wow, it's only the middle of january, and 2005 has had some really really interesting chart stuff happening. Mariah's back, J-Lo is back (w/o hubby!)...both seem destined to hit at least top 10 on Hot 100. Tim McGraw hits #1 on mainstream and regular top 40, has his highest charting Hot 100 single, has crossed over to AC and Hot AC, and will soon be debuting on mainstream as a solo artist. Rap artist Nelly has crossed over to AC and Hot AC now.
Also, it appears that we will see the digital singles impact on the Hot 100 very soon, as Billboard introduced a new "hot digital singles" to replace the hot digital tracks....this combines all versions of a song, also, lists them as gold (100k), and platinum (200k). Could very well see artists such as nickleback, 3 doors down, maroon 5, etc hit top 5 if not #1 with this change. Digital singles bring single sales back up to their highest level in the last 6 years. So flash back to early 1999. The highest airplay only songs on the Hot 100 were peaking between 10 and 8, but would soon be able to get to #1 by the following year just on airplay alone. Also, Billboard is introducing a Pop 100 chart. I'm not sure if this will combine airplay from AC, hot ac and mainstream 40 with digital singles or not....that's what my guess is though. I guess we will see. My guess, these changes will happen by the end of the first quarter this year.

Also, Billboard is introducing a Pop 100 chart. That's news to me. Where did you find this out? My interest is piqued. I wonder if this would be like the "old school" style hot 100 (pre 1992)?

Hmm, if this chart's any good, maybe I'll lift my boycott on Billboard.
