Posthumous releases always rub me the wrong way, especially with artists like Amy who were so serious and meticulous with their work. I always feel like the artist wouldn't want a bunch of unfinished demos to be released to the general public. That said, a selfish part of me always wants to hear everything the artist left behind.

This, exactly. Something about labels using death for extra sales seems wrong to me.

I think posthumous releases are OK, as long as they are not treated as "new albums" or such, but instead simply as a glimpse at the artist's work process.

Amy Winehouse dead after 'drink and drugs binge'by Will Payne, Sunday Mirror 24/07/2011 TRAGIC Amy Winehouse was found dead yesterday aged just 27. Her death followed a binge on ecstasy and booze, friends have claimed. The troubled singer, who spent years battling heroin and drink addictions, is believed to have been found slumped at home by her bodyguard. But she was already “beyond help” by the time ambulance crews and police arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene. At 8.45pm a private ambulance arrived at the house and five minutes later Amy was brought out in a body bag. Police today confirmed that a post-mortem examination of the 27-year-old's body will not be scheduled before tomorrow. "Her passing was so sudden it still hasn't hit me," said mother Janis, who will now always remember how Amy said, 'I love you mum' at the end of an enjoyable day together. “They are the words I will always treasure,” said Janis. “I’m glad I saw her when I did.” On hearing the news, Amy’s distraught father Mitch Winehouse wept: “This isn’t real. I’m completely devastated. Speaking from New York, the taxi driver and part-time singer said: “I’m getting the next plane back. I’m coming home. I have to be with Amy. “I can’t crack up for her sake. My family need me. I’m devastated, it’s such a shock.” Last night a neighbour told how he heard noises from Amy’s home on Saturday afternoon. “At about 3.30am I heard crying from next door... terrible crying like somebody mourning. The ambulances and police cars arrived shortly after that.” Police described Amy’s death as “unexplained”. But friends who have seen her over the last few weeks say she had hit the self-destruct button over the last two days in wild drinking sessions around Camden, North London. A friend said: “She has spent the last seven days on a massive bender and people were saying she’s going to drink herself to death.” Sources claim she died from a “bad” ecstasy pill combined with huge amounts of alcohol and the fact she suffered from emphysema. There were tributes last night from some of music’s biggest names. Sir Elton John said: “She was one of the most seminal artists this country has ever produced.” Lady Gaga wrote on twitter: “RIP to the amazing #amywinehouse. Such a talented singer.” Mark Ronson, who produced her multi-million selling Back To Back album, said: “She was my musical soulmate and likea sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.” Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, who was with Amy earlier in the week, said: “It’s a very sad loss of a very good friend.” Kate Moss said on twitter: “RIP Amy Winehouse, So upset, my heart goes out to her, sad to see such talent vanish from the world.” Lily Allen said: “Its just beyond sad, there’s nothing else to say. She was such a lost soul, may she rest in peace.” Rihanna said on Twitter: “Dear God have mercy!!! I am SICK about this right now! Dear Amy.” Ex Premier Gordon’s wife Sarah Brown said on Twitter: “Sad, sad news of Amy Winehouse – great talent, extraordinary voice, and tragic death.” US singer LeAnn Rimes wrote: “RIP Amy Winehouse. So sad to see such a talent gone.” Chris Goodman, a spokesman for Amy’s management, said: “We are all shocked and devastated.” The star made her last public appearance on Wednesday with goddaughter Dione Broomfield at the iTunes festival at Camden Roundhouse. And we can reveal how on the night before she died Amy spent an hour on the phone to best friend Kelly Osbourne, who said: “I was speaking to her last night, she seemed absolutely fine, I don’t understand how this could have happened.” However another friend said: “There was always a danger of something like this. Her drinking is totally out of control. She’s constantly out of control on vodka. She’d drink bottle after bottle and mixing those quantities with drugs is lethal.” Just two days ago neighbours said they saw her arrive in a cab with Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace. She collapsed when she got out of the taxi and had to be carried inside. Soon after her death, police cordoned off the area, aiming to question everyone who had been in and out in the last few days. Around 150 fans gathered and Amy’s distraught boyfriend Reg Traviss also arrived. Amy’s bodyguard Ray Grange was being questioned as a witness. He is believed to have found the body and raised the alarm. In May she had admitted herself to The Priory clinic in South West London and was pictured swigging a bottle of vodka. Just weeks later her European tour was cancelled after a shambolic performance in Belgrade when she was booed offstage. Only hours before her body was discovered her management team released a statement calling off the tour indefinitely and saying Amy was “withdrawing from all scheduled performances”. Last night it was revealed that in line with Jewish tradition, Amy’s funeral could be held today if police are satisfied with the results of their post-mortem examination. Amy’s death puts her in the infamous “27 Club” of drink- and drug-troubled rock stars who all died at the same age. She joins Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Rep: Amy Winehouse Found Dead 'Alone in Bed' by Security GuardNew details regarding the tragic passing of Amy Winehouse have been shared. Chris Goodman, a representative for Amy, has just confirmed that the "Back to Black" singer was discovered dead in her bed on Saturday, July 23 by a security guard who had been appointed to look after her. "She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing," Chris informed TMZ. "He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed." While the exact cause of Amy's death is still pending autopsy results, words came out that she was seen buying drugs on the night before her death. The People reported the "Rehab" singer was thought to have purchased narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and ketamine from a dealer in Camden just after 10:30 P.M. on Friday, July 22. "Amy seemed determined to have a big one on Friday night. She was out in Camden on Friday evening, but seemed determined to carry on the party back at her flat," said a friend. "None of us know who was with her into the early hours of Saturday. But getting out of it was clearly her main priority of the night." Amy was found dead in her London apartment on Saturday afternoon. Police still can't determine the cause of death and called it "unexplained". Family of the troubled singer recently released a statement regarding her tragic passing. "Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece. She leaves a gaping hole in our lives," their statement read. Many stars have mourned the death of the 27-year-old soul singer. One of them was comedian Russell Brand, who reflected on her life in a Sunday morning blog post. "Now Amy Winehouse is dead, like many others whose unnecessary deaths have been retrospectively romanticized at 27 years old," part of his posting read. "Whether this tragedy was preventable or not is now irrelevant. It is not preventable today. We have lost a beautiful and talented woman to this disease." www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00042335.html

This is not the same. I dont like when people are unable to make the distinction between the label doing it for money, and the label doing it out of honoring and respecting her. Only the label knows what they really have before them. Only they do - not us or the press. Reports are mixed on what is actually there, but there were some reports that said the album was completely done and they were waiting on her to get well to release it, and that she was performing new material at gigs. For them to say "its done" means she also felt it was done and if she was performing new songs, which all reports indicate they were to be performed, then surely she was behind them. I agree with the the poster who said it should not be treated as a "new album" with disrespectful and overblown music videos and promotions. Anything released must be treated with the utmost respect. The selfish part of me wants to hear any and everything she has recorded because it's been 5 years since we have heard from her with very few interviews. I have not heard what she is actually feeling for a long time, and that would be really special for me to hear. But that's the selfish part of me - the person I am who has huge respect for her and regards her as one of the greatest believes that work should never see the light of day if she did not approve of it or someone who sincerely would make that judgement like Mark Ronson or Remi. In other words, record execs or anyone at the label should not be making the decision because I don't trust their intentions.

I was completely shocked when I first read she died, and still very very sad. The fact that so much had been written that she was heading that way just made it more upsetting to me, because I felt like "No, no....she couldn't REALLY be gone, just like that!" Something about her I found really touching.....I hate the fact that she's gone.

Adele just posted this on her official blog
AMY FLIES IN PARADISE X
not many people have it in them to do something they love, simply because they love it. with no fuss and no compromise. but she knew what she was capable of and didn’t even need to try. if she wanted to do something she would and if she didn’t she’d say fuck off. it came easy to her and that’s why we all loved her so much. we believed every word she wrote, and it would sink in deep when she sang them. Amy paved the way for artists like me and made people excited about british music again whilst being fearlessly hilarious and blase about the whole thing. i don’t think she ever realised just how brilliant she was and how important she is, but that just makes her even more charming. although im incredibly sad about Amy passing im also reminded of how immensely proud of her i am as well. and grateful to be inspired by her. Amy flies in paradise xx

^ That'S why I love Adele! I'd like to have an album with all the finished tracks and the demos, but I don't want anything like "Michael"... The whole Michael thing rubbed me the wrong way, but then again, his fans really ate up everything Michael that year. I am interested as well to hear demos. I mean, who isn't really. But with utmost respect. Sad to see her go, but not like I was surprised really. She was dead to me long time ago, figuratively ofcourse

I wish Amy could see the outpouring of love and respect from her peers in the music industry. I feel like she didn't realize how much people loved her, and that's really sad.

what annoys me is that everyone saw this coming and I dont believe enough was done to help her. Makes me sad and angry at the same time. Perhaps it was inevitable!

AMY WINEHOUSE AUTOPSY INCONCLUSIVE, PARENTS MEET MOURNERSThe tragic passing of Amy Winehouse over the weekend is still being investigated. Detectives may not know what killed the 27-year-old singer for another few weeks. An autopsy completed on Monday did not draw any conclusions. Results from lab tests on her blood and tissue are due in about two to four weeks, according to Scotland Yard. “It did not establish a formal cause of death and we await the results of further toxicology tests,” a police statement said. Winehouse’s parents visited the makeshift shrine outside their daughter’s home in London’s Camden neighborhood on Monday to thank mourners for their support. “I can’t tell you what this means to us. It really is making this a lot easier for us,” said her father Mitch Winehouse. “Amy was about one thing and that was love. Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends and to you guys as well, so we’re devastated and I’m speechless. But thanks for coming.” Police were called to the singer’s Camden Square apartment on Saturday afternoon in response to a report of “a woman found deceased.” Her father was informed of his daughter’s death while preparing for a New York show with his band at the Blue Note club. Fans and celebrities flooded Twitter to pay tribute to the Grammy-winning songstress, who died at the same age as legendary icons including Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. www.rap-up.com/2011/07/25/amy-winehouse-autopsy-inconclusive-parents-meet-mourners

Bojangles,
Now you know you'd have a seizure if someone posted Whitney's worst pics in her thread (that you live in). Don't deny it girl.
Can't we just let Amy rest in peace? This thread should be a tribute to her.

I think the point was more that people were right in predicting that she'd die early in this very thread, not to repost bad pictures.

^ I hear you. The other Amy thread was locked due to silly arguing. Can't we just keep this one a little more respectful? That's all I'm saying.

This thread should be a tribute to her. I didnt notice the dates on the pics that I reposted, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. But in reality, it's sad she only lasted 3 years after that poster said it :( this really upsets me that she died so young, I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything. As far as bringing up Whitney, do you know how many times I've seen and heard people say she was also on death's door and constantly post pictures of her from 8, 9, 10 years ago? next.

We're cool ;)
I really can't believe her death affected me the way it did. If she were 60 I wouldn't feel this way. 27 is just too f*cking young.
