This one is kind of flying up Alternative right now...although it really does seem like it's just a west coast thing for the most part based on the leaders...
It should be good enough to chart before next week.

This will debut in the top40 once the recurrents are removed later today. It will be their first top40 hit in almost 7 years and should easily peak higher than 'Alien'. Congratulations!
Btw, what was the last 'skate-punk' band to land a top40 hit on the Modern/Alt-rock chart?

Um, I'd think Rise Against would count. If you don't think their recent hits qualify, then take it back to "Give It All," I don't care.

I think Sum 41 would like to at least think they count.

After doing some research I think that no other skatepunk band scored a top40 hit since Pennywise themselves did it back in 2001. I probably overestimated the actual popularity of bands like NOFX, Lagwagon or Millencolin due to the inclusion of some many of their songs in various skate movies and video games. I'm not that familiar with Sum41's back catalog but from what I've heard considering them a part of the skatepunk/skaterock scene would be a bit of a stetch. They've never seemed to be that closely affiliated with the skateboarding community other than the fact that they started out as an NOFX cover band and from what I remember they proclaimed the intention to further move into the (rap)-metal direction after their second album was a huge success.

Heh; I was gonna say NOFX or Millencolin, but I assumed that neither of them ever charted.

I really like this song. Yes, I know it sounds almost every other Pennywise song I've ever heard, but this may be my favorite song of theirs ever. I'm glad to see it starting off pretty well.

Good new tune. Have no idea why they're getting mainstream radio love again after 7 years, but I'll take it. Not that anyone else here is familiar enough with the other track to have picked up on this, but when Jim sings "and the anchormen can't stop crying/lying" and "and the vultures can't stop feeding," at the ends of their respective phrases, it sounds an awful lot like Greg's line in Bad Religion's "Stranger Than Fiction" when he sings "and the lamp post can't stop crying" at the end of a phrase in the first verse.
