so one of the jerks that I questioned about this(he is selling a promo for $80) responded with this to explain why one might do this:
1. Seller is part of promotional campaign to expose Mika in the USA
2. Seller works with Mika's U.S. mgt.
3. Seller works with Mika's U.K. mgt.
4. Seller works with Mika's U.S. marketing firm.
5. Seller has done either production, mastering mixing, assembling, marketing for this artist.
6. Seller earned money and considerations (trade or barter) for their work.
7. Seller earned NO money for their work, but recvd promo pieces with permission to sell them.
8. The company's only stipulation was that a certain price point had to be maintained so that the artist retained a high level of exclusivity keeping their items desired and valuable. The same reason diamonds are hoarded and stored away be DeBeers. To artificially maintain that they are valuable and rare.
9. Music company wanted a few Mika promo items placed on ebay all above a certain price point. To create a buzz, and a perception that Mika items are scarce and valuable in the U.S.
10. Seller works for Record label, music or distribution company.
11. Seller was laid off from 1 of those.
12. Seller was given promotional item priviledges for a year, 2 yrs, 3 yrs, as part of severance package.
13. Seller is personal friend or artist or producer.
14. Seller is a relative of 1 of these.
15. Seller went to school with 1 of those.
16. Mika wanted a few promo CD's to "leak" on ebay so to create a buzz about his new material that is being released very soon.
17. Seller is a DJ or radio mixer, who promotes new music to targeted possible consumers and fans, and receives no money for these efforts.
18. Seller receives these free promo items to do with whatever he pleases, as a thank you because all involved are grateful for the exposure seller has given Mika in the U.S.
i told him he is just as bad as a ticket scalper
