i played Kelly's ave Maria performance for my mum, her partner and grandma and they loved it. My mum isnt really a fan of Kellu (mainly because i have a tendency to overplay her when im at home ) but she turned around and said that it was a really good performance. she did say that you can tell that she hasn't got an operatic voice. but i said it wasn't meant to be operatic...it was for a YOUTH RALLY and she agreed that it fit the occasion perfecty.
And ive jsut read over on the KCE that kelly said in an article that she can hit the Natural Woman whistle note, but saves it for special occasions.

I'm glad she doesn't do the whistle note often. It comes off to me as showing off. I felt that way about Mariah when she used to do it in practically every song earlier in her career. Although I do like some of Mariah's earlier work. Everytime she would do it I'd be like ok Mariah we all know you can call the dogs.

I'd like to read that article, I always wondered about that range she keeps pretty hidden (the judges were as surprised as we all were). I think her choosing not do it is more than just not showing off. For one, yes you can either hit those notes or you can't, but they still take practice if you want to be able to throw them out there and hit them, and she probably doesn't practice them all that much. Secondly, that is sort of Mariah's thing (or has been for the past 15+ years), and I'm sure as someone coming off a show where they constantly compared her voice to Mariah/Celine that she did not want to be accused of tapping into anyone else's style or trademark. I think it was a wise choice, but I do hope a "special occasion" comes along again where she can show it off!

You may be right about her not doing it more for comparison reasons but I still think that it's a "showy" kind of thing to do.

I thought Kelly sounded GREAT singing Ave Maria. Thanks for all of the videos. But she sounded good on ALL of the songs. It seems to me like she's getting her confidence back and that's a wonderful thing. Her blue dress was pretty.

I like Mariah but it did get irritating - sort of like Michael Jackson with his "hee-hee!" he put into everything starting around the "Bad" era.

He was talking about Leona Lewis and how he worked with Clive Davis on getting her signed... I think Ryan said something about Clive and it was completely silent in the audience lmao. I caught that as well, Kal-El.

It was right before Leona came on, and Simon was thanking Clive for his "help" on Leona's project. I think Ryan and Simon were literally the only two that clapped, I literally laughed out loud.

Well obviously not everyone likes her, but I'd say you're probably in a minority considering the song has gone to #1 in like 30 different countries and is going to sell well over 2 million downloads in the U.S. And yes, Ryan Tedder and Jesse McCartney wrote the song.

True, very true Mikey! Thanks for the info on Ryan, and interesting to know Jesse M. was involved too! I also couldn't stand the song Umbrella, so I guess I must just like being a rebel, and not follow what the current trend is! LOL!
