www.metacritic.com/music/artists/weezer/makebelieveIt's amazing how many ANGRY reviews this album received. Look at the red scores & their comments: 30 The New York Times Infuriatingly plain. [16 May 2005] 26 cokemachineglow Make Believe finds Cuomo donkey-punching the formaldehyde-soaked corpse of his former glory. 10 Playlouder You can feel how dreadful this record is from the very first bar. 4 Pitchfork Sometimes an album is just awful. Make Believe is one of those albums. The first time I let any "critic" try to tell me what I should and shouldnt like please.....just shoot me. You'll find critics for EVERYTHING, doesnt matter what it is. Hell I'm sure the Beatles "Sgt Pepper" album got bad reviews when it first came out. Now most consider it a classic. Even at that you'll still find people who hate it. Weezer has tried different things, some work, some not so much but they are one band who pretty much salted their eternal place in my heart with the "Blue" album. At least we can agree that the BEST Weezer albums have been the self titled, so we'll hope for the best out of the new "Red" CD. They could still easily have a GH package though, no matter what. Hell, the first album could pretty much include every track on it. World Has Turned and Left Me Here is probably in my top 10 90's tracks.

I have to add Thrice on there.
They released the equivalent of a double album in the past 6 months...on top of Vheissu, Artist and the Ambulance, random B-sides, The Illusion of Safety...

I have to agree that Maladroit was the ONLY =W= misfire. Make Believe, in spite not being the first three records, has some good album cuts, though. "The Other Way," anyone?
I hope that if Thrice does that they could at least release a limited edition so that I could buy it. I'm a die-hard fan.
Beck should do it since he's got so many albums and it might help the people out who can't get into some of his works. And give me a reason to forget The Information existed. Not bad but very lackluster.
Since they keep licensing their songs to commercials I'm kind of hoping the Flaming Lips do this.
One of my friends told me he'd like it if there was a greatest-hits release from NIN.
The last one to excite me was Garbage because they're a brilliant singles band on top of an excellent album band. Same can be said for anything Depeche Mode.

Am I the only one who liked Maladroit more than Make Believe? I mean, "Beverly Hills" and "We Are All On Drugs" are maybe the first two times I ever thought a Weezer song completely blew. Of course, then again, I'm not completely in love with "This Is Such A Pity" like everybody else either, as am sure people might remember my fervent appreciation of "Perfect Situation". The war goes on...

I never cared for "This Is Such a Pity" either.
"Beverly Hills" is far from their strongest, but it still had enough of that Weezer feel to it and I appreciated it enough to jump on the bandwagon as it climbed the pop chart.
"We Are All On Drugs" was about right on par, as far as their singles go.
"Perfect Situation" was a great record, but it's the only song of theirs I ever hear (besides the Blue Album singles and "Hash Pipe"), and it isn't that overwhelmingly great that I'm not sick of it now.
And I have simply not been able to get into any Weezer album in full besides Pinkerton.

I'm going to also go against the critical consensus and say that I enjoyed "Make Believe". In fact, and this is going to be heresy to most Weezer fans, I think it's better than the Green album. The singles from Green Album were great, but the rest was kinda blah, and even judging singles vs. singles, I'll take "This Is Such A Pity" and "We Are All On Drugs" over "Hash Pipe" any day.

I seem to have ranked it as 5th at the time: 1. Perfect Situation 2. This Is Such a Pity 3. The Damage in Your Heart 4. We Are All on Drugs 5. The Other Way My Alternative station still burns me out on "Perfect Situation" because they never leave it alone for long enough. Beck should do it...and give me a reason to forget The Information existed. Not bad but very lackluster. I still don't have that one, as I wasn't even impressed enough with Guero. Believe it or not, I only finally familiarized myself with that record this past week. And this is after buying it the first day it came out, three years ago. I only gave it a 3.5/5. Am I the only one who liked Maladroit more than Make Believe? I seem to have ranked them both 3.5/5, so I'd have to listen to them both again to be sure, but my instinctual feeling is that Maladroit was the overall better album.
