The lead single off of their highly anticipated Anthems for the Damned...set to debut later this month. "Highly" anticipated? Who's highly anticipating this? Other than the handful of folks here who (will) declare so? Because the public sure isn't highly anticipating anything they do anymore, based on The Amalgamut's reception almost 6 years ago.

Their fans are highly anticipating this because they had to sit through a six-year gap and Army Of Anyone to get it, and they're the important ones because they're the ones who are going to buy the music while the public gets it from the Internet.
But you know, if Buckcherry can make a comeback after six years, I don't see why Filter can't. And Filter's a much better band than Buckcherry too.

Filter is a pretty big deal though. It's like if Bush came out with a new album. I think people would be psyched about it, even if their last album did poorly. And "Goodbye" by Army of Anyone did really well on the active rock chart, showing that people still like to hear Richard Patrick's voice. And remember, '90s acts have been doing much better on alternative lately than they were a few years ago and even back then. I think that most people who know who Filter is and know that they are coming out with an album are certainly curious to hear what they sound like six years later. That said, I'm usually a pretty good hit predictor, and I totally had "Where Do we Go From Here" pegged to go to #1. It was a killer song, but I guess I was off on that one.

Where did "Where Do we Go From Here" peak anyway? I heard it enough times on the radio to figure it was a decent-sized hit.

If Buckcherry can make a comeback after six years, I don't see why Filter can't. Because Filter won't be writing a misogynist, strip club anthem novelty song. Filter is a pretty big deal though. They were a big deal from '95-2000. Then The Amalgamut didn't measure up. It's like if Bush came out with a new album. I think people would be psyched about it, even if their last album did poorly. Bush had a lot more hits, though. You really only hear 3 Filter songs on the radio anymore, if you're lucky, compared to probably 8 Bush songs, if you're lucky. Bush would be lucky to get a "Tarantula" type response. Filter will most likely receive even less attention. And "Goodbye" by Army of Anyone did really well on the active rock chart, showing that people still like to hear Richard Patrick's voice. I think that most people who know who Filter is and know that they are coming out with an album are certainly curious to hear what they sound like six years later. Army of Anyone had B-team supergroup interest, though, with the DeLeo brothers. Yes, people will be curious. That doesn't mean they will necessarily sustain interest to give Filter another bona fide hit. Sure, the out of the gate response should be very positive, but I'd expect that to stall dramatically several weeks later. Don't get me wrong, Filter are a decent group. I'm curious. But I'm not expecting a new single to particularly impress me anymore. I like their singles. I never got the second or third albums, though, and never play Short Bus anymore. If I went the rest of my life without hearing "Hey Man, Nice Shot" again, that'd be okay with me. LOL...does anyone have any non-Wikipedia peaks? R&R: #12, 12 woc

Well, we haven't heard the single yet. There's still a chance.
But seriously, Buckcherry has had a couple of other hits this time around. "Crazy Bitch" obviously got the ball rolling, but "Everything" and "Sorry" have also done phenomenally well. Actually, judging from the numbers, "Sorry" seems like a bigger hit at the moment, at least from the pop crowd.
I'm just saying that it's not impossible for a band that seems unlikely to make a dent to somehow crack the wall of pop and make a comeback. If you told me Buckcherry was going to do that, I wouldn't have believed it. But then again, you mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins too. If Buckcherry can be successful and the Pumpkins can't, then I don't really know. Course then again, Nine Inch Nails technically made a comeback, as did Tool and Pearl Jam. I don't think they really chose the right singles for the Pumpkins anyway.

Buckcherry has had a couple of other hits this time around. "Crazy b***h" obviously got the ball rolling, but "Everything" and "Sorry" have also done phenomenally well. Actually, judging from the numbers, "Sorry" seems like a bigger hit at the moment, at least from the pop crowd. "Everything" was a good tune, and "Sorry" isn't bad, but without "Crazy Bitch," as you hint at, I'm not sure if they would've done much. Course then again, Nine Inch Nails technically made a comeback, as did Tool and Pearl Jam. I don't think they really chose the right singles for the Pumpkins anyway. Pearl Jam's singles, while bigger than the Pumpkins', sure didn't have a lot of staying power, however.

This is good. I really liked The Amalgamut when it came out back when I used to buy albums all the time.
