Second single, I guess...
Accelerate is expected to debut at #1 in the UK on next week's chart. In the US, I think they can get a Top 10 debut pretty easily since sales are down and it doesn't take a lot to open high on the chart. Could they maybe go gold too? :o

The title sounds like a ballad. I don't see how.

Its psyches you out....it totally starts out as a ballad. Then speeds up big time at the chorus and then back again. Its a ballarocker. I'm a big REM fan but this song is just okay, if not even a little meh. It actually sounds like it could be the theme song of some TV show. Maybe a few more listens will grow it on me but not loving it on the first few listens.

Out of curiosity of the album's hype I checked the album out, and I was surprised how energetic the record was. And it didn't even sound forced. Easily the most rock driven R.E.M. record since the Bill Berry days.

they should be releasing "Accelerate" , the title track as a single.....Hollow Man is okay but Accelerate is much better and would have been the perfect second single IMO.

This isn't doing much:
68 69 R.E.M. Hollow Man 2008 Warner Bros. 103 91 +12 0.234
I guess "Supernatural Superserious" wasn't the sign of their return to radio, after all. It's a shame, because they gave a major contribution in building the format and now it has changed so much that there's no place for them anymore.
Anyway, check out "Hollow Man"'s b-side "Indian Summer". It's a lovely Velvet Underground pastiche, basically mixing "Sunday Morning", "Heroin" and "Venus in Furs".
