higher yesterday.
