So i'm starting to think (at least my hit radio station) only airs past hit songs that have made it to the top 10 on billboard hot 100 ONLY. So i'm not talking about new songs that are still on billboard like tattoo or teardrops on my guitar. Songs that are old like past Christina Aguilera or Rihanna songs that made it top 10 of billboard hot 100.. Is that what its about?
For ex: Avril lavigne's Girlfriend and My Happy Ending is played because both made it to top 10 billboard hot 100, but When You're Gone and Keep Holding On didnt make it up to top 10.. so they arent played.. RIGHT?

Can't say the Hot 100 has ANY bearing on what a station plays as most Program Directors will use more reliable things such as pop airplay peaks, callout numbers and the like... There are quite a recent few Hot 100 "#1's" that get next to no airplay today.

Yeah radio programmers look at hits in their particular genre (the CHR chart, the HAC chart, the Alternative chart, the Urban chart, etc.)...and a lot of radio programmers use R&R not Billboard (at least not the Hot 100) Your Body Is A Wonderland by John Mayer is a huge recurrent in ATL (it was in Charlotte too when I lived there), and pretty sure that didn't hit the Top 10 of the BH100, esp. cause that was before the "download era"...Black Balloon by the Goo Goo Dolls is prob. another good example of that Anyhow, Alternative and Triple A constantly replay Alive, Even Flow, and Jeremy by Pearl Jam...HAC, Triple A, and Heritage Rock constantly replay Hard To Handle by the Black Crowes, etc....and both Triple A and Classic Rock love to play Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads and similar 80s modern rock songs that prob. didn't even crack the Top 40 of the Hot 100 back then

I'm saying... like i notice this all the time, they must play "Dontcha" at least once a day, same with Buttons, but never Stick with You? Even though that charted high? Is there some CHR list i can see that monitors what songs are in the line-up old and new hits?

Q100 (local CHR) actually plays Stick Wit U, but not Dont'Cha or Buttons...so it must be a local station thing If u wanna see what songs by an artist are replayed the most (nationwide), I know there's a Recurrent Mediabase link (just not sure what it is lol...)

It all comes down to what "tests well" and in some markets, what the consultant tells the PD to play.
It also may come down to where the rotation is with the recurrents and golds. I know we rotate our (HAC) golds and recurrents on a regular basis. In terms of a HAC staple like Matchbox Twenty, one month we may play Unwell, 3 AM, and Back 2 Good and not touch any of the other older ones. Once we rotate the recurrents and golds, those three will go on the back burner and we will play Bright Lights, Bent, and If You're Gone. Just an example of how any good station will rotate old songs in and out just like new songs to keep things fresh.
