From MGMT's debut Oracular Spectacular, which was released earlier this week. This song's actually from a 2005 EP, but was resurrected as the album's first single. It's Top 50 and spins are growing: 60 48 MGMT Time To Pretend 2008 Columbia 218 132 86 1.390 I love it, reminds me of the Flaming Lips, for the dreamy/psychedelic influence. youtube.com/watch?v=XVnRzEjpUmE

Yep , great track. It should easily become their first top40 hit. Alternative radio seems to be pretty open-minded towards tracks such as this as of lately. Definitely a good sign.

Usually it takes me a few listens to get used to something that sounds like this, but I immediately liked it on the first time. I could see it having a pretty good chart run. It's quite different than a lot of the other stuff out there doing well on the chart currently.

I think they were the first band when Of Montreal came through. I didn't manage to see their set, however.

They're so freaking good. BUY Oracular Spectacular.
And don't get me started on "Electric Feel." It's spectacular...that's all.

I've seen a lot of comparisons to the Klaxons, so I'm a bit disappointed so far. However I've only given the album about 3 run-throughs so there is probably growth potential I haven't encountered yet.

How does one pronounce the name of this act?

Eh, it's slightly creative. I gotta give them credit for that. I like the song, so I don't really care how the band name is pronounced much.

It's unsatisfying how this isn't getting more of a look after a strong start. Does have 5 adds though at least, all from call letters beginning in "K" (what is with the east coast continuing to let me down?). Hopefully its momentum loss is just a result of all the attention shifting towards the new releases from R.E.M. and 10 Years and that it'll pick back up.

I have to agree, if they want big response across all the formats, Electric Feel needs to be single number two. It's that good, here it once all the way through and it can stay with you all day.

This is a pretty grand song. Love that recurring synth line. So impressed am I that I'm actually taking the time to listen to everything else on their MySpace.
:( ...Too bad none of the other 4 (3?) songs available are anywhere near as good as "Time to Pretend." Looks like I'll just be downloading the one track, then.
Hm. I assumed they were British, but they're from Brooklyn. So why am I reminded of '70's-prime David Bowie and Gaz Coombes from Supergrass when dude sings?

I'd feel better about it if it was actually getting adds, but this is holding up just fine now. About equally as well as Vampire Weekend is doing (I see my in-town station has recently added both). It really is a tight-ass record.

The single's Top 30, the album peaks at #158 this week on the Billboard 200. Total sales are at about 40k.

It took me forever to notice, but this song reminds me a lot of "Standing Outside A Broken Phonebooth With Money In My Hands" by Primitive Radio Gods. Not musically, but the feeling I get from both is VERY close.

Not musically, but the feeling I get from both is VERY close. I can see the comparison. They're both very similar overall in sound. That reminds me, I haven't heard that song in what seems like forever. That's one my favorites from the 90s that doesn't seem to get played much anymore.
